Celebs Praise Jennifer Lopez in Instyle

Jennifer-Lopez-InStyle

Jennifer Lopez’s Instyle cover features quotes about her from a ton of costars and celebrities (though, noticeably, nothing from A-Rod). Among the famous friends singing her praises are Charlize Theron (“To call her a triple threat doesn’t come close to describing her—she’s all of the threats!”), Michelle Obama (“What impresses me the most about her is her unwavering commitment to leverage those gifts and use her platform to give voice to the voiceless”), Matthew McConaughey (“Extremely deliberate, intentional, fully choreographed, and self-aware, she even knows how to make accidents look like accidents”), and — most hilariously — Ben Affleck (“Where are you keeping the fountain of youth? Why do you look the same as you did in 2003 and it kind of looks like I’m in my 40s…at best?”).

-It’s Thandiwe, Not Thandie. Thandiwe Newton reclaimed her name in British Vogue, explaining the “w” was left out in her first acting credit and it stuck. “That’s my name. It’s always been my name. I’m taking back what’s mine.”

-I don’t know if I’m just getting used to the at-home fashions or if stars/stylists are really learning how to bring it, but the SAG Awards outfits were some of the best we’ve seen in ages.

-Last night’s SAG Awards marked the first time in its history that all four film acting categories went to actors of color. It also revealed how wide open the Oscar race really is. Is this what it looks like when stars can’t campaign? I love it!

-Rapper DMX overdosed on Friday night which triggered a heart attack, and the prognosis is not looking good.

Regé-Jean Page will not be returning for Bridgerton season two, saying he was only contracted for a one-season arc. I mean, he’s right, and I don’t think it’s as big of a deal as people seem to be making it out to be. The second season follows the second book, which means the main focus was always going to be on Anthony and Kate, so Simon and Daphne would be pushed to the background regardless. A couple of cameos would have been nice (especially in the Pall Mall scene), but I hope his absence doesn’t keep people away from the show. Not only will this season focus on the book series’ BEST couple, it will be led by an openly gay actor and a British-Indian actress — and that’s pretty effing boss.

Apple Martin roasts her mom Gwyneth Paltrow‘s morning routine in a new TikTok: “She just prances around the bathroom putting on her millions of Goop glow products…Then she gets to working making some more vagina eggs and vagina candles and vagina perfumes. Just everything vagina.”

-In a new video on her YouTube page, Hailey Bieber chats with a psychologist about the negative effects of social media on mental health.

-Reviews for HBO’s The Nevers suggest the show requires some benefit-of-the-doubt. It’ll be interesting to see what the next batch of episodes looks like since Joss Whedon left the show, because according to Variety, in its current state it “bears so many of his narrative and stylistic hallmarks that it might as well be playing Whedon Bingo.”

-One of the only shows I’m currently watching right now, Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist, has pretty much lost me. This week’s episode was especially rough.

Armie Hammer has departed The Minutes, a Broadway play which was originally set to debut last year and is now on track to resume production during the 2021-2022 season.

-Here’s the trailer for Netflix’s The Circle season 2.

Jamie Kennedy did not seem prepared to be grilled about his role in an anti-abortion movie.

Scarlett Johansson and Colin Jost popped up on RuPaul’s Drag Race to offer advice.

-The final Black Widow trailer arrived this weekend.

-The biggest buzzed Marvel trailer right now is the new one that dropped today for the Loki series on Disney+, which is coming this summer. It looks really, really good.

Meghan Markle Hits Back at Smear Campaign

-My god, how much does the palace and/or the British press hate Meghan Markle? Or at the very least, are terrified of her? In a very transparent attempt to undercut this weekend’s Oprah interview, there’s a new, flimsily detailed smear story in the Times about her “bullying” the royal staff. And in a highly unusual move, Buckingham Palace just released a statement that they will investigate the claims because they will not “tolerate bullying.” That’s rich.

-The story also makes a big deal of her earring choice, but this thread reveals how she was clearly set up. My god, no wonder Harry wanted to get her away from there.

-Of course, the palace could spend all this energy looking into the allegations surrounding Prince Andrew instead, but they’re all “nah.”

-Meanwhile, Meghan‘s camp released a statement: “It’s no coincidence that distorted several-year-old accusations aimed at undermining the duchess are being briefed to the British media shortly before she and the duke are due to speak openly and honestly about their experience of recent years.”

-Bets are being made about the new baby’s name, with “Diana” leading the way with 10/1 odds.

-The Golden Globes have come and gone, but the LA Times is still going after them. They just reported that HFPA members voted not to hire a diversity consultant last summer.

Regé-Jean Page is gonna be in a movie with Ryan Gosling and Chris Evans?! Just take my money already.

-In weirder casting news, Joseph Gordon-Levitt will play Jiminy Cricket, and Cynthia Erivo a Blue Fairy in a live-action Pinocchio.

-The Hollywood Reporter keeps tweeting out clips from their actors roundtable and the clips with Ben Affleck have an energy that worries me.

-Though apparently he’s doing well and working with George Clooney.

-Comedian Chris D’Elia is being sued by a woman who says he sought pictures and sex from her when she was 17. He’s accused of soliciting more than 100 sexually explicit photos and videos. He denies the claims.

Alec Baldwin needs to keep Gillian Anderson’s name out of his mouth.

Camila Cabello launched an initiative to provide grants to ten BIPOC, LGBTQ+and youth-led organizations to cover six months’ worth of mental health support for their workers.

Emo is having a moment — and it’s all because of TikTok.

-I’ve missed movies and theatres so, so much during this past year, and there’s only been two experiences that have made me feel like I was sitting in an audience again. The first was last fall’s David Byrne’s Utopia, and the second was the In & Of Itself, which just landing on Crave. It’s ostensibly a magic show (and yes, there are some card tricks and illusions) but it’s more an examination of identity and personal narratives. I sobbed — not because it was depressing but just because it was so incredibly profound and moving.

-Moxie, the new Amy Poehler–directed teen-feminist rom-com on Netflix, is getting lukewarm reviews.

Melissa McCarthy and Octavia Spencer become superheroes in Netflix’s Thunder Force trailer. The “Kiss From a Rose” bit got me. Also, the fact that Bobby Cannavale and McCarthy keep making movies together makes me happy.

Dolly Parton Gets a “Dose of Her Own Medicine”

Dolly Parton got a vaccine and all is right with the world.

Britney Spearsfather says he “would love nothing more than to see her not need a conservatorship.” Well, that seems like an easy fix on his end.

-Meanwhile, she showed off a new photo of her sons, who are full-grown teenagers now.

-Gutting: Jahmil French, who played Dave Turner for several seasons on Degrassi: The Next Generation, has died at age 29.

-I mentioned yesterday how weird it was for Taylor Swift to call out an out-of-context joke on Ginny and Georgia. Now, Swifties are harassing the show’s young actress, Antonia Gentry.

-When they weren’t busy harassing her, they also went after John Mayer.

-Ex-Bachelorette Rachel Lindsay has spoken out after disabling her Instagram page because Chris Harrison fans (those exist?) were somehow blaming her for his absence.

Armie Hammer reportedly moved out of his family home over the weekend “under the cover of night” — and the movers may have left a rope-bound mannequin in the trash.

Alec and Hilaria Baldwin debuted their new baby girl yesterday on Instagram, just five months after she gave birth to a baby boy. When a commenter asked if they used a surrogate, he responded “You should shut the f–k up and mind your own business.” Their PR rep added: “We’re still not issuing a statement or confirming anything — what she posted stands.” Everyone’s entitled to privacy when it comes to this stuff, but “the post stands” is my new favourite “no comment.”

-Riverdale’s Cole Sprouse may be dating model Ari Fournier.

George Clooney did a dramatic reading of BTS’ “Dynamite.”

Ray Fisher shared new details of “racially discriminatory conversations” on the Justice League set and specifically called out Geoff Johns: “There will likely be attempts to shift blame completely onto Kevin Tsujihara and Joss Whedon. But make no mistake. Geoff Johns worked intimately with Joss to overhaul the entire Justice League script. And while Geoff was not credited as a co-writer of the film, he was certainly an enforcer of the race-based discrimination that occurred during his conversations with Toby and Jon.”

T.I. will not return for Ant-Man 3 amid those sexual assault allegations.

-I can’t believe I’m typing these words, but the Dungeons & Dragons film sounds awesome. First Chris Pine signed on, then came Bridergton’s Regé-Jean Page, and now Hugh Grant has been cast as villain.

-This is a good rundown of all the drama that’s been happening with YouTubers.

-Superman & Lois has been renewed for a second season at The CW — after airing only one episode. The premiere performed well multiplatform.

Oprah‘s special with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle has found a British home — it’ll air on ITV in the UK.

-I gasped at nearly every new word in this headline: “Nicole Kidman, Cynthia Erivo, Merritt Wever, and Alison Brie to star in an Apple series about ‘what it means to be a woman’ from the creators of GLOW”.

-The Golden Globes ratings hit historic lows, losing 60% of viewers year over year. This, plus all the controversy about its voting members, makes me wonder if it will continue to be a major event going forward.

-The pandemic-related productions delays have finally caused a break in the era of peak TV.

-TikTok is being flooded with Tom Cruise deep fakes. These things are terrifying,

-The town of Húsavík got together to film a video about wanting an Oscar since the song from Eurovision is eligible for an Academy Award. The JA JA DING DONG guy even makes an appearance.

-This is a great piece on how Nomadland disrupts Hollywood’s fantasy of the drifter.

Tye Sheridan and Lily-Rose Depp star in the Voyagers trailer, which looks like Lord of the Flies in space.
