Brad Pitt Gets Deep in GQ

Brad Pitt GQ

-God lord, the new Brad Pitt interview in GQ brought me endless amounts of joy today. Reading it was like playing “faux-deep thoughts” bingo. Therapy talk? Check! A mention of his new matcha tea ritual? Check! A David Foster Wallace quote? Check!  Talk about his new understanding of R&B? Referring to his face as “this façade”? Check! A Churchill quote? Check!  The whole article is so beautiful I’m tempted to get it laminated…

Mark Hamill is the latest Star Wars star to prank some unsuspecting fans and their reactions were priceless.

-Yes, Stephen Colbert’s joke was really, really dumb — but the campaign to get him fired is even dumber.

-This new featurette on The Mummy actually makes it look…good?

-Congrats to Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Tasha McCauley, who are expecting their second child. I didn’t even know they had a first!

Chris Evans says it’s “beyond misplaced” to glibly criticize Jimmy Kimmel‘s healthcare monologue.  Listen to Captain America!

-In any case, the monologue already has incredible reach.

Sofia Vergara took to Instagram to slam Star magazine for “fake” report about a divorce from Joe Manganiello, saying “The editor of this mag is an idiot.”

-This is a great take on how Marvel is undercutting Wonder Woman with their lack of promotion.

Amanda Peet looks back on her biggest roles and it’s kind of amazing how much she’s done.  I kind of love that she’s still not ok with Bent being cancelled.

-The Flash’s big reveal on this week’s episode revealed the show’s biggest flaw: its own formula.

-I guess we shouldn’t be surprised that The Handmaid’s Tale is getting a second season, but the first season covers the whole book so what are they going to do?

-A new report says that unlike what we’d expect, Kate and William don’t have a lot of staff to help them out at home.

-The Dark Tower trailer is here and the reviews are mixed. I’m ok with it, but it definitely feels like it gives way, way too much away.

The Defenders trailer is getting a lot of love, mostly because it makes fun of Iron Fist a lot. This moment in particular is getting mocked a bunch. (I think it’s a special kind of actor who knows what to do in the background during a group fight scene when it’s not “their turn” — and then there’s this type.

Amber Heard Donates All Of Her Settlement to Charity

amber-heard-bruises-photos

-Holy crap. Amber Heard said she was going to donate her $7M divorce settlement to charity — but I didn’t think she meant all of it. But she donated ALL OF IT. Of course, Twitter was immediately overrun by idiots claiming it’s not that big of a deal because she’ll get it all back in taxes (except, yeah, that’s not how taxes work), or that she’s doing it to seem like a martyr. What? Whatever you think of her personality, their joint statement basically confirmed that she’s a survivor of domestic violence. That doesn’t change, whether or not she donates a dime, or passes your vague likability test. And if you ask me, the fact that she’s giving it all away makes her a goddamn boss.

-People I keep forgetting are pregnant, weekend edition: Olivia Wilde, Mila Kunis.

-People I keep forgetting are no longer pregnant, weekend edition: Emily Blunt.

Nina Dobrev and Julianna Hough showed off their bare butts on Instagram. I just don’t know how photos like this happen. Like, how much alcohol must first be consumed before everyone thinks this is a swell idea?

Frank Ocean continues to try everyone’s patience.

-The girl who plays Eleven on Stranger Things taught Winona Ryder how to use Snapchat.

-I’m always ready to call out sexism in Hollywood, but I agree with Kristen Bell here — it doesn’t really apply to Bad Moms (which, btw, was my surprise movie of the summer. Kathyrn Hahn does a monologue about uncircumcised penises that should win an Oscar).

-Fun fact: Jonah Hill was hospitalized for snorting too much fake coke while filming Wolf of Wall Street.

Zendaya may have been cast as Mary Jane Watson in Spider-Man: Homecoming and comic f**kboys went predictable crazy at the rumours. Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn wrote an excellent rebuttal on Facebook. “For me, if a character’s primary attribute – the thing that makes them iconic – is the color of their skin, or their hair color, frankly, that character is shallow and sucks. For me, what makes MJ MJ is her alpha female playfulness, and if the actress captures that, then she’ll work.” Church!

-Pretty much anything Roxanne Gay writes is an automatic must-read for me. Her thoughtful essay on Nate Parker and the limits of empathy doesn’t disappoint.

-The Lost Boys is being adapted as a TV series, and the fact that Rob Thomas of Veronica Mars/iZombie is behind it leaves me hopeful.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Shailene Woodley get flirty on a college campus in this new clip from Snowden. I’m not sure I’m going to be able to get over what he’s doing with his voice in this film.

-Here’s the trailer for Hands of Stone, starring Usher and Robert De Niro.

Gwyneth Paltrow Talks Family and 40s

gwyneth-paltrow-red-cover

-Maybe it’s because I’m getting closer and closer to turning 40, or maybe it’s just because she’s wearing me down, but I really responded to Gwyneth Paltrow‘s new interview in Redbook. (I mean, after I got past her description of GOOP’s new headquarters, which is a repurposed 1920s chicken coop because of course it is…)

Diane Kruger is bad-mouthing Peter O’Toole, even though (or maybe because?) he’s dead. “You know who wasn’t very pleasant, was Peter O’Toole. It kind of sucked. He’s dead, so I can say that.” Can you, though??

-Blackish’s Tracee Ellis Ross has the best Prince story yet.

Julianna Marguiles talked to the NYT about The Good Wife’s ending, saying there’s “no amount of money in the world” that would convince her to commit to another 22-episode series. She also refused to comment on Archie Panjabi, saying “It’s all silly gossip, and I don’t want to go there.”

-ABC proves they’re not complete idiots by signing both Viola Davis and Kerry Washington to overall deals to develop new shows.

-Vulture got Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt’s writers to walk them through season 2’s most memorable jokes.  Sadly, they didn’t cover my favourite: “When you were little, did you think he was handsome and then, like, your crotch got a headache?”

-Whoa. 20th Century Fox just pulled out of their big Hall H presentation at Comic Con — because they’re afraid of trailer piracy. What?! It’s TRAILERS. The whole point of them is to generate buzz/interest. How can that ever be a bad thing? The leaked Deadpool footage basically got that movie made.

Melissa McCarthy gives good speech.

Tegan and Sara‘s awesome new video features the equally awesome Mae Whitman and Rachel Antonoff.

-I still haven’t watched season 2 of Catastrophe (but it’s only 6 1/2-hour eps, so I might tackle it this weekend), but I love this article pointing out it’s greatest strength: the characters actually make each other laugh. You never really see that in comedies.

Ellen tricked Julia Roberts into selling sex toys. Fair.

Kelly Ripa is making contract negotiation jokes in front of Michael Strahan and he is not amused.
-Guys, there’s a Beyoncé-Jay Z fanfic that’s taking over the internet right now and I wanna blow off my next meeting to read it so bad.

-I really liked this article on the lack of blue collar representation on TV these days.

Geena Davis and Emma Watson talk feminism in the new issue of Interview.

-This Buzzfeed video about how TV needs to stop killing gay women is very good. (“Why not a gay ghost? Let their spirit live inside a cat.”)

Alicia Vikander will star as Lara Croft in the next Tomb Raider. Meh. At least it’s not another costume drama.

-Speaking of, Alicia and Dane DeHaan are secret lovers in the first Tulip Fever trailer.

-The new Captain Fantastic trailer left me with lots of ‘what the hell happened with Viggo Mortensen?’ questions.

-Here’s the first trailer for Snowden, in which Nic Cage says things like “find the terrorist in the internet haystack” and Joseph Gordon-Levitt does really weird stuff with his voice.
