Halle Berry’s a Fighter

Halle Berry covers Women’s Health to promote Bruised and talks about stepping into the ring to fight and stepping behind camera to direct. “When I realized I couldn’t find a director who saw this story like I saw it, I had a moment of reckoning. I finally realized that at this point in my life, I was ready. I had to take control. I said, ‘Okay, I’m going to work harder than I’ve ever worked.’ ”

Gugu Mbatha-Raw covers Variety UK and discusses the “illusion” of diversity on TV: “It’s very diverse in front of the camera, and people accept that…When you look at camera operators, sound engineers and everyone behind the scenes, it’s a very different picture.”

-Five years after it happened, 12 people have been charged for robbing Kim Kardashian at gunpoint in a Paris hotel room.

-The original cast of Saved By the Bell appeared in the reboot for a scene honouring Screech (the late Dustin Diamond). Why are they all so … shiny?

-Speaking of the Saved By the Bell reboot — they’re doing a tribute to Showgirls?!

Zoë Kravitz is talking up The Batman costar Robert Pattinson in her new interview with Variety. “Rob is perfect for this role. He was incredible. His transformation was out of this world.”

-There’s something wonderful about the random collection of celebs who attended Danny DeVito’s bday party.

Prince William is once again criticizing population growth in Africa, blaming it for destroying wildlife on the continent (which is pretty rich coming from someone who’s expecting his third child).

-Meanwhile, BBC’s new documentary, The Princes and the Press, claims he has been reaching out to the tabloid press to build a better relationship and influence their stories.

-Amid rumours about her health, Prince Charles insists the Queen is “alright,” adding “Once you get to 95, it’s not quite as easy as it used to be. It’s bad enough at 73.”

-This Is Us’ main adult cast fought for — and got — $2 million cash bonuses for the final season.

Benedict Cumberbatch talked about The Power of the Dog’s themes of toxic masculinity, saying “We need to fix the behaviour of men. You have to kind of lift the lid on the engine a little bit.”

Louis C.K. and Dave Chappelle were both nominated for Grammys. Being cancelled seems real rough.

-The annual Book Concierge from NPR is always worth browsing through for good recommendations. (Though it breaks my heart to see some of my fave books from this year are blurbed by Petra Mayer, the late great NPR book editor.)

-Disney’s Encanto is getting rave reviews.

-Speaking of raves, I don’t watch The Great British Baking Show, but people are going nuts about the semifinal episode.

-Star Trek Discovery has left Netflix, much to fans’ disappointment.

-Speaking of Star Trek Discovery, star Sonequa Martin-Green paid tribute to Whoopi Goldberg on The View. “I am your accomplishment and I thank you.”

-This is a cute TikTok tie-in to the new Spider-Man movie.

-Meanwhile, here’s the latest Spider-Man: No Way Home trailer.

Adam Brody Reminisces about The OC

Adam Brody was a guest on the latest episode of the OC recap podcast, and the entire conversation is a delight. He and ex-girlfriend Rachel Bilson reminisce about the show, analyze Seth Cohen’s legacy, and argue about whether or not he costarred with her in Jumper. They were supposed to recap the third season episode “The Strip” but they talked so much they had to split it into two episodes.

-Everyone is still trying to make Chris Evans and Selena Gomez happen. Unsubscribe.

-The Crown is set to defy the express wishes of Prince William in its upcoming season by including a dramatized version of Princess Diana‘s interview with Martin Bashir. As it is believed the Netflix drama will recreate the infamous moment she tells the BBC ‘there were three of us in this marriage.’

-A “live” round was used in the gun that killed Rust cinematographer Halyna Hutchins, the Santa Fe Sheriff’s Department and the Santa Fe County District Attorney said in a press conference today. They added that it’s too early to determine whether charges would be filed.

-Rust’ armorer told investigators that live ammunition was not used on the set, while the first assistant director told investigators that he did not check all three rounds in a handgun before giving it to Alec Baldwin and declaring it a “cold gun.” He acknowledged he should have done so.

-There’s been a lot of talk about the inexperienced crew/below the line workers on the set of Rust, but I think this article is the first I’ve seen to put more blame (rightly) on the producers.

Ioan Gruffudd‘s split from wife Alice Evans continues to be messy. Just as he went Instagram official with his new girlfriend, she’s accusing him of a three-year affair.

Skeet Ulrich initially thought Matthew Lillard and Jamie Kennedy were ruining Scream by improving jokes. “[I was] like, ‘This isn’t funny. This isn’t supposed to be funny.’ And man, was I wrong.”

Tom Holland says that he can’t wait for people to see one particular scene in Spider-Man: No Way Home. “It’s one of the coolest scenes I’ve ever shot… it’s four people sitting at a table, having a conversation about what it’s like to be a superhero, and it was amazing.” It’s got to be with all the other actors who played Peter Parker who are rumoured to appear, right?

Britney Spears‘ fiancé Sam Asghari has been cast in an action movie alongside (ugh) Mel Gibson.

Kevin Hart takes a dramatic turn in Netflix’s upcoming seven-episode drama Matter of Life and Death, costarring Wesley Snipes. Watch the first trailer here.

-A new trailer for House Of Gucci shows Lady Gaga meeting Adam Driver. Oh my god, these accents!

-A new Wheel of Time trailer has dropped. GQ recently did a huge profile on the new Amazon show, and the scale and expense of this thing is insane. (The piece also does a good job of capturing the actors’ dawning realization that if this turns in to the next Game of Thrones like Jeff Bezos wants it to, they could be filming in Prague for the next 5-10 years.)

Chris Evans voices the original Buzz Lightyear in Pixar’s upcoming Lightyear movie (though he only says the word “and” in the trailer). Director Angus MacLane told Entertainment Weekly to not think of Lightyear as being set in the world of Toy Story. “It’s a straightforward sci-fi action film about the Buzz Lightyear character…It’s that character but as the space ranger, not as the toy.” Is it just me, or is that a fundamental misunderstanding about what audiences want to see of these characters?

Prince William and Kate Middleton Mark 10 Years

Prince William and Kate Middleton are celebrating their 10-year anniversary and they released new official portraits and a sweet family video. It’s clearly a PR play, but it’s very cute so I’ll take it.

-In less happy royal family news, despite being near each other for Prince Philip‘s funeral, Prince Charles reportedly continued to freeze Harry out and they “barely communicated.”

-Gucci’s new ad campaign involves celebs appearing on a fake talk show, hosted by James Corden. My favourite is Dakota Johnson because she looks like she’s about 2 seconds from pulling her “Actually no, that’s not the truth, Ellen” schtick.

They were able to repair their friendship and now say they’re besties. Said Jason: “They’ve both subsequently been married since. A couple of times. They’re both very happy in their lives, and what lasted after all of that was me and Kiefer. Thirty-five-year buddies.”
