Anya Taylor-Joy’s Breakout Year

Anya Taylor-Joy vanity fair

Anya Taylor-Joy is on the cover of Vanity Fair and talks about how The Queen’s Gambit has propelled her career to stratospheric new heights, with projects lined up alongside Robert De Niro, Chris Rock, Margot Robbie, Christian Bale, Nicole Kidman and Ethan Hawke. “I think I’ll probably understand this year in about five years. I think that’s when it will probably hit.”

Jennifer Garner appeared on Hot Ones and she was at her most charming. “Ina Garten would be appalled by this behaviour.” “You really had me feeling kinda cocky, didn’t ya?”  “Up your butt, Sean!”

Prince Harry will become chief impact officer of BetterUp, a fast-growing coaching and mental health firm. This seems like an issue he’s really passionate about, so good for him. (The title makes me laugh though.)

Prince William and Kate Middleton visited Westminster Abbey, the cathedral where they were wed nearly 10 years ago, to check out its vaccination clinic.

Thomas Middleditch’s alleged behavior didn’t come as much of a surprise to his former Silicon Valley co-star Alice Wetterlund, who tweeted “Tried to warn you all about Middleditch but noooooo not everyone’s favorite tinyman who looks like he lives in a clock!”

Hailey and Justin Bieber were spotted soaking up the sun in Turks and Caicos.  I’ve never been more jealous.

-HBO has announced not one, not two, but three Game of Thrones spinoffs: Nymeria, Flea Bottom, and The Sea Snake. It’ll be interesting to see what kind of appetite there is for these, seeing as the reaction to its final season seems to have tarnished its legacy. With all the rewatches people have been doing during the pandemic, that one never comes up.

Kristen Davis‘ new thriller is no 1 on Netflix — for reasons no one can understand.

-Despite being spotted kissing a new guy, Lizzo insists she’s single.

-Disney shifted a bunch of movie dates/platforms, with Black Widow and Cruella getting a premium Disney+ launch alongside a theatrical release, while Pixar’s Luca will skip theaters entirely. Also, Death on the Nile moving to Feb 2022. I wonder if that’s because there’s not a big appetite for Armie Hammer movies right now?

Sean Young does not mince words in this interview. She praises Michael Douglas and Jim Carrey, but calls out James Woods, Warren Beatty, Charlie Sheen, Steven Spielberg and Ridley Scott for toxic behaviour and getting her blacklisted.

-I didn’t see this coming: the villain of Shazam 2 will be played by Helen Mirren.

Oh no, Moby. No.

-Here’s the trailer for HBO’s Victorian-era fantasy series The Nevers, which debuts April 11 and was created by Joss Whedon (who has since left). I didn’t know Demelza from Poldark is in this!

Is Pete Davidson Dating Bridgerton’s Phoebe Dynevor?

Pete Davidson strikes again! According to DeuxMoi and the Daily Mail, he’s reportedly cozying up to Bridgerton lead actress Phoebe Dynevor.

-Meanwhile, a woman who claimed she was married to Davidson was arrested and charged with multiple crimes, including stalking and trespassing.

Angelina Jolie and her kids are reportedly ready to testify and offer “proof and authority in support” of her spousal abuse allegations against Brad Pitt — but weirdly the major outlets aren’t touching it.

-A day after she was featured in a segment about anti-Asian violence on John Oliver‘s show, Meghan McCain did not appear on The View. She did, however, tweet an apology “for any past comments that aided that agenda.”

-In the New York Times, Whoopi Goldberg was asked about her thoughts on marriage, and said: “I don’t want somebody in my house.” Makes perfect sense.

-The Talk team was informed Friday night the hiatus will extend throughout this week as the investigation into Sharon Osbourne continues.

Kylie Jenner, who boasts about being a billionaire despite what Forbes says, asked fans to help pay for her former makeup artist’s $60k life-saving surgery and it did NOT go well. She has since posted about it to “clear up the false narrative,” saying that she donated $5k even though he hasn’t worked for her in a few years. Yeah, that doesn’t make it sound better.

-Silicon Valley’s Thomas Middleditch is being accused of sexual misconduct, stemming from a Los Angeles Times report about the co-founders of a now-closed goth club in Hollywood.

Emerald Fennell has officially made it (by 2021 standards, at least). The Promising Young Woman director has just been tapped by DC to write the Zatanna superhero movie.

-The CW series Batwoman recast Ruby Rose’s role in last night’s episode.

-I really liked this feature on character actors — and longtime couple — Bill Camp and Elizabeth Marvel (who you would definitely recognize if you saw their faces) about the career renaissance for utility players in Hollywood. “We’re really fucking lucky. We got older as streaming platforms hit, and what they churn out is content. They need people to carry the water, and we are water carriers. No muss, no fuss.”

-The trailer for Chuck Lorre‘s new CBS sitcom debuted this weekend, and the reaction was swift and negative. Oh, and the concept might have been stolen!

-The Academy Awards are hoping to have a Zoom-free ceremony. “We are going to great lengths to provide a safe and enjoyable evening for all of you in person, as well as for all the millions of film fans around the world, and we feel the virtual thing will diminish those efforts.”

Armie Hammer Accused of Rape

-The media’s focus on Armie Hammer‘s alleged kinks and cannibalism comments have seemed to overshadow the more serious allegations about abuse and lack of consent. That might change now that the woman allegedly behind the House of Effie Instagram account, (which was the first to share anonymous allegations against the actor) officially accused him of rape and physical abuse during a 2017 encounter. In a press conference today alongside attorney Gloria Allred, she said “Armie Hammer violently raped me for over four hours in Los Angeles, during which he repeatedly slammed my head against a wall, bruising my face. He also committed other acts of violence against me to which I did not consent. For example, he beat my feet with a crop so they would hurt with every step I took for the next week. During those four hours, I tried to get away but he wouldn’t let me. I thought that he was going to kill me. He then left with no concern for my well-being.”

Hammer‘s lawyer denied the rape allegation and maintained that his relationship with the woman was “completely consensual, discussed and agreed upon in advance, and mutually participatory.” He also added, “It was never Mr. Hammer’s intention to embarrass or expose her fetishes or kinky sexual desires,” because why not add some shaming?

Hailey Bieber is on the April cover of Elle, and talks about wanting privacy when she first married Justin Bieber. “I just wanted to hide. I was like, ‘I don’t want people so in my business. I feel like everybody’s up my ass.’ I was like, ‘Can there be no anonymity? Can I have any of it back?'”

-Wait, so Billie Eilish has been wearing a wig? It must be a good one.

Ralph Fiennes came to J.K. Rowling’s defense, because I guess he doesn’t care about being liked or admired.

-Oof, this interview with writers on crime shows is a brutal read. “We had a quote wall in a writers’ meeting. Every writer would come along with ideas, someone always suggested a character get raped. I said, ‘The thing is, that character’s already been raped.’ There was this big silence, and my boss said, “When was she last raped?” Sexual violence, violence against women, was the go-to for creating any drama. And it went on the quote wall: ‘When was she last raped?'”
