-In the latest issue of Harper’s Bazaar, Oprah chats with Julia Roberts, who talks about her kids coming to the realization that she’s not your average mom (‘Are you more famous than Taylor Swift?’), grapples with her feelings about Instagram (“One weekend morning [my niece] Emma [Roberts] slept over, and we got up and were having tea and playing cards and having this beautiful morning, and then a couple of days later she posted a picture of us. And the number of people who felt absolutely required to talk about how terrible I looked in the picture — that I’m not aging well, that I look like a man, why would she even post a picture like this when I look that terrible! And I was amazed at how that made me feel”), and reveals how she celebrated her 50th with her husband (“I said, ‘How about this? We have five days away with zero contact with the outside world.’ That was 50, and it was so beautiful and wonderful. It was just the two of us, and there was a point where I thought, ‘Gosh, this is kind of weird.'”).

George Clooney presented an award to Emma Gonzalez at Variety’s Power of Women ceremony, saying “These are trying times, and trying times create inspirational leaders.” (Also, bless him for introducing himself as “Amal Clooney’s husband”.)

-There were lots of great speeches at the ceremony. Natalie Portman outlined what women in Hollywood can do: “Gossip well. Stop the rhetoric that a woman is crazy or difficult. If a man says to you that a woman is crazy or difficult, ask him: what bad thing did you do to her?” Tiffany Haddish advised to “be yourself and don’t try to be something that you’re not, because that’s when you become a bitter-ass bitch.”

Princess Eugenie got married today and her open-back wedding dress was lovely, but Cara Delevingne stole the show by showing up in a top hat and tails.

Neil Patrick Harris was on The View this week and had a very strange exchange with Whoopi Goldberg about sex. You ok, Doogie?

-This review of the soundtrack to A Star Is Born by someone who hasn’t seen the movie yet made me laugh out loud repeatedly. There were so many good bits, but this might be my fave: “This track was when I fully realized that, to borrow parlance from Vulture associate editor and top-five favorite Twitter user Hunter Harris, I wanted Bradley Cooper to [redacted] me by the [redacted] and [redacted] my [redacted] until we [redacted] at the same time because it seems like that would be possible with him.”

Ryan Adams has apologized for those butthurt tweets about Mandy Moore. “I apologize for my remarks. I was trying to be funny. But I have and will always choose to remember the amazing moments.”

-This is an interesting look at exactly how many men’s lives have been “ruined” since #MeToo started a year ago this week. (Spoiler alert: not many.)

Hugh Jackman‘s tweets about turning 50 are predictably charming.

Shiri Appleby is out here reuniting with all her old costars. Last week it was her Life Unexpected crew, this week Roswell.

-Marvel has fired Chuck Wendig and I don’t really know a lot about the comics world but my Twitter feed is NOT HAVING IT.

-Is new show FBI seriously on its third showrunner already? It’s only aired three episodes!

-Terrible: a crewmember on Sony’s Mr. Rogers pic died after a fall on set.

-This Johnny Depp press tour continues to be horrible. He’s not going to have any axes left to grind after this…

Chris Hemsworth talks about being uneasy with his wealth in the new issue of GQ: “I feel gross about it. I remember saving up for a surfboard when I was younger. The surfboard was 600 bucks and I saved up for a whole year with Dad’s help. I didn’t even want to surf on it for fear of damaging it. It taught me so many lessons about appreciation and working hard for something. When I think about my kids, I don’t want them to miss that joy. Elsa and I talk a lot about how we instill that same appreciation and respect for things.”

Usher dropped a surprise album this morning.

Jaboukie Young-White‘s debut on The Daily Show was very, very good.

-I’m bummed that All American tanked in the ratings. On the plus side, it’s on the CW and they don’t seem to care about pesky little details like that…

-Here’s the first Aladdin teaser. I was hoping for a glimpse of Will Smith as the genie, but at least we get confirmation that Mena Massoud‘s Aladdin is hot.

Samuel L. Jackson, Bruce Willis and James McAvoy complete M. Night Shyamalan‘s trilogy more than 18 years in the making in the new Glass trailer.

Taraji P. Henson and Sam Rockwell go head-to-head in the trailer for The Best of Enemies, which depicts the real-life feud and subsequent friendship between civil rights activist Ann Atwater and former Ku Klux Klan leader C.P. Ellis.

Kanye West Goes to Washington

Kanye West and Trump are both so outrageous that it’s hard to be surprised by anything they do anymore. But their meeting today at the White House was bonkers. What even is this video? Can we all agree that Kanye is just all about empty provocation these days and probably doesn’t even believe what he’s saying? I mean, should we even care about what anyone whose iPhone password is just a serious of zeroes really thinks?

-Now Kid Rock is at the White House. This day just keeps getting better and better…

-Wait, does People’s new Lady Gaga cover story not actually include a new interview with Lady Gaga?

-I am very much appreciating Steve Carell’s transition into a silver fox.

Selena Gomez is seeking treatment after an emotional breakdown following a couple of hospital stays stemming from kidney transplant complications.

Amandla Stenberg says Jennifer Lawrence taught her how to “pee in the woods” when they were shooting The Hunger Games. Is that…something you have to be taught?

Scarlett Johansson has reportedly landed a $15 million payday for a Black Widow movie.

-I’m glad I’m not the only one who thinks Meredith Grey deserves better than Ted from How I Met Your Mother. I haven’t watched Grey’s Anatomy for years and still this angers me!

Ryan Adams is butthurt by Mandy Moore‘s comments about their marriage.

-I watched the second episode of A Million Little things and damn, that show is bad. As this thread points out, it’s gruesome and gross.

-I was working from home today so I caught all of Dakota Johnson‘s segment on Ellen. I can’t tell if there’s just not a lot of there there, or if she just has an incredibly dry sense of humour but…oof. The only part that was halfway amusing was when Ellen made fun of her for not inviting her to her birthday party, and she responded by making fun of Ellen for asking about the pregnancy rumours.

-I’m already won over by the premise of Rebel Wilson‘s new movie: she’s trapped in a romcom and wooed by Chris Hemsworth.

-About this photo of Emily Bett Rickards: 1) I love her character’s new look. Witness protection, I’m guessing? 2) I love even more that she appears to have no idea when her show actually airs. Arrow doesn’t come back until Monday.

Julia Roberts tries to help Lucas Hedges escape his drug-dealing past in the trailer for Ben Is Back. The film festival buzz about this one is that the first half is an emotional family journey, and then it takes a weird turn.

Is Channing Tatum Dating Jessie J?

Channing Tatum is reportedly dating British singer Jessie J. I don’t hate this.

-Her new HBO may be getting savaged by critics, but Jennifer Garner is dating, doing great, and generally living her best life. So there.

-Meanwhile, Ben Affleck is reportedly single again.

Justin Theroux isn’t really a fave of mine, but he becomes 3000% more charming when he’s being interviewed while holding his dog.

-I will never not be fascinated by the tortured paththe new remake of A Star Is Born took to get to the big screen. Before Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga came on board, it was originally meant to be directed by Clint Eastwood and star Beyonce, and the leading men attached at some point included Tom Cruise, Johnny Depp, Russell Crowe, Leonardo DiCaprio and Will Smith.

Samira Wiley says she ‘cried a lot’ after an OITNB costar accidentally outed herin an interview

-The final season of Crazy Ex-Girlfriend debuts on Friday, and the reviews are even more glowing than previous seasons.  “At times suggesting an unholy fusion of an anything-goes musical telenovela like Glee or Cop Rock and an anti-hero drama built around a charismatic screw-up, the series is mesmerizing in part because it continues to exist and try new things despite being out there all by its lonesome.”

-Speaking of CW shows, All American premieres tonight and the reviews seem to indicate it’s the best new showon broadcast TV. I keep hearing it’s like a cross between Friday Night Lights and The OC, so I’m def checking it out.

Amandla Stenberg penned an essay about her sexual assault for Teen Vogue: “What started as a consensual experience had turned forceful.”

-In a surprise standup gig, Aziz Anzari suggested “wokeness” can go too far. This tweet perfectly sums it up: “Building an entire career on being ‘The Woke Guy’ and then pivoting to ‘Our Culture Is Too Woke’ once it comes for you is honestly kind of incredible.”

-The American Music Awards red carpet was kind of meh, but I dug that the night’s big winner Taylor Swift literally looked like a disco ball.

-Oof. From Alec Baldwin‘s new THR cover story: “I don’t know how to say this and I don’t want to get it wrong either, because everything is a minefield of bombs going off, but” — and here it comes — “ever since I played Trump, black people love me. They love me. Everywhere I go, black people go crazy. I think it’s because they’re most afraid of Trump. I’m not going to paint every African-American person with the same brush, but a significant number of them are sitting there going, ‘This is going to be bad for black folks.'”

-There are new episodes of Emma Approved, and they feature characters from The Lizzie Bennet Diaries, which makes me very happy.

-This entire interview with Maggie Gyllenhaal is  wonderful, but I especially like how she handled questions about allegations against  Deuce costar James Franco.

-Wait, instead of bringing Scott Speedman back to play Meredith’s love interest, Grey’s Anatomy went with Josh Radnor? Oh dear.

Jessica Biel is the latest actress to sign onto a TV show from Facebook. I don’t get it. Does anyone even watch Facebook’s shows? I caught the first episode of the Elisabeth Olsen one and even though I liked it, I never bothered coming back.

Sophie Turner says the Game of Thrones cast and crew went to great lengths to avoid spoiler leaks for the last season. All the actors’ names were changed on the scripts and call sheets, they shot fake scenes, they got into costume when they knew the paparazzi were around but didn’t actually film anything, and they employed “drone killers” to deactivate any nearby drones.

-Turner also said she’s going to miss the sleepovers she had with Maisie Williamswhen they were filming. “We just used to sit there and eat and watch stupid videos and smoke weed…I don’t know if my publicist will kill me for saying this. We’d get high and then we’d sit in the bath together and we’d rub makeup brushes on our faces. It’s fun.”

This interviewwith Nick Offerman and Megan Mullally is strange and wonderful.

-I agree so much with this piece on why film directors don’t necessarily make good TV creators. As stylish and cinematic as Maniac is, I watched four episodes and I just. didn’t. care.

This articleabout the trailer for John Travolta‘s speedboat movie is so much more entertaining than the trailer itself.

-I’m into this trailer for Bravo’s new limited series Dirty John, which stars Eric Bana and Connie Britton.
