This Is Us's Chrissy Metz Opens Up About Her Painful Past

Chrissy Metz people cover parenthood

-In her new People cover, Chrissy Metz talks about her terrible stepfather, who hit her and mocked her weight.

Cardi B’s Cosmo cover interview addresses the Me Too movement in hip hop. “A lot of video vixens have spoke about this and nobody gives a f-ck…I bet if one of these women stands up and talks about it, people are going to say, ‘So what? You’re a ho. It don’t matter.'” She also reveals why she keeps talking about her stripper past: “People say, ‘Why do you always got to say that you used to be a stripper? We get it.’ Because y’all don’t respect me because of it, and y’all going to respect these strippers from now on.”

-I always love the power stylist issueof THR. I especially found the roundtablefascinating, in which they talk about the challenge of dressing their clients in black for Time’s Up, and how they usually lose money during awards season.

-Meanwhile, Drew Barrymore is endorsing Crocs and it kinda works?

-I gave up on The Americans last year because it was starting to feel like a slog, but I’ll probably tune into the final season. This absolutely delightful interview with Keri Russell and Matthew Rhyshelps. (I love the part when the interviewer says he doesn’t want to hear spoilers. “Well, we’re going to tell you!” Russell shouts. “Henry dies!” Rhys shouts, a little louder.)

-Oooh boy. A writer on The Vampire Diaries shared her horrifying storyof being harassed by a director on the set. For some reason, a lot of people on my Twitter TL don’t seem to like that show’s creator, but I love the fact that as soon as she heard what happened she said “It is not your job to take abuse or accept unacceptable behavior because you’re young and a woman. That is not your job.” Also, according to this tweet, the guy has gone on to direct Arrow, Gotham, and Lethal Weapon.

-This Mads Mikkelsen quote about starring in a Beyonce video is perfection. I saw him two years ago at TIFF and though I hated his movie, the Q&A with him afterwards totally made up for it.

-Why is it news that Jennifer Aniston and Justin Theroux have barely spoken since they split? That’s what “split” means.

Millie Bobby Brown and Gaten Matarazzotweeted their support after a kid threw a Stranger Things-themed birthday party and no one showed up.

This trailer for a short film starring Stephen Amell looks like a Canadian version The Florida Project (and I mean that in a good way).

Gillian Anderson being unable to figure out how her watergun works to get back at David Duchovny is the cutest thing ever.

-This is a good reviewof Jack White‘s new album, which is reportedly not good.

-Netflix is adapting the YA novel To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before, which I adored.

Tessa Thompson makes a cameo as a personal trainer in Portlandia’s series finale.

-Also, she’s super into the Twitter feed that compares her to goats.

-Speaking of endings, I don’t watch Once Upon a Time, but it’s sweet that original stars Jennifer Morrison, Ginnifer Goodwin, Josh Dallas and Emilie DeRavin all agreed to return for the series finale.

Mila Kunis and Kate McKinnon make terrible accidental secret agents in The Spy Who Dumped Metrailer.

Amy Poehler's Directorial Debut Features Everyone You Love

-I can’t even tell what Amy Poehler‘s directorial debut is about from this clip, but I’m so, so, so in! (According to THR, it follows a group of girlfriends who go to Napa to celebrate a 50th birthday.) But look at that cast!

Bill Hader revealed that John Mulaney whispered “My girlfriend works at Yoshinoya Beef Bowl” during this weekend’s Stefon skit, which is why he broke so hard. I once read an oral history of SNL and Hader said that the reason he always breaks during the Stefon segments is because Mulaney adds last-minute jokes to the cue cards, and Hader is reading them for the first time on air.

-The Crown producers have apologized for dragging Claire Foy and Matt Smith into the salary disparity mess.

Sean Penn is writing a novel that will reportedly incorporate the Me Too movement. So I guess we’re all just forgetting about the allegations that he tied Madonna to a chair and beat her with a bat, then?

Demi Lovato opened up to Dr. Phil about how she contemplated suicide when she was only 7 years old.

John Oliver’s bunny book is handily outselling the Pence bunny book and it makes me SO HAPPY. I bought a copy for my niece and it’s on backorder.

Ellen DeGeneres interviewed Scott Moir and Tessa Virtue and tried to get them to admit they’re dating. It didn’t work.

Idris Elba has created a sitcom about growing up in 1980s Britain. I’m so very curious to see how this turned out. I mean, I love the man (so very, very much) but “funny” is not a word I’d typically associate with him.

Jenna Dewan Tatum and the hot guy from Looking in a new TV show together? Yes, please!

-72-year-old rocker Don McLean is dating a 24-year-old, which is not gross at all.

-Oh goodie. Kevin Federline is back in the news. Well, we had a good decade of peace.

-Are Stars retiring from touring? I don’t want to believe it.

Bill Murray took a nap in the middle of the SXSW panel for Isle of Dogs.  Murray’s gonna Murray…

-It’s crazy that the CW will probably renew Dynasty, even though it’s pulling in the most dismal ratings (0.1 in the demo)! But it makes lots of money internationally, so that’s what matters now.

-Why are people always surprised with faith-based movies do well? Every. Single. Time.

-Speaking of the movie biz, this is a bullshit article. It’s been clear that tent pole blockbusters aren’t going to save the industry for ages now. Blaming it on Black Panther sucks.

-I really liked this article on how romance novels are some of the most progressive and political works of fiction out there these days. I’m doing a thing this year where I’m trying to read books with non-white or non-cis leads, and that’s always the easiest genre to find stuff.

-The Jeremy Renner, Jon Hamm and Ed Helms intro to the new Tag trailer is funnier than the trailer itself. I still can’t believe this movie is actually happening, let alone that it also stars Jake Johnson, Rashida Jones, Isla Fisher, Leslie Bibb, and Hannibal Buress.

SATC’s Cynthia Nixon Is Running for Governor of New York

-Sex and the City star Cynthia Nixon just threw her hat in the ring for the New York governor race. Unlike other celebrity political candidates, she actually has a pretty impressive history of public schooling advocacy.

-Her SATC costar Kristen Davis is already backing her.

-He’s only been on it for three months, but nobody in Hollywood does Instagram better than Will Smith. Nobody.

-Everyone was hating on Arcade Fire’s Twitter performance on SNL, but I kind of loved it? In any case, the second song was interrupted by a commercial, so the show released the full performance online.

-Speaking of this weekend’s SNL, did anyone notice that Jon Hamm jumped onto the stage during the exit hugs?

Lin-Manuel Miranda and Ben Platt joined forces to record “Found Tonight,” with proceeds going to March For Our Lives. No, YOU’RE crying!

Vivica A. Fox is talking about her sex life with ex-boyfriend 50 Cent and he’s not very happy about it. I’m not sure why; besides calling it “PG-13” she was mostly complimentary.

Renée Zellweger is playing Judy Garland and the resemblance is kind of amazing.

-In the early days of their relationship when they were trying to keep things quiet, Prince Harry would visit Meghan Markle in Toronto and they stayed at Ben Mulroney’s house.

-Sweet. If Legends of Tomorrow is renewed (and it very likely will be), Matt Ryan will join the cast as Constantine. The trajectory of that character/actor is unheard of. He started on an NBC show that was quickly cancelled, the CW somehow convinced NBC to lend him to them for one episode of Arrow, and now he’s a regular on that network.

-Oh god. Steven Spielberg really is planning to go ahead with Indiana Jones 5.

-I’m not sure I get this petition to ask Matt Smith to donate a portion of his salary from The Crown to the Times Up movement. I’d rather the petition ask the producers to donate the difference between his pay and Claire Foy‘s. Smith is not like Mark Walhberg, who recognized a shitty situation and held the producers hostage until they paid up.

-The young leads of Stranger Things have reportedly negotiated hefty raises, moving from $30,000 per episode now up to $250,000 an episode, and the adults are up to $350,000 an episode, with Millie Bobby Brown somewhere in the middle. Even the kids who play Steve, Jonathan and Nancy got bumped up to $150,000 per ep.

-I really liked this article questioning whether any show from the golden age will actually endure. Drowning in new shows means that very few people have time for rewatches these days.  “If medium and message truly are synchronous, then maybe television is simply something that only really works in the moment.”

Melissa McCarthy plays a down-on-her-luck writer who starts faking letters from famous novelists in the Can You Ever Forgive Me? trailer.
