Well this is the saddest news ever: Glee star Cory Monteith was found dead in a Vancouver hotel room this weekend. The rumours about his troubles were really, really terrible (to the point that one gossip columnist I know who has seen and heard A LOT over the years called it the worst celebrity story she’d ever encountered). But he was on the upswing. He had successfully completed voluntary rehab, Lea Michele stood by him, and things seemed to be getting better. Rumour has it he and Lea were planning to wed soon. If only…
Last night the Vancouver Police announced they would be having a press conference at 10:30 about “a Hollywood actor found dead today.” Almost immediately, word hit Twitter that it was Monteith. When he failed to show up at check out time, hotel staff looked in on him and discovered his body. He had been deceased for several hours and police don’t suspect foul play, but they wouldn’t discuss what they found in his room, saying, “We only notified family members about an hour ago, and so we haven’t been able to have those conversations with them. What we can say is that the cause of death wasn’t immediately apparent.”
“There were others with Mr. Monteith in his room earlier last night, but video and fob key entries show him returning to his room by himself in the early morning hours and we believe he was alone when he died,” Vancouver Police’s Acting Chief Doug LePard said.
His Glee cast members and other celebrities quickly took to Twitter to express their shock.

Meanwhile, Matthew Morrison, who plays Mr. Shue, dedicated his Broadway performance to Monteith. Gwyneth Paltrow released a statement, saying “Cory was a sweet and talented man. My heart breaks for Lea and the entire Glee family.”
