RIP, Prince

-2016 has been brutal when it comes to celebrity deaths, but Prince? Man, this one hurts. That man was the goat.

-Vulture has compiled 24 outrageous Prince stories. My absolute favourite remains this (very long, but very funny) one by Kevin Smith, who was once hired to shoot a documentary for him.

-Meanwhile, The Onion’s headline is perfect.

-Also, how did I not know until now that Maya Rudolph has a Prince cover band called Princess?

-Um, that’s not how hashtags work, Sharon Stone.

-Esquire always does right by George Clooney. They tend to get him to open up in a way other publications don’t. (Remember when he shit-talked Leonardo DiCaprio’s basketball skills?) His latest cover story doesn’t disappoint.

–Julianna Margulies says we’ll either ‘love or hate’ the Good Wife’s series finale. Ruh roh.

-Arrested Development’s Maria Bamford is starring in a new Netflix show , and it looks fantastic. (The trailer hooked me as soon as she and Ana Gasteyer started doing my go-to drunk move: laser tits.)

-I’m not sue who this comedian is who recreated a bunch of celebrity Instagram poses, but I think I love her.

-The Bones lawsuit is offering a good glimpse of how a hit show loses money. Despite pulling in over a half a billion dollars in their first seven seasons, however, Bones somehow ended up over $43 million in the red.

-I love The Hollywood Reporter’s tips for getting a divorce in Hollywood: “plan for your future ex’s reality show.”

-Time’s 100 Most Influential People articles are great, mostly because they’re written by other stars. Rita Moreno writes that Gina Rodriguez is “a young woman who knows her true north,” while J.J. Abrams says Lin-Manuel Miranda‘s “wit would be intimidating if not for his natural and infectious charm.”

–Michael Keaton plays the founder of McDonalds in the new trailer for The Founder.

–Jesse Eisenberg and Kristen Stewart see the sights in the new trailer for Woody Allen‘s Café Society trailer.

-I’m intrigued by the new Jason Bourne trailer (mostly because I don’t think I could have sat through another movie of him need to re-learn about Treadstone all over again). Also, Julia Stiles is back and seems to have a bigger role! That makes me weirdly happy.

Jennifer Aniston Is the World’s Most Beautiful Person

-People just bestowed the World’s Most Beautiful 2016 title on…Jennifer Aniston? Uh, fine, I guess that’s one way to promote her terrible-looking movie. Sidenote: I wonder if the ‘girl next door’ thing bugs her? She’s 47; we as a society need to collectively let that go.

-A better cover story is Julia Louis-Dreyfus on THR, in which she drops gems like “I’m playing a powerful woman who’s middle-aged and who, at least I think, is still pretty f*ckable.”

-The Live with Kelly and Michael struggle is real. Kelly Ripa is apparently “livid” after finding out that Michael Strahan was leaving the same way as everyone else, and she reportedly won’t return to the show until after he leaves. Meanwhile, he thanked her at the end of today’s show (for which she was a no-show). #TeamKelly

–Katherine Heigl is still trying to beg our forgiveness for her Grey’s Anatomy antics. Frankly, I’d rather an apology for that terrible movie where she played a cat lady who fell in love with Gerard Butler. But that’s just me.

-This whole conversation between JJ Abrams and Chris Rock is worth a read, but I’d love to know who JJ is talking about when he mentions an actress who worked on Alias who “was so, famously so, very rude to people and literally made a couple of people on the crew cry.”

-Say what you will about Gwyneth Paltrow, but at least she knows how to poke fun at her image. I laughed a lot at that video.

–Tina Fey became an Emmy voter just so she could vote for The People v. O.J. Simpson. Smart.

–Idris Elba is coming back to my TV screen and all is right with the world again.

-Speaking of TV surprises, how did I not know Olivia Coleman stars in AMC’s The Night Manager?! Why is all the promotion about Hugh Laurie instead of her? Her “with respect sir, move away from me now or I will piss in a cup and throw it at you!” remains my favourite TV insult of all time.

–Alan Ball says Six Feet Under’s finale still makes him cry. Same.

–Zack Synder may be a nutbar, but sometimes I think he just likes to f*ck with comic fanboys — and as someone who gets a glimpse into their minds whenever I tweet about a superhero show, I kind of approve.

–Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale have reached a divorce settlement so she is now totally free to gush widely about Blake Shelton (not that anything was stopping her…)

-There’s a Three’s Company movie in the works because there are no new ideas anywhere.

-Wowza. Fresh Off The Boat’s Constance Wu calls Scarlett Johansson’s Ghost in the Shell casting the “practice of blackface.”

-I like this video of TV stars warning against binge-watching. Don’t be a Jerry.

-This is an insanely well-researched recap of every 30 Rock reference in the new season of Kimmy Schmidt.

–Tony Hale explains how Liza Minnelli requests a Diet Coke — and it is glorious.

–James Franco celebrated his 38th birthday at Disneyland dressed as David Bowie because of course he did.

–Stephen Amell arranged for the Stanley Cup to visit the Arrow set because he’s a rainbow-wrapped unicorn.

–Sansa and Theon brave harsh conditions in this new Game of Thrones clip.

-Meanwhile, the guys who play Theon and Ramsey proved they’re friends in real life — by smooching. Um, I’m going to need more proof, guys. Try it again, but this time take your shirts off.

–Denzel Washington‘s Magnificent Seven trailer looks fun AF.

-Look, I still think Emily Blunt needs to gain about 30 lbs to play Rachel, but the first trailer for The Girl On the Train is still pretty damn good.

 

Castle’s Nathan Fillion Breaks Silence on Stana Katic’s Exit

-Why does it feel like a network show is imploding every week these days? Today, it’s Castle’s turn. I don’t watch the show but even I’d heard rumblings about the long-rumoured onset tensions. Now the lead actress has been let go (add her to the ever-growing fired actress pile!) and though the official explanation is “financial reasons,” even the trades are mentioning her reported troubles with Nathan Fillion (who didn’t really help matters with his delayed, impersonal statement about it — especially compared with her other coworkers’ responses.)

-Meanwhile, Us Weekly says things got so bad between Fillion and Stana Katic last season that the network made them go to “couples counseling.” It clearly didn’t work.

–Jared Leto knew better to pull any of his stupid Joker bullshit on Viola Davis during the Suicide Squad shoot.

-Wayment — are we actually supposed to *feel bad* for Chris Brown when watching this new documentary?! Hard pass.

–Prince Harry and Prince William visited the Star Wars 8 set and it was ADORABLE!

-Meanwhile, Force Awakens favourites  Oscar Isaac and BB-8 reunited for charity. Also adorbs.

–Joss Whedon is very sorry for making everyone think he hated the last Avengers movie. (He still hasn’t apologized for his bitch-flounce off Twitter, tho.)

-Allow Taylor Swift to take you on a tour of her Beverly Hills home while talking about cats, cakes, terrible cocktails (vodka Diet Coke? Jesus.) during Vogue’s latest 73 Questions video.

–Stephen and Robbie Amell’s crowdfunding movie just passed the million-dollar mark. That makes me feel better about not contributing yet. I mean, I will eventually because I’m not a monster but still…

–Aisha Tyler talks about dealing with sexism and getting good advice from Jennifer Aniston in this new article about her crowdfunding efforts to direct. She also revealed on The Talk that she separated from her husband last year but is trying to shelter him from any public fallout because she’s a wonderful human being.

-Speaking of wonderful human beings, Tracy Morgan canceled a comedy show in Mississippi over their anti-LGBTQ law — and he did a special comedy show for the staff of the hospital that saved his life.

-“I’m a little gay & there’s a gay James,” says James Franco. Um, ok.

-Dafuq is going on with Elizabeth Banks‘ Power Rangers costume? The whole point of this movie is nostalgia so of course, just go ahead and change everything.

-I love that Emily Nussbaum just won Pulitzer for TV criticism. I’ve been reading her since she first posted an awesome defense of Sex and the City and I saw her moderate Mindy Kaling’s panel at the Vulture fest. She’s excellent.

-Holy crap, guys. NBC is so rough right now that The Mysteries of Laura looks like it will make it to a third season. How?!

–Emilia Clarke recruited the Broad City girls in her mission to “free the P” on Game of Thrones.

–Jennifer Garner‘s 44th birthday party included a marching band. I like her style!

–Stephen Colbert mocked Johnny Deep and Amber Heard‘s strange apology with his own apology to Australia.
