Florence Pugh Defends Relationship with Zach Braff

–Florence Pugh is fighting back after she posted a birthday message for Zach Braff and people immediately commented on their age differene: “I do not need you to tell me who I should or should not love and I would never in my life — ever ever — tell anyone who they can or cannot love. It is not your place, and really it has nothing to do with you.”

–Lady Gaga covers InStyle and says she’s “very excited” to start a family: “I look forward to being a mom. Isn’t it incredible what we can do? We can hold a human inside and grow it. Then it comes out, and it’s our job to keep it alive. It’s so funny — everyone works out of my house every day. When they come in, I always say, ‘Welcome to the Womb!'”

–Cardi B is partnering with Fashion Nova to give away $1,000 every hour until May 20.

-Also, Halsey donated 100,000 face masks to four California hospitals.

–George and Amal Clooney donated more than $1 million to coronavirus relief efforts.

–Jimmy Fallon, Will Ferrell and Kristen Wiig star in a quarantine soap opera skit titled The Longest Days of Our Lives.

–Jake Gyllenhaal says Heath Ledger refused to do the opening at the 2007 Academy Awards because producers wanted to stick in a homophobic joke about Brokeback Mountain. “I was sort of at the time, ‘Oh, okay… whatever.’ I’m always like, ‘It’s all in good fun.’ And Heath said, ‘It’s not a joke to me – I don’t want to make any jokes about it.’ That’s the thing I loved about Heath. He would never joke. Someone wanted to make a joke about the story or whatever, he was like, ‘No. This is about love. Like, that’s it, man. Like, no.’ ”

–Justin Timberlake did Hot Ones. I couldn’t make it through the whole interview because there’s no way I can suffer through a half hour of JT, but good for him for giving Nardwuar a shout out.

-SNL is returning with a new, remotely produced episode this Saturday.

–Nicole Richie was on Naomi Campbell’s daily “talk show” and she reminisced about sticking her hand up a cow’s butt during an episode of The Simple Life: “The pressure of going inside the cow? That feeling will never leave my body.”

-Exes Demi Moore and Bruce Willis are taking conscious uncoupling to the next level: they’re self-isolating together with their kids.

-There’s a new Gourmet Makes! Claire tries to recreate Cadbury creme eggs.

–Jimmy Fallon gets introspective in a new Vulture interview and says it will be a long, long, long time before The Tonight Show could be the same again. And it may never be.

–Wills and Kate hired the Sussexs’ former Instagram manager.

–The Strokes are dropping a new album tomorrow and early reviews are glowing.

-The New Yorker profiled Fran Lebowitz on how she’s been handling social distancing and every quote is a gem. My favourite: “I hate to cook. I find it incredibly tedious. Last night, I was peeling a cucumber and I was infuriated. Like, why am I peeling this cucumber? Why am I not in a restaurant, where they know how to peel a cucumber, and where I’m not doing it?” My other favourite: “Until this happened I was one of the few people still shaking hands, because people were hugging….I was so shocked when hugging started. I thought, Are you out of your mind? I would put my hand out and people would go in for a hug. This is when someone’s introducing you to someone. I think it would be great if hugging stopped. Hugging apparently is less virus-producing than shaking hands, but hugging is its own kind of contagion.” I feel seen.

–Joaquin Phoenix‘s GQ cover story is just a mashup of a bunch of old interviews. I know everyone’s social distancing but phoners are still a thing.

-Modern Family bowed out last night with its highest ratings in three years.

-I’ve downloaded Quibi but haven’t really watched anything yet. I have, however, listened to the Extra Hot Great podcast and this rant about Liam Hemsworth‘s new show, Most Dangerous Game.

-The trailer for Netflix’s The Half of It looks wonderful. A straight-A student who’s coming to terms with the fact she’s gay becomes best friends with a popular jock.

–Emma Watson talked to Sex and World Peace author Valerie Hudson in Teen Vogue, and the actress says she’s become fascinated by kink culture “because they are the best communicators ever. They know all about consent. They smash that stuff because they really have to get it — but we could all use those models; they’re actually really helpful models.”

-A photographer released a peek at a recent photo shoot he did with Jake Gyllenhaal. Bless him.

–Justin Timberlake and Anna Kendrick defended Billie Eilish during an appearance on Radio 1, when a caller said he didn’t understand her hype.

-Us Weekly claims that Ana de Armas is keeping her distance from Ben Affleck’s kids for now, as requested by Jennifer Garner.

–Judi Dench‘s grandson made some cute TikTok videos with her, in which he tries to tell her jokes and she keeps guessing the punchlines.

–Angelina Jolie is helping children learn more about the coronavirus crisis in a new BBC My World special.

-Schitt’s Creek star Emily Hampshire has launched a YouTube show featuring interviews with actors about how they’re coping with the crisis. The first episode featured Queer Eye’s Bobby Berk, actress Sophia Bush, Olympic medalist Adam Rippon and her Schitt’s co-star Annie Murphy.

–Tom Holland joined Justin Bieber‘s IG Live last night to talk about reality shows and how they’re self-isolating.

-Meanwhile, Sophie Turner says she’s handling social distancing well. “I’m an introvert, I’m a homebody. If I could stay at home all day I would, so this is great for me. I leave my house like once a day anyway to walk my dogs and then that’s it.

-The coronavirus is messing up the TV world in ways no one saw coming. Empire didn’t finish its final two episodes before production shut down, so it’s not getting a proper series finale. Meanwhile, the nearly 20 shows that shoot in Vancouver may need to start their next seasons late because production likely won’t be back in late June/early July like it usually is.

-The fact that Comic-Con organizers still seem to think it’s going to happen in July is wildly optimistic.

–Zach Braff and Donald Faison are doing a Scrubs podcast.

-I’m glad that Phoebe Waller-Bridge‘s new HBO show Run, starring Merritt Wever and Domhnall Gleeson, seems to be getting good reviews.

–Love Wedding Repeat is exactly the kind of fluffy content I need from Netflix right now!

-Now that Kumail Nanjiani has a superhero body, he’s putting it to good use in the pages of Men’s Health.  In the new issue’s photo spread, he recreates scenes from Top Gun, Wolverine, Die Hard and American Psycho.

–Britney Spears reportedly “doesn’t want to work” out of resentment for her father and the rules of her conservatorship. I don’t blame her; if she creates new music, he’ll profit from it and she’ll still be stuck getting a monthly allowance.

–Kate Beckinsale shared a terrible story about how Harvey Weinstein reacted days after she showed up to the Serendipity premiere (which took place shortly after 9/11), in a white suit. “He started screaming ‘you stupid fucking C*NT, you C*NT you ruined my premiere.’ I had no idea what he was talking about and started to shake. He said, ‘If I am throwing a red carpet you get in a tight dress, you shake your ass you shake your tits you do not go down it looking like a fucking lesbian you stupid fucking c*nt.’ I tried to say ‘Harvey, the city is on fire, people are still looking for their relatives none of us even felt the premiere was appropriate much less coming out dressed like it’s a bachelor party.’’ He said, ‘I don’t care – it’s my f–king premiere and if I want p*ssy on the red carpet that’s what I get.'”

-I’m not necessarily saying this was racist, but man Florence Pugh should have worded this differently.

–Justin Timberlake and SZA were on Ellen’s show and SZA was asked about her Rolling Stone cover and JT kept talking over her. Because of course he did.

-Now there’s photos of Ben Affleck and Ana de Arma kissing on a beach in Cuba so I guess we have to accept that this is happening. Aren’t we already going through enough, universe?!?

–Omid Scobie at Harper’s Bazaar offered a behind-the-scenes look at what went down on Prince Harry and Meghan Markle‘s last day in London, and it’s pretty heartbreaking.

-I haven’t caught up on the new season of Schitt’s Creek yet but I was spoiled on the latest relationship development, and this behind-the-scenes footage of them shooting that scene broke me.

-Meanwhile, CBC announced they’ll air a one-hour special after the series finale on April 7.

–Tom Hanks‘ sons Colin and Chet both shared updates on how their parents are doing following their Coronavirus diagnosis. Meanwhile, the staff at his hospital gave Hanks a Wilson volleyball to keep him company.

-Speaking of virus fallout, the Juno Awards, the Canadian Screen Awards and the Tribeca Film Festival have been postponed, production on Riverdale has shut down in Vancouver after a crew member came into contact with a patient, A Quiet Place 2 — which was scheduled to hit theatres next weekend — is delayed until further notice, Disney is postponing Mulan, and the release of Fast & Furious 9 was pushed back an entire year.

-Meanwhile, it feels wildly irresponsible of Kristen Bell to share this post. Maybe she was just trying to stop the panic but it implies older and/or immune-compromised people don’t matter. This thing is bad (maybe worse than we thought) and healthy people need to do their part to protect those who are vulnerable so our hospitals don’t get overloaded like in Italy.
