Demi Lovato Opens Up about Sexuality, Broken Engagement

demi lovato glamour

Demi Lovato covers Glamour to promote her upcoming Youtube documentary and talked about her past issues with food (“I was excited that I was in a comfortable place in my body to show more skin, but what I was doing to myself was so unhealthy”), her sexuality (“I know who I am and what I am, but I’m just waiting until a specific timeline to come out to the world as what I am”), her broken engagement (“Because I denied my intuition of all the red flags that had popped up, I had no one else to blame but myself”), and her new outlook on life (“I am now making choices—for the day, and then the future—about what it is I want and what’s going to make me the happiest”).

Michael B Jordan got zen for his Men’s Health cover story.

-In Selena Gomez‘s Vogue cover story, she says she’s not done with music — yet. “It’s hard to keep doing music when people don’t necessarily take you seriously. I’ve had moments where I’ve been like, ‘What’s the point? Why do I keep doing this?’ “Lose You to Love Me” I felt was the best song I’ve ever released, and for some people it still wasn’t enough. I think there are a lot of people who enjoy my music, and for that I’m so thankful, for that I keep going, but I think the next time I do an album it’ll be different. I want to give it one last try before I maybe retire music.”

-A Deux Moi blind was posted yesterday about how the first of the Armie Hammer articles would drop today, and it ended up being from Vanity Fair. It’s a good deep dive into his family’s messed up history (including an eye-popping tidbit about how his dad has a sex chair with the family crest on the seat), but when it gets to Armie himself, it goes pretty easy on him. There’s four different quotes from anonymous friends of his dismissing the allegations as simply a kink or evidence of his “dry sense of humour,” and casting suspicions on his estranged wife about the timing of the leaked DMs (despite the fact that she’s seemed remarkably restrained, considering). It also seems to downplay the allegations of assault/abuse his recent exes Paige Lorenze and Courtney Vucekovich have leveled elsewhere.

-It’s interesting to see how the royal family is responding to the Oprah interview. Prince Charles hasn’t officially said anything, though his camp tells Vanity Fair he’s “devastated” because “he feels let down by them both. There is not a racist bone in his body and to suggest otherwise is very hurtful.” Prince William was more direct about going on the defensive, telling the media “We’re very much not a racist family” and that he still hasn’t talked to Harry about it.

-In a new Harper’s Bazaar’s article Omid Scobie quotes from an email he claims that Meghan Markle sent about not making Kate Middleton cry over flower girl dresses. “Well, if we’re just throwing any statement out there now, then perhaps KP can finally set the record straight about me [not making her cry],” she reportedly wrote to an aide.

-Harry Potter’s Katie Leung says publicists instructed her to pretend she wasn’t the target of racist vitriol by fans while playing Cho Chang in the films. “I remember them saying to me… ‘just say it’s, say it’s not true, say it’s not happening.'”

-Oh god, Matthew McConaughey is rumbling about going into politics.

-I had no idea there was a spinoff of The Boys in the works, but I’m here for it.

Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas will announce the Oscar nominees on Monday morning. Seems like an odd choice but ok.

Emmy Raver-Lampman and Daveed Diggs‘ house is featured in Architecture Digest and it’s so colourful and fun.

Adam McKay is the executive producer on a new HBO doc about QAn*n. Here’s the first trailer.

-Here’s the trailer for Anya Taylor-Joy and Finn Cole‘s new film, Here Are The Young Men.

Steven Yeun’s Big Year

Steven Yeun Variety

Steven Yeun is on the cover of Variety to promote his critically acclaimed new film Minari — which, for some reason, won’t compete in the Best Picture category at the Golden Globes and has been relegated to Foreign Language category, despite it being an American story set in America and made by an American director.

-I can’t believe that Margaret Qualley is dating Shia LaBeouf. On purpose.

-Good on John Mulaney for facing his problems. I hope he gets better.

A fresh wave of Wonder Woman 1984 reviews came out today because the screener embargo was lifted — and they’re much less glowing than the select early reviews Warner Bros curated.

-On the opposite end of the spectrum, Promising Young Woman also debuts on Christmas Day and the reviews seem to be getting even better.

-Oof.  Warner Bros is reportedly considering moving Dune back to a traditional theatrical release to “preserve its franchise potential.”

Prince William, Kate Middleton and their kids were reportedly spotted strolling with Prince Edward’s family — despite not being in the same covid bubble.

-This is an interesting look at why only a handful of celebs dominated this year’s media coverage. “With fewer people to photograph, almost every star was bound to get some traction just for stepping outside—and some say the stars have been cooperating to make it happen.”

-HBO Max is eyeing a Samantha-less Sex and The City revival. Don’t.

-This is a great examination of why J.K. Rowling‘s anti-trans stance shouldn’t be surprising. Her books are all about identifying/putting people in their place (wizards vs muggles, sorting hat, etc.) and she’s always seemed entrenched in her opinions, reluctant to allow much room for interpretation in her novels and “determined to map and describe every corner of her fictional world.”

-I missed the Eddie Izzard announcement but I love her and hope she’s happy.

Dominic West’s family holiday card is as awkward as you’d expect after the year he’s had.

The reviews for Netflix’s Bridgerton are glowing. “Frothy, silly escapism” is exactly what we need to ride out this craptastic year. Here’s hoping this leads to a wave of romance adaptations.

-This old ABC promo is blowing my mind.

Viola Davis and her husband take nightly baths together just to soak and talk—and sometimes she gives him facials. They have it all figured out.

Selena Gomez has cut ties with Hillsong Church. I’m surprised it took this long.

-So it’s been a few days since Ariana Grande’s engagement. Have we figured out why her ring is sideways yet?

Emily Blunt and Jamie Dornan trying to make the twist in Wild Mountain Thyme make sense when asked about it in interviews is their best acting yet. (If you don’t know what the twist is, please please please give yourself an early xmas gift and spoil it.)

Mads Mikkelsen laughing off the suggestion of speaking to Johnny Depp about taking over his Fantastic Beasts role with “I don’t know him” is, well, fantastic.

-The more Chris Pratt jokes about being named the worst Chris, the more obvious it is that it bugs him immensely.

-The fact that Kirk Cameron grew up to be such a garbage person would have crushed my 1986 self.

-Not surprisingly, the Mission Impossible 7 crew are reportedly walking on eggshells after Tom Cruise‘s rant.

-FX has greenlit a comedy series about Native American teenagers called Reservation Dogs from Taika Waititi and filmmaker Sterlin Harjo.

Denzel Washington and Rami Malek hunt for a serial killer in The Little Things trailer.

Taylor Swift Is Dropping Clues

Taylor Swift posted a black-and-white picture captioned, “not a lot going on at the moment.” She wore the same message on a t-shirt in her “22” music video and, in April, she used the caption while secretly recording folklore. While some assume it’s an “Exile” music video, the likeliest bet is that she’s re-recording Red, now that she’s officially free to. In her AMA speech, she confirmed that she’s re-recording her old music in the studio she originally did it.

-Euphoria star Lukas Gage posted a Zoom audition in which the director, thinking he was muted, mocked the size of his apartment. I’ve never seen so many blue-checked replies in a comments section, and they come from a weird, wide range of celebs like Dakota Fanning, Paul Mescal, January Joans, Molly Shannon, Emmy Rossum, Robbie Amell, Paul Scheer.

-TMZ reports the director on the call was Tristram Shapeeroand says he’ll be releasing his side of the story — but it won’t include an apology. Not quite sure how that comment could have possibly be taken out of context but sure.

Vanessa Hudgens was spotted looking cozy with MLB player Cole Tucker.

-When Ben Affleck and Ana de Armas were in New Orleans last week, everyone zeroed in on the massive diamond ring she was wearing, but it seems they were simply doing reshoots for Dark Water, in which they play a married couple. The way she’s looking at the ring though, they were def playing it up for the paps.

-This is a great interview with Kristen Stewart, in which she’s asked if only queer actors should play queer characters. “would never want to tell a story that really should be told by somebody who’s lived that experience. Having said that, it’s a slippery slope conversation because that means I could never play another straight character if I’m going to hold everyone to the letter of this particular law. I think it’s such a gray area. There are ways for men to tell women’s stories, or ways for women to tell men’s stories. But we need to have our finger on the pulse and actually have to care. You kind of know where you’re allowed. I mean, if you’re telling a story about a community and they’re not welcoming to you, then fuck off.”

-Jeopardy is not naming a new long-term host after Alex Trebek‘s death right away. For awhile, there will be a series of rotating hosts, starting with Ken Jennings.

-I didn’t understand The Weeknd’s look at last night’s AMAs.

Bad Bunny was originally set to perform at the AMAs but had to cancel after testing positive for the rona.

Christine Baranski says she “practically didn’t have to read the script” before joining Dolly Parton’s new Christmas film: “Oh my God, I get to hang out with Dolly Parton!? She’s going to be my personal Christmas angel? Where do I sign the papers?” It just hit Netflix and I cannot wait to watch it.

-Now here’s a headline to kick off the week: “Sex Pistols star Johnny Rotten bitten by a flea on his penis after rescuing squirrels”

Hasan Minhaj was trending today for a clip from Vanity Fair’s lie detector test where he said he was more attractive than Dax Shepard.

-Speaking of Hasan, women of colour who worked on his Netflix show Patriot Act have called out his treatment of them.

-Netflix today announced that, according to their numbers, a record-setting 62 million households chose to watch The Queen’s Gambit in its first month, making it its biggest scripted limited series to date. I don’t believe Netflix’s ratings press releases at all, but it must mean something that it’s been listed in the Top 10 in Canada for weeks. The fact that it hit No. 1 for at least a day in 63 different countries speaks to it’s wide appeal — everyone from teens to grandmas seems to be watching it.

-Meanwhile, expect it to land on many Best TV of 2019 lists.

Prince William and Kate revealed their ‘dear dog’ Lupo died over the weekend.

-I remember when Ryan Reynolds filmed Just Friends in Saskatchewan and there were so many stories coming out of that town about him being um, not great. But his reputation on set has definitely turned around the last couple of years. And now he’s doing stuff like this: he recorded over 400 personalized videos to thank his quarantining crew.

Kelly Clarkson and Jewel teamed up for a “Foolish Games” duet over Zoom to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Piece of You album and it was pretty damn great.

-What Alan Rickman once said about costar Tim Allen is perfection.

-The CW’s Arrowverse continues to implode now that the anchor show has ended: Black Lightning’s upcoming season will be its last, and it sounds like the cast found out the same time the rest of us did.

Dennis Quaid and Sean Patrick Flanery team up for a MMA drama in Born a Champion.
