Melissa McCarthy Calls Out Billy Bush in New Interview

melissa mccarthy instyle

-In her InStyle cover storyMelissa McCarthy recalls being subjected to a terrible interview by someone who sounds a lot like Billy Bush. “I do remember another interview I did for Bridesmaids with somebody who later lost his job for a conversation he had on a bus with someone else. I won’t mention names, but just think about it. He kept asking, ‘Are you shocked that you actually work in this business at your tremendous size?’ He was like, ‘Oh, your tremendous size, you can actually work?’ I just remember all the blood drained out of me. I thought, ‘With my tremendous size, I could tackle you so quickly.’ ”

In her new People cover story, Nicole Kidman says she knew she wanted to marry Keith Urban after just six months of dating. “It was my [38th] birthday, and he stood outside with gardenias at 5 a.m. on my stoop in New York. That is when I went, ‘This is the man I hope I get to marry.'”

-Here’s how Kevin Hart worded his second apology: “Once again, Kevin Hart apologizes for his remarks that hurt members of the LGBTQ community. I apologize.” He added it’s not his “life dream” to become an LGBTQ ally. That’s swell.

-Meawhile, it seems that the Academy has resigned itself to the fact that the Oscars will air with no host for the first time in 30 years, according to Variety.

-In his new Hollywood Reporter cover storySamuel L Jackson admits he was a functioning crack addict for 15 years. “The whole time I was using, sure, I had a good reputation. I showed up on time, I did my lines. I was great. But there was something that was keeping me from getting to that next place.”

-Meanwhile, critics are not loving M. Night Shymalan‘s Glass. The embargo was lifted this afternoon and the reviews are mostly negative.

Anthony Mackie and Margaret Qualley are the last survivors on a toxic earth in the trailer for Netflix’s new sci-fi film IO.

-The Little trailer, starring Regina Hall and Issa Rae, looks like an updated version of Big and I’m so here for it.

Ellen DeGeneres Faces Backlash For Defending Kevin Hart

Ellen Degeneres doesn’t usually step in it, but hoo boy did she screw up today by having Kevin Hart on her show and pushing for him to be reinstated as the Oscar host. There was sooo much wrong here. It should have been a conversation about what he learned, how he’s sorry, what he’s doing for the black LGBTQ community, etc. But instead, Hart insisted he had already apologized for the tweets years ago (he hadn’t), while Ellen fed into his conspiracy theories and helped him re-frame the legitimate criticisms of his anti-gay tweet as a baseless onslaught by a mob of “haters”, which just made things worse. (Their insistence that the whole thing was a carefully timed “attack” cooked up by trolls combing through his 40k tweets to find hateful ones irked me the most. Haven’t they ever heard of Twitter Advanced Search? It took me 3 seconds to find this one. And this one. And ALL OF THESE.) The Ringer aptly dubbed their conversation “a baffling exercise in celebrity self-preservation.” This guy also summed it up very well.

-Also, good on Vulture for doing a deep dive into Hart‘s supposed “apologies.”

-Meanwhile, the Academy is reportedly open to Hart hosting as soon as he says the word.

John Legend was the only artist who was willing to speak out against R. Kelly in Lifetime’s docu-series. He tweeted: “To everyone telling me how courageous I am for appearing in the doc, it didn’t feel risky at all. I believe these women and don’t give a f–k about protecting a serial child rapist. Easy decision.”

Brie Larson doing 275lbs weighted hip thrusts for a cookie is a mood.

-All of the covers for W’s Best Performances of the Year issue are so, so good!

-Speaking of good covers, I love everything about Emma Stone on British Vogue.

-Is it the end of the era for celebrity apps? First the Kardashians shut down theirs, and now it’s Taylor Swift’s turn.

-Oh god. Drake may be making new music with Chris Brown.

Remi Malek confirmed he’s dating his Bohemian Rhapsody costar Lucy Boynton.

-TV critics Matt Zoller Seitz and Alan Sepinwall wrote a new book called The Sopranos Sessions. (Their last book, TV – The Book, is my fave coffee table read.) They interviewed Sopranos creator David Chase and when he was talking about the infamous final scene, he called it a “death scene.” Huh.

Gywneth Paltrow got in on the Brad Pitt meme action.

These photos made everyone think Madonna got butt implants, but she would prefer everyone shut up about it.

-Is Marvel really retconning Loki‘s supervillain role? Wasn’t mind control (or at least an altered state) often a little implied in those movies?

-This was a really fun Roxane Gay interview.

-Speaking of good interviews, I could read Ethan Hawke waxing poetic about life and art all day.

-The reviews for Lindsay Lohan’s new reality show have me intrigued.

Elle Fanning and Rebecca Hall star in the Teen Spirit trailer.  (Great, great use of a Robyn song.)

Jennifer Aniston Talks “Successful” Marriages and Lack of Social Media

Jennifer Aniston Elle Magazine

-In her new Elle cover storyJennifer Aniston talks about her marriages (“My marriages, they’ve been very successful, in [my] personal opinion…and when they came to an end, it was a choice that was made because we chose to be happy, and sometimes happiness didn’t exist within that arrangement anymore”), potential future children (“Who knows what the future holds in terms of a child and a partnership — how that child comes in… or doesn’t? And now with science and miracles, we can do things at different times than we used to be able to”) and her lack of social media presence (“If I’m sitting here posting something about my dogs or I’m Boomeranging my coffee mug in the morning, that’s just giving away one more piece of something that is mine”).

-The Oscars host search continued. Kevin Hart stepped down from hosting less than 24 hours after being announced because people found his (not very hidden) anti-gay tweets. I don’t believe this will hurt his career AT ALL, but those tweets weren’t secret. The Academy should have known better.

-Now the search is on for another host. Tiffany Haddish and/or The Rock would be awesome, no?

-The Cut writer of that Priyanka Chopra piece has apologized. But where’s her editor in all this?

-Look, I don’t post pics of celebrities’ kids, but holy crap you need to Google the new photo of George and Amal Clooney‘s son because it is is golden.

-Well, look at that: Doctor Who with Jodie Whittaker is a ratings success (which is funny because I saw a lot of fanboy tweets talking about what a failure it is….)

Saoirse Ronan is reportedly dating her Mary, Queen of Scots costar Jack Lowden.

-Wow, did I ever love this story on how marketing screwed over Jennifer’s Body, because no one knew how to sell a horror movie made by women for teen girls, and because everyone at the time was roorting for Diablo Cody and Megan Fox to fail.

-Seeing as how the Game of Thrones crew has talked a lot about filming fake scenes and printing fake scripts, I’m not convinced this leaked spoiler is legit.

-The Avengers: Endgame trailer is all anyone’s talking about. I can’t believe it’s coming out in April (just a month after Captain Marvel). I’m in no way complaining, but it feels like I *just* saw Infinity War. Also, here’s trailer, but with Boyz II Men’s End Of The Road  instead, which makes it even better.
