Melissa McCarthy Calls Out Billy Bush in New Interview

-In her InStyle cover storyMelissa McCarthy recalls being subjected to a terrible interview by someone who sounds a lot like Billy Bush. “I do remember another interview I did for Bridesmaids with somebody who later lost his job for a conversation he had on a bus with someone else. I won’t mention names, but just think about it. He kept asking, ‘Are you shocked that you actually work in this business at your tremendous size?’ He was like, ‘Oh, your tremendous size, you can actually work?’ I just remember all the blood drained out of me. I thought, ‘With my tremendous size, I could tackle you so quickly.’ ”

In her new People cover story, Nicole Kidman says she knew she wanted to marry Keith Urban after just six months of dating. “It was my [38th] birthday, and he stood outside with gardenias at 5 a.m. on my stoop in New York. That is when I went, ‘This is the man I hope I get to marry.'”

-Here’s how Kevin Hart worded his second apology: “Once again, Kevin Hart apologizes for his remarks that hurt members of the LGBTQ community. I apologize.” He added it’s not his “life dream” to become an LGBTQ ally. That’s swell.

-Meawhile, it seems that the Academy has resigned itself to the fact that the Oscars will air with no host for the first time in 30 years, according to Variety.

-In his new Hollywood Reporter cover storySamuel L Jackson admits he was a functioning crack addict for 15 years. “The whole time I was using, sure, I had a good reputation. I showed up on time, I did my lines. I was great. But there was something that was keeping me from getting to that next place.”

Kit Harrington says the cast was pretty much over it while filming the final GoT season.

-Marvel is making a TV show about Vision and Scarlet Witch for Disney’s new streaming service, with Paul Bettany and Elizabeth Olson expected to reprise the roles they originated on the big screen.

-Meanwhile, critics are not loving M. Night Shymalan‘s Glass. The embargo was lifted this afternoon and the reviews are mostly negative.

Anthony Mackie and Margaret Qualley are the last survivors on a toxic earth in the trailer for Netflix’s new sci-fi film IO.

Taylor Swift is on the cover of the new issue of Harper’s Bazaar — but she’s not interviewed. Instead, the suddenly press-shy pop star is the one asking the questions, interviewing musical muse Pattie Boyd. This is a pretty brilliant way of staying in the spotlight without having to answer any personal questions.

George Clooney was injured today after his scooter was hit by a car on the Italian island of Sardinia. (He has already been released from the hospital.) Clooney was driving 60 mph when he was thrown from his bike and traveled 20 feet in the air before hitting a car’s windshield; his helmet shattered on impact. PROTECT HIS FACE!

-The fact that Dwayne Johnson has fully embraced the fact that the internet calls him “Daddy” makes me very happy.

Justin Bieber posted a very long, very gushy Instagram post about getting engaged to Hailey Baldwin. “The thing I am most excited for is that my little brother and sister get to see another healthy stable marriage and look for the same!!!..My goodness does feel good to have our future secured!” Sure thing, bud.

-Meanwhile, Baldwin joked that she doesn’t want him to regrow his moustache for the wedding, which makes me like her.

-I missed almost all of these hidden words in the Sharper Objects premiere. Also, I’m really glad I’m not the only one who had to watch it with closed captioning on. Speak up, y’all!

Jonathan Rhys Meyers was briefly detained at LAX following an alleged verbal altercation with his wife on an American Airlines flight. His wife has since posted an apology on Instagram. “Eight months of sobriety and an unfortunate day of airline travel. We were in South America specifically working holistically through anger issues that result in these kinds of episodes. When in it…he is not in a frame of mind where he can really even comprehend the repercussions and necessary response to his own actions.”

-Who the hell wants to drink Handmaid’s Tale wine? Not everything needs a product tie-in, Hollywood.

-Maybe Rihanna and Hassan Jameel are fighting in these photos. Maybe she’s just animatedly telling him about the plot of Killing Eve. It’s hard to say (but the internet is say it anyway.)

Rosario Dawson, who fielded a lot of broadcast pilot offers, has signed on to star in USA Network’s Briarpatch from Mr Robot’s Sam Esmail and podcaster Andy Greenwald. I’ve been listening to Greewald since his Grantland days and even though I don’t know him, I’m weirdly proud of him for this. “Great job, Baranski!”

Chris Evans continues to win Twitter (this time with an assist from Billy Eichner).

-Thanks to the success of comedy specials from the likes of Hannah Gadsby and Ali Wong, Netflix is preparing to debut a ridiculous amount of stand up shows in 2019.

-Speaking of Hannah Gadsby, I just discovered her art history series on YouTube. She’s the best!

Tyler Perry surprised Tiffany Haddish with a new Telsa because she kept talking about getting one, but then wouldn’t do it. He told her “what I’ve learned is that it’s OK to spend a little bit.”

-Everything about Amy Poehler and Nick Offerman‘s new craft show seems adorable, including this promo clip in which they have a craft-themed pun-off.

-Now Nick Cannon has chimed into the Kevin Hart vs Mike Epps feud.

-Pretty much everyone who was part of Step Brothers came together for this oral history on the movie.

Roseanne Barr says she dropped out of a tell-all TV special and will now interview herself on YouTube.  (It’s unclear whether she ever had an interview booked with any TV network in the first place.)

-Apple continues to sink money into their upcoming TV offering, getting Jason Momoa to star in its futuristic drama See.

Billy Dee Williams is returning for Star Wars Episode IX as OG Lando Calrissian.

André Holland, Melanie Lynskey, Sissy Spacek, Bill Skarsgård, Jane Levy and Scott Glenn star in Hulu’s new Castle Rock, produced by J.J. Abrams and Steven King. This trailer is incredibly creepy.

-This Is Us creator Dan Fogelman‘s next tear-jerking project is Life Itself, a multi-generational drama that sees Olivia Wilde and Oscar Isaac falling in love. It also stars Antonio Banderas, Annette Bening and Mandy Patinkin.

Jimmy Fallon Tries to Redeem Himself, Fails Miserably

-NYT did a profile on Jimmy Fallon and he came off … not great. I don’t remember another attempt at damage control that made things this much worse. I gave up after the part where he talked about people being upset by his Trump interview and how “it hurt my feelings that they didn’t like it.”

-Twitter did not take kindly to the Fallon profile, either. (It also reminded me of that passage in BossyPants where Amy Poehler destroyed him.)

-Tragic: Rosario Dawson found her cousin dead in the actress’ Los Angeles home last week. No cause of death has been released.

Taylor Swift is reportedly dating a British actor named Joe Alwyn. She’s been laying low for the past few months — I wonder if she’ll keep it on the DL or make it Instagram official?

Katharine McPhee is denying rumours that she’s dating 67-year-old David Foster. Wait, what??

-This video of Kendall Jenner falling off a bike has 4 million views.  Well done, Internet!

Will Smith clashed with Pedro Almodóvar over the Netflix controversy at Cannes, and I’m on Will’s side on this one. Streaming services like Netflix make diverse, worldly content easily accessible to everyone no matter where they live.

James Corden is returning to host the Grammys in 2018. So basically it’s be another year of late night white dudes hosting all the award shows? Great.

-Pitch’s EP says he would like to shoot a goodbye episode. How about a goodbye three seasons?

-It was CBS’s turn at the upfronts today, where they got pissy that This Is Us has been crowned the biggest new show (it wins in the demo, but Bull actually has more total viewers), and defended the fact that all of their new fall shows have male leads. When pushed by reporters, Les Moonves said “I think we’re fine in terms of the amount of women who are behind the camera and in front of the camera.” See everyone? They’re FINE!

-CBS also announced that Star Trek Discovery takes place “10 years before Kirk, Spock, the Enterprise” and released a new photo and trailer.

-Warner Brothers insists the Justice League movie is totally fine so just ignore all those rumours that say otherwise, guys.

-In other DCU news, Sam Raimi reportedly passed on directing The Flash movie, which Billy Crudup just exited.

-Eff ya! Jordan Peele‘s next project is a Jim Crow-era HBO horror series.

Jeff Goldblum nearly became the voice of Apple’s Siri? Now that’s all I want.

-The article about The Handmaid’s Tale and how women (white women in particular) are complicit in systems of oppression is well worth a read.

-Hamilton star Daveed Diggs just got cast as the lead in a Snowpiercer TV show and I am here for it.

Stephen Amell is going to be on the Red Nose Day edition of American Ninja Warrior next week, and this preview shows him nailing the course. All that salmon laddering came in handy.
