Lupita Nyong’o Talks About Fame, Family

lupita nyong'o

Lupita Nyong’o looks lovely on the new cover of Lucky, where she talks about how being famous makes it really awkward when using the bathroom at Starbucks.

-God bless Shirley Manson for ripping Kanye West a new one in an open letter. There’s a reason I dressed like her all throughout high school.

-Everyone just needs to lay off Uma Thurman, mmm-kay? Kay.

-Better Call Saul premiered with the best cable ratings ever, which doesn’t really surprise me. It’s second episode dropped 50% but it was still the top cable show of the night, which actually does surprise me. I liked it but it’s so….damn….slow….

-Just when you thought the Bobbi Brown story couldn’t get more tragic, she’s reportedly going to be taken off life support on the third anniversary of her mother’s death.

Jamie Dornan and Jimmy Fallon read excerpts from Fifty Shades of Grey in goofy accents, which almost made it tolerable. Almost.

-Meanwhile, the first reviews of Fifty Shades are in. The Hollywood Reporter was surprisingly positive, calling Dakota Johnson “captivating” and praising Dornan’s performance, which “quickly grows fascinating in its containment.” Variety calls it “well cast.”  The AP, on the other hand, says “There have been perfume commercials with more depth and story arc.”

Miley Cyrus got in on the Fifty Shades hysteria by entering her light bondage film in the NYC Porn Film Fest.

-Shameless’s Ian will play the Joker on Gotham and oh god do I have to start watching that crap again?

-A new Orphan Black teaser, y’all!!

-I had to get my coworkers to explain why it’s a big deal for Marvel to be including Spider Man in their movies now. Whatever. I just don’t want to see Peter Parker bitten by that damn spider again.

-Vanity Fair got a bunch of celebrities to talk about their love of Serial. Ewan McGregor and Brie Larson‘s enthusiasm is adorable!

Stephen Amell reached out to a family who lost their baby and man, did this room just get really dusty and filled with people chopping onions?

-Is Dexter’s Jennifer Carpenter pregnant and engaged?

Anna Kendrick will be part of a “special performance” at the Oscars.  Yes, please!

-Speaking of Anna, the new Pitch Perfect 2 trailer is all kinds of perfection!

Did Brangelina Adopt Again?

brangelina wedding

-There is a sketchy report that Brangelina might be adopting another kid, this one a two-year-old boy from Syria.

-In other sketchy Brangelina reports, Marvel is apparently very keen to get Angelina Jolie as the director for their first female-led movie, Captain Marvel. I like that idea, but I liked it way more before I read that Selma’s Ava Duvernay is also open to doing a superhero film.

-Are Jennifer Lawrence and Chris Pratt going to star in a movie together? The box office may spontaneously combust.

-Variety has the scoop behind Rosie O’Donnell‘s dramatic exit from The View.

-The idea that Birdman and Boyhood are now in a dead heat for the Oscars frontrunner is kind of blowing my mind.

-Not one, but two sequels to Fifty Shades have already been greenlit. Lord help us.

-With Adam Pally, Eliza Coupe and Damon Wayans Jr. all suddenly jobless, is a Happy Endings reunion possible?

-Here’s our first look at Showtime’s Happyish, which was originally meant to star Philip Seymour Hoffman.

Bruce Jenner has denied that he was texting before that fatal crash that left a woman dead this weekend.

-Speaking of celebrities in terrible accidents, Jesse Tyler Ferguson‘s husband won’t be charged in a deadly crash that killed Kirstie Alley‘s future son-in-law.

-Famous romance novelists dissecting the latest plot twists on Arrow? I’m so in.

-The new trailer for A&E’s The Returned confirms my suspicions that it’s a shot-for-shot remake of the French series. Because America!

-If Diplo was serious about ending his feud with his Taylor Swift, why did he post such an unflattering photo?

-Last night at the Grammys, Kanye West jokingly rushed the stage when Beck beat Beyonce (or maybe he wasn’t joking at all, given his post-show rant) — but Beck actually agreed with him that Bey should have won.

-Also if, like me, you switched over to The Walking Dead halfway through the Grammys (or should I say Grammyzzzzzz, amirite?), here’s Kristen Wiig and Maddie Ziegler performing “Chandelier,” introduced by Shia LaBeouf.

-This Grammy photo of Sam Smith and Rihanna is freaking me the eff out. Why does she look so tiny and childish? Is it the dress? His big head? WHAT’S HAPPENING?

-I skipped the Grammy’s pre-show, but jesus is this really what Guiliana Rancic looked like? Tell me this is some photoshopped wizardry?

-Big news for Serial fans: Adnan has been granted an appeal. Sarah Koenig explains how the MD Court of Special Appeals works here.

-And here it is: the first trailer for the NWA biopic Straight Outta Compton.

-The trailer for Netflix’s new Bloodlines series has been released and it features a Kyle Chandler voiceover so I am ALL IN. Goddamit, I miss Coach.

Jennifer Lawrence Poses Nude with a Snake

Jennifer Lawrence was photograph by Patrick Demarchelier for Vanity Fair.

-Here’s the story behind Jennifer Lawrence’s slithery photo shoot for Vanity Fair. (TL; DR: she was cool with it until the snake got near her neck.)

-Speaking of JLaw, Lionsgate wants to make more money Hunger Games movies — even though they’ve run out of source material.

-InStyle and Kerry Washington weighed in on her ‘lightened’ cover controversy.  “While we did not digitally lighten Kerry’s skin tone, our cover lighting has likely contributed to this concern,” said InStyle.

Chris Pratt and Chris Evans made good on their Super Bowl bet and it was goddamn adorable.

-I keep repressing the news that NBC is rebooting Heroes, but the new trailers are making it harder to ignore.

-Sweet! Tegan and Sara will be performing at the Oscars with The Lonely Island.

-I approve of what passes for breakfast at Reese Witherspoon‘s house.

-Not surprising: Busy Phillips didn’t talk to Katie Holmes the whole time she was married to Tom Cruise — though not for lack of trying.

-The Breaking Bad prequel Better Call Saul debuts this weekend, and the reviews are mostly positive.

-Meanwhile. Walt Jr. from Breaking Bad is going to be a DJ. That’s all.

-Speaking of TV, the show that replaced Parenthood got worse ratings than Parenthood. Dammit, NBC!

Justin Bieber and Ellen hid in a bathroom to scare fans, and it was actually kinda cute.

-Vanity Fair does a deep dive into the Sony hack.

-Speaking of deep dives, I love this EW feature on how Fifty Shades of Grey is an artifact of female sexuality and expression. I hate that book, but I hate the reductive term “mommy porn” even more.

Will Smith and Jimmy Fallon rapped “It Takes Two” this week, and it was wonderful.

-Actress Heather Matarazzo (who will always be Lilly from The Princess Diaries to me) wrote a great blog post called “What the F*ck is F*ckable?”

Gwyneth Paltrow shared her vacation photo album — which conveniently doubles as ad an for the resort.

-Here’s the trailer for Kumiko, the Treasure Hunter, which I saw an advanced screening of and LOVED. It’s about a lonely office worker in Tokyo who watches Fargo and goes to the US to find the treasure that’s buried in the movie.
