–John Legend has been named People’s Sexiest Man Alive which is cool, but man that pool cover photo is a weird choice.

-It’s the happiest time of the year: roundtable time! We kick off with the actress roundtable featuring Jennifer Lopez, Lupita Nyong’o, Awkwafina, Renee Zellweger, Laura Dern and (ugh) Scarlett Johansson.

-The latest Actors on Actors interview is the best one yet: Jennifer Lopez and Robert Pattinson. JLo talks about prepping for the Super Bowl (“Me and Shakira together. We’re both excited to have been given the opportunity to do that, as two Latin women, in Miami”) and Pattinson made me love him even more with his comments about acting (“I always say about people doing Method acting, you only ever see people doing Method when they’re playing an asshole. You never see someone just being lovely to everyone going, ‘I’m really deep in character'”).

-Time magazine has published its inaugural Next 100 class list, featuring young ‘uns like Camila Cabello and Awkwafina.

-The Friends reunion is actually happening — kinda. The cast and creators will reunite for an unscripted special on HBO Max.

-This Tom Hanks interview is delightful (as is the writer’s twitter thread about their conversation).

–King Princess is going to be opening for Harry Styles on his newly announced tour and holy shit I have to go to a Harry Styles concert now don’t I?

–Kristen Bell joined Jimmy Fallon to review the history of Disney songs.

Felicity Huffman Is Going To Jail

–Felicity Huffman just got sentenced to 14 days in jail for her part in the college admissions scandal.

–Adele filed for divorce yesterday, ending her 7-year relationship with Simon Konecki.

-The print edition of Marie Claire is going away, which is incredibly sad. But they’re going out with a cover that features Kacey Musgraves, Awkwafina, Lilly Singh and Megan Rapinoe.

-Once again, SNL has hired a new castmember seemingly without doing a basic Google search. New player Shane Gillis has been forced to apologize after racist and homophobic audio and tweets surfaced. And these weren’t from decades ago — they were from last year. (This audio clip in which he makes fun of Asian people is from TWO WEEKS ago!) He also called Judd Apatow and Chris Gethard the f-word. Oh, and he didn’t *actually* apologize; he just said “I’m happy to apologize to anyone who’s actually offended by anything I’ve said. My intention is never to hurt anyone but I am trying to be the best comedian I can be and sometimes that requires risks.” Ugh. Being a bigot isn’t risky; it’s the laziest thing ever.

-Speaking of Chris Gethard, he once did this very good interview about comedians being intentionally offensive.

-The internet is convinced Rihanna is pregnant.

–Brad Pitt told Ellen DeGeneres that she once hit on his then-girlfriend at a party: “I was flattered.”

-I don’t know how Vulture could have done a roundup of TIFF movies that are tearjerkers and not include The Friend, in which Jason Segel plays a man who moves in with his best couple friends when the wife is diagnosed with terminal cancer. My whole theatre SOBBED.

–Taffy Brodesser-Akner’s book Fleishman Is in Trouble — which might actually be my fave novel this year — is getting the TV treatment.

-On the 25th anniversary of Party of Five’s premiere, the reboot has announced its premiere date. To celebrate its anniversary, let’s look back on this look back at its best episode. I remember my mother and I watching this together and totally falling apart when Claudia makes her ultimatum.

-This is a pretty shocking Photoshop fail of a Margot Robbie photo.

-Bones actors David Boreanaz, Emily Deschanel and producers Kathy Reichs and Barry Josephson alleged that Fox had cheated them out of tens of millions of dollars. How the case was settled.

–Rosamund Pike plays two-time Nobel Prize-winning scientist Marie Curie in the trailer for Radioactive.

Missy Elliott Secures Her Legend Status

-I adore Missy Elliott‘s Marie Claire cover. She talks about breaking down barriers (“I am a champion for my brown, dark women. I want them to be seen. Because we are beautiful. If we knew how special we were, we would be unstoppable”), gender equality (“We need more women out there, singing and just for being. Just for balance. Just a great balance”) and learning to appreciate the big moments (“I was just going, going, going. It wasn’t resonating what was happening. I was in the car with Michelle Obama [for Carpool Karaoke], and [my friends] called me like, ‘Girl, we got to celebrate that’s huge!’ And I’m like, ‘I’m watching a movie on Netflix'”).

-Whoo! Taika Waititi has inked a deal to write and direct a follow-up to his 2017 smash, Thor: Ragnarok.

–Macy Gray gave a very strange talk show interview in which she said she’s a “vampire.”

-Netflix has altered Hannah’s graphic suicide scene in 13 Reasons Why after controversy — more than two years after it originally aired.

-This is the happiest I’ve been about Emmy nominations in YEARS. Sure, there were some snubs in this morning’s announcement that bugged me (Better Things, The Good Fight, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, Hot Priest), but wow some great newcomers managed to break into the ranks, including Russian Doll, Schitt’s Creek, Jodie Comer and Fleabag. Nicole and I watched the season finale of Fleabag last night (again) and were blown away by Oliva Colman and Sian Clifford‘s performances, so I’m thrilled they both landed Supporting Actress nods.

–Sacha Baron Cohen‘s tweets about getting an Emmy nod are amazing.

-Meanwhile, Julia Roberts jokingly(?) posted about getting snubbed.

–Joey King tearfully Facetiming costar Patricia Arquette immediately after getting nominated was very sweet.

-The bromance continues for Matt Damon and Chris Hemsworth.

-I have very little interest in watching Once Upon A Time in Hollywood. I am, however, here for watching Brad Pitt and Margot Robbie rib Leonardo DiCaprio about the Titanic door controversy. “Could you have squeezed in there? You could’ve, couldn’t you?” Leo was so over it before the interviewer even got the full question out.

-One thing I love about the CW is how often it lets its actors (especially women) direct episodes.

-Also, I stopped watching Supergirl but I love that they changed her costume to ditch the skirt.

-It sounds like Hayden Panettiere is having a rough go of it. She remains apart from her 4-year-old child, who lives with her father in Ukraine, as her current boyfriend faces charges of abuse.

–Awkwafina is having a moment. She’s interviewed by Margaret Cho in the new issue of Harper’s Bazaar. She talks about attending red carpets for Crazy Rich Asians: “I grew up never really feeling pretty or like a girly girl. I was uncomfortable in my skin when it came to that stuff. I had been dressed up for events and had gotten glam before, but at the Crazy Rich Asians premiere I looked in the mirror and it felt different. It sounds clichéd, but I felt like a princess.”

-Also, Awkwafina stars with Emma Roberts in the new trailer for the fantasy film Paradise Hills.

-A bearded Chris Evans helps smuggle Ethiopian refugees to Israel in the trailer for Netflix’s The Red Sea Diving Resort.
