Kristen Stewart Keeps It Real in Harper’s Bazaar

-In her new Harper’s Bazaar cover story, Kristen Stewart talks about being true to herself (“I’ve fully been told, ‘If you just like do yourself a favor, and don’t go out holding your girlfriend’s hand in public, you might get a Marvel movie.’ I don’t want to work with people like that”) and moving past her Twilight phase (“I try to avoid the word ‘awkward’. I want to reclaim that word, because it’s been used too violently against me”).

-FFS. She’s starring in the two buzziest movies this fall (Noah Baumbach’s Marriage Story and Taika Waititi’s Jojo Rabbit), so I don’t know why Scarlett Johansson isn’t trying harder to steer clear of controversy. Like, she literally has to just avoid saying something stupid and she’ll coast to an Oscar nom. And yet here she is in her new THR cover story defending — with very little prompting, I might add — Woody Allen. “I love Woody. I believe him, and I would work with him anytime…I see Woody whenever I can, and I have had a lot of conversations with him about it. I have been very direct with him, and he’s very direct with me. He maintains his innocence, and I believe him.”

-Will we ever really know what happened with Brangelina and the kids on that plane? Probably not, but Brad Pitt is coming clean about having issues with alcohol. In a new interview with the New York Times, he talks about getting sober (“I had taken things as far as I could take it, so I removed my drinking privileges”) and going to AA for a year and a half (“You had all these men sitting around being open and honest in a way I have never heard. It was this safe space where there was little judgment and therefore little judgment of yourself. It was actually really freeing just to expose the ugly sides of yourself. There’s great value in that”).

–Dwayne Johnson had to leave his honeymoon early to fill in for an injured Kevin Hart on the debut of Kelly Clarkson’s talk show. (I’m really bummed for her that Hart was her first booked guest. She deserves better.)

–Lil Nas X held his own and did really, really well despite Kevin Hart‘s attempts to gaslit him about his choice to come out. The internet was def on Lil Nas X’s side.

-Almost one year after Mac Miller‘s death, a man has been charged in connection with his passing for selling counterfeit pharmaceutical drugs containing fentanyl to Miller, two days before his death.

-Yikes. The Crazy Rich Asians co-writer has left the sequel amid a pay disparity dispute. Sources say that Warner Bros. offered Adele Lim $110,000-plus — while offering co-writer Peter Chiarelli $800,000 to $1 million (he later volunteered to split his fee with her). “Pete has been nothing but incredibly gracious, but what I make shouldn’t be dependent on the generosity of the white-guy writer,” Lim said. “If I couldn’t get pay equity after CRA, I can’t imagine what it would be like for anyone else, given that the standard for how much you’re worth is having established quotes from previous movies, which women of color would never have been [hired for]. There’s no realistic way to achieve true equity that way.” So basically the WB sold the first film on its groundbreaking representation — but is willing to endanger the sequel by underpaying because of sexism.

-It’s time for the People’s Choice Awards nominations — the only awards show where Riverdale could possibly lead the way.

-Meanwhile, the Riverdale photos released for the Season 4 premiere show the cast paying tribute to Luke Perry.

Chris Hemworth Talks Fitness Apps, Paparazzi

-It’s really cold. Everyone’s miserable. We’re only halfway through the week. Let’s all cheer up by feasting our eyes on Chris Hemsworth’s Men’s Health spread, mm-kay?

–Kevin Hart tweeted support for Jussie Smollett, and people were NOT having it.  It *is* pretty rich coming from someone who joked about beating his son if he were gay, and then wouldn’t apologize for it until forced to.

–Drake went to McDonalds and reportedly handed two employees $10k in cash each.

-According to a new Deadline report, Matthew McConaughey and Anne Hathaway are furious with Serenity’s film distributor after it posted the worst opening weekend numbers of their careers. They agreed to do a press blitz to save the film, but the distributor reportedly didn’t follow through with the accompanying marketing spend. Come to think of it, I don’t ever remember seeing a trailer or ad for it. It just came on my radar when critics started trashing its twist ending.

-The always-delightful Viola Davis explained menopause to Jimmy Kimmel.

–Richard E Grant is so pure. His entire social media feed during this Oscar race has been aces, but these photos of him finding out that Barbra Streisand tweeted at him are the best.

–Ariana Grande‘s fandom has uncovered so much about her upcoming album by sorting through vague clues that if I ever need to be defended in court, I want them to do it.

-Meanwhile, Ariana got a Japanese tattoo on her palm that she thought spelled “7 rings” but actually spells “BBQ grill.” At least she’s laughing about it.

-Newly unsealed documents in Kesha’s ongoing legal battle with Dr. Luke show that Lady Gaga stood firm in her support of the singer during a September 2017 deposition. This part where she told off Dr. Luke’s lawyer made me cheer: “Why on earth would this girl tell the entire world that this happened? Why on earth? Do you know what it’s like for survivors? Do you know what it’s like to tell people? Don’t you roll your eyes at me. You should be ashamed of yourself.”

-Universal is the first studio to accept the 4% challenge to hire women directors.

-The set of NCIS: New Orleans continues to be overrun with issues. An exec producer on the show, Adam Targum, has been fired. Sources told Vulture that Targum “bullied” people on set and that the HR department was told that several members of the writing staff had issues with him.

-This is a fun piece on what it’s like to consume Green Book by reading think pieces about it instead of actually seeing it.

-Hurray! When the new season of Killing Eve drops on the BBC on April 7, we won’t have to wait for it to come here because AMC will air it at the same time.

–Timothée Chalamet grooving to a deep cut from Mariah Carey is a mood.

-Millennium studio chief Avi Lerner, who called an exposé accusing director Bryan Singer of raping teens “fake news,” is clarifying his comments. His big defense? He OK’d his original statement without reading it first. Oh, and he says no one in Hollywood has complained about his statement, he’s standing by it, and he’s not convinced about the accusations against Singer. No one’s going to touch this Red Sonja movie with a 10-ft pole.

-In another depressing twist, Singer stands to make $40 million off Bohemian Rhapsody, even though the film’s entire Oscar campaign is built around trying to make everyone forget he is the credited director.

-I really like this casting announcement for Netflix’s You. She was great in The Haunting of Hill House.

-Journalist Jim DeRogatis and filmmaker Dream Hampton opened up about their lonely, often dangerous pursuit of the R. Kelly story.

-This is cool — in honour of Black History Month, Marvel is re-releasing Black Panther in 250 theatres for a week and giving away the tickets for free.

–Alec Baldwin, Salma Hayek and Joe Manganiello star in the Drunk Parents trailer.

Reese Witherspoon Wants to Put Women “In The Center Of The Story”

-In her new Vogue cover story, Reese Witherspoon talks about using her producing power to create strong roles for women and how she learned to own her success: “I used to hide my Oscar but then I was like, ‘Why shouldn’t I put it out here in the living room?'”

–Lady Gaga has finally apologized for working with R Kelly after getting lots of pressure to do so. (It’s a little strange that she invokes the “younger self” bit since it was only 5 years ago and by then the rumours about Kelly were widely known, but at least it’s something.)

-French band Phoenix has also apologized for working with him.

–Chris Pine and Patty Jenkins talk about their new TNT series in the latest issue of Variety, and Pine remains as charming as ever. I especially liked the part where he talks about playing a supporting role against a female lead, like in Wonder Woman: “Being in the film and supporting a woman doing that job is kind of a dance between ego and soul. I’m not too proud to admit it and say that at times, I’d have 30-minute conversations with Patty; I’d look at her, and she was wonderfully patient. I’d realize it had abso-f—ing-lutely nothing to do with me.”

-This is a good piece on how Bradley Cooper seems to simultaneously inspire awe an irritation by the way he plays the game.

-Not playing the Oscar game well are the men behind Green Book, who are increasingly showing their asses.

-God bless Terry Crews. He called out Kevin Hart for his reaction to the outrage over his anti-gay tweets. “The truth is, Kevin, you’re not being attacked. The truth is you have to just acknowledge what went on and acknowledge the pain of other people.”

–Terry‘s show Brooklyn Nine-Nine debuts at its new home on NBC tonight.

-I liked this interview with various movie, TV and music critics on if there’s any value in writing really harsh reviews.

-There’s a lot of thirsty tweets going around about Penn Badgley‘s stalker character on You, and I love that the actor keeps reminding people that his character is a murderous psycho that you should not be lusting over.

-Black Mirror creator Charlie Brooker is clapping back at Bandersnatch critics: “F*ck off, do something else.”

-This NYT list of the 20 best dramas since the Sopranos is surprisingly great. Enlisted! Veronica Mars! Jane the Virgin!

-Fox’s new show The Passage is getting decent reviews, which is good cause I’ve been missing Mark Paul Gosselaar on my TV screen since Pitch was cancelled.

-A new trailer for Punisher season 2 has arrived, and while I’m not here for Frank kissing someone who isn’t Karen, I’m definitely here for Frank begrudgingly becoming a father figure to an unruly teenage girl.

-Things get tense when terrorists take over a hotel in the new trailer for Hotel Mumbai starring Armie Hammer and Dev Patel.

-The trailer for Velvet Buzzsaw with Jake Gyllenhaal is beyond bizarre and I kind of love it?
