The Queen Confirms Harry & Meghan’s Move to Canada

-This is an interesting deep-dive into the statement The Queen released today. “At 5pm, Buckingham Palace issued a 153-word personal message…that simultaneously tried to resolve a royal crisis and hold a family together.”

Prince William and Prince Harry released a joint statement Monday denying news reports about William “bullying” Harry and Meghan.

-Meanwhile, this is a pretty devastating roundup of 20 headlines that demonstrates how differently royal reporters treated Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle (not that Kate didn’t take her lumps in the press as well. But the tone was not the same by a long shot).

-Also, palace insiders are worried about Harry and Meghan giving “a full, no-holds-barred sit down interview,” which could be used to brand the monarchy as racist and sexist.

-So the Oscar nominations came out this morning and the snubs have overshadowed any pleasant surprises. No Jennifer Lopez, no Adam Sandler, no Greta Gerwig for director, no Awkwafina, no POC acting nods beyond Cynthia Erivo. The condensed award season may have rewarded recent theatrical runs and people who have been campaigning hard but not as long (i.e. – Kathy Bates over JLo) rather than films that came out earlier (Hustlers, The Farewell, Rocketman, etc). Though that doesn’t explain Once Upon A Time’s success this morning, which came out in July.

-Despite not nabbing a Best Director nod, Greta Gerwig’s statement on Little Women’s is super classy.

-Today’s Twitter exchange between Kathy Bates and Adam Sandler (who costarred together in Waterboy) was very cute.

-Also, this is a very good take on why Joker shouldn’t have been nominated — let alone be leading the pack.

-Well, this is an odd twist: model Gigi Hadid was among the 120 potential jurors called on Monday for the Harvey Weinstein rape trail.

-At least she’ll have a shoulder to cry on: she’s apparently been working on rebuilding her relationship with Zayn Malik one year after calling it quits.

-A cohost on The View just quit…and sadly it wasn’t Meghan McCain.

Gwyneth Paltrow posting “Thank god I can now say I have something in common with Zendaya” about the Tom Ford molded bust, and Ira commenting “Gwyneth…you’re both in Spider-Man” will never not be funny.

-The cast of Schitt’s Creek met Nicole Kidman last night on the red carpet and I’m so happy for them!

Justin Bieber joined Youtuber David Dobrik to surprise fans. The one who didn’t know that JB was there and said “Yummy is just NOT it” owns my heart.

Jennifer Aniston posted a new Friends reunion pic.

Tina Fey and Amy Poehler are set to return as Golden Globes hosts, thank gawd.

-Because Showtime is notorious when it comes to keeping shows long past their prime, Shameless has been renewed for an 11th and final season.

-Westworld unveiled its season 3 release date (March 15) with a new promo.

-The first Morbius trailer is here and it surprisingly features Michael Keaton reprising his role as Vulture, last seen in Spider-Man: Homecoming.

Lizzo Is an Entertainer of the Year

EW’s Entertainers of the Year include LizzoAwkwafina, Renée Zellweger, Regina King, Taika Waititi and the cast of Succession.  I love how everyone is lusting over the Jeremy Strong pic. I don’t see it as Kendall but his real life photo shoots bring a whole other energy. Also, Sarah Snook talks in her adorable real accent in the video and she so wonderfully perky and un-Shiv-like.

-Time also named Lizzo the entertainer of the year. My Spotify Wrapped rankings would agree.

-Well, it now makes more sense why Justin Timberlake broke his silence on the affair rumours long after the story had died down. According to Us Weekly, “Jessica encouraged Justin to put out his statement on Instagram because she felt embarrassed by his actions and wanted him to take accountability.” People is quoting a source who says Jessica will stand by her man: “Obviously Justin drank too much this time, but Jessica believes he didn’t cheat on her. What’s most important to her in life is her family and being the best mom to Silas. She’ll never break up her family over something like this.”

-Meanwhile, Bette Midler wants Justin Timberlake to publicly apologize to Janet Jackson. Don’t we all?

-In the Hollywood Reporter, Reese Witherspoon addresses the backlash over her sizeable paycheque for Apple’s The Morning Show. “I guarantee these companies are real smart, and if they agree to pay us, they’re doing it for a reason. They probably had a lot of lawyers and a lot of business people decide on that number because they knew that they were going to make more than that back. Does it bother people when Kobe Bryant or LeBron James make their contract?”

-The SAG nominations were announced today. It’s insane that Knives Out isn’t nominated for ensemble cast, but good on the cast of Parasite for making the cut (I finally saw that movie and holy s%$# it’s amazing).

Harvey Weinstein and his former studio have a tentative $25 million deal with his accusers. Weinstein, accused of offenses ranging from sexual harassment to rape, won’t have to apologize, admit wrongdoing or pay his own money.

-How did I miss all the GIFs of Aaron Taylor-Johnson’s penis this week? (NSFW, obvs)

-As we recover from the first half of the CW crossover (which just isn’t as fun as they usually are, right?) here’s the first trailer for the CW’s newest superhero show Stargirl, starring Luke Wilson.

-Look, I don’t even go here but why is the Star Wars cast shading Rian Johnson and The Last Jedi? He did what he had to do.

-Holy cow the trailer for Promising Young Woman, starring Carey Mulligan, looks amazing! It costars Connie Britton, Molly Shannon, Alison Brie, Adam Brody and Max Greenfield.

The Rock Shows Off His Softer Side

-In a new interview with WSJ Mag, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson talks about his recent marriage to his longtime girlfriend, singer-songwriter Lauren Hashian. “My divorce did a number on me. I wasn’t fearful of getting married again, there was just some hesitancy. But Lauren was incredibly patient: ‘I love you, you love me, we have this amazing life together — no presh.'”

-I really, really love the styling on Taylor Swift‘s British Vogue shoot.

Liam Hemsworth is reportedly dating 22-year-old actress Maddison Brown, but she shut down questions about it in a recent interview. “I’m not answering that question. My rule is not talking about my personal life.”

Kim Kardashian was once offered $1 million for an Instagram post by a fast-fashion brand that often knocks off Kanye West‘s clothing line, so he asked her not to do it. She says he then rewarded her on Mother’s Day with a $1M cheque and a contract to make her part owner of his line. So basically, when Kim Kardashian stays off social media, everyone wins!

-Meanwhile, James Corden says Kanye canceled two times before finally filming Airplane Karaoke.

Tekashi 6ix9ine‘s girlfriend claims that Offset slid into her DMs. Cardi B insists he was hacked. The world, somehow, continues to spin.

-The Virginia Roberts Giuffre interview aired last night in the UK and she repeated her claim that she was trafficked by Jeffrey Epstein and forced into sex with Prince Andrew three times when she was 17.

-When Chris Evans‘ glorious sweater was revealed in Knives Out, my friend and I both automatically reached for each other and sighed loudly. So yeah, this costume designer deserves all the love she’s getting.

Chrishell Hartley filed a divorce petition in response to This Is Us actor Justin Hartley‘s divorce filing, and she listed a date of separation that’s months after what he listed.

Drake and Kylie Jenner: still not dating.

For some reason, the Variety reporter asked everyone on the Gotham Awards red carpet what they thought of Baby Yoda. Jennifer Lopez clearly had no idea what he was talking about (but pretended she did), Lili Reinhart wants to cuddle himLaura Dern rolled with itAwkwafina joked that she looks like “an uglier version” of him, and Elisabeth Moss said that Baby Yoda has “united the country in a way that is very necessary.”

-A sexual violence hotline in the U.S. witnessed a spike of more than 40 per cent after Grey’s Anatomy aired an episode about sexual assault. I gave up on Grey’s eons ago but caught up on that episode because there was so much buzz about it at the time and it was incredibly powerful.

-Of all the things Jason Momoa could possibly call Chris Pratt out about, a plastic water bottle wasn’t at the top of my list.

-NPR has launched it’s annual book concierge feature and it’s basically my entire xmas wishlist.

-Speaking of books, the author of Red, White and Royal Blue (which was one of my fave books of 2019) just announced a new novel and she’s describing it as “a queer Kate and Leopold” so I’m gonna need that asap.

Paul Welsley has an idea of how he wanted The Vampire Diaries to end, and it’s way better than how it actually ended.

-I wasn’t expecting the Black Widow trailer to give me Bourne vibes but I dig it. Also Florence Pugh going from Little Women to this is a giant flex.
