Nina Dobrev

TV’s Leading Ladies Talk Shop

Emilia Clarke, Michelle Williams, Patricia Arquette, Christine Baranski, Danai Gurira and Niecy Nash

-God, I love Emmy roundtable season! In THR’s new issue, drama actresses Emilia Clarke, Danai Gurira, Michelle Williams, Patricia Arquette, Christine Baranski and Niecy Nash gather to talk about pay parity, the pressure to look a certain way, and standing up for their characters. (I particularly liked this bit from Gurira: “I remember having an argument with the director [on Walking Dead] because I was like, ‘I know you have [this love scene] written here like this, but this is what you’re getting.’And I wrote it on the script and I handed it to him.”)

Nina Dobrev and screenwriter/director Grant Mello look blissed up in love in Cannes. I’m happy for her — she seemed to be going through it for a bit.

-A judge ordered Hayden Panettiere’s boyfriend Brian Hickerson to stay away from her after he was arrested on a domestic violence charge earlier this month.

-ABC’s live revival of classic Norman Lear sitcoms last night was weird and wonderful. I didn’t catch the whole thing but I did see Jennifer Hudson doing The Jefferson’s theme song, and Jamie Foxx‘s hilarious break in character.

Gabrielle Union says she’s coaching hubby Dwayne Wade on basic life skills now that he’s retired from basketball. “He’s like, ‘What is this place? There’s all kind of like khaki shorts and cargo shorts and there’s all different colors.’ I’m like, ‘That’s Old Navy’…He has no idea how much milk costs. He’s like, ‘What is that, $20?’ and I’m like, ‘What kind of goat’s blood milk [are you drinking]?'”

-Warner’s upcoming streaming service just landed Anna Kendrick to star in a romcom series.  Great, yet another subscription!

Lena Waithe did an amazing job last night guest-hosting for Kimmel, but everyone’s talking about the smooch Halle Berry laid on her which I found…weird. Isn’t it a little queerbaiting? Doesn’t Lena have a fiancée?

-Huh. ABC cancelled Whiskey Cavalier a couple of weeks ago, but fan outcry (and a bump in ratings) has them reconsidering the decision, with sources saying it’s now got a 50/50 shot at coming back.

-The Good Place creator Mike Schur hasn’t given any interviews about the most recent season — until now.

-I have been following this guy’s tweets for a month now and they are a consistent source of delight! His mom recently passed away and when he looked at her Kindle he was surprised to find it filled thousands of verryyyyy risque romance novels — which he is now reading and reviewing on Twitter.

-A bunch of media sites jumped the gun this morning and broke the embargo for the new Star Trek: Picard first teaser trailer, so CBS pulled it. But it’s back online now. Showing Picard (now an admiral after quitting Starfleet dues to events 15 years prior) at his winery.

-The first official trailer for Terminator: Dark Fate has arrived. Linda Hamilton is still fierce.

Elisabeth Hasselbeck Once Stormed Off View Set After Being Reprimanded by Barbara Walters

-New audio from The View reveals that Elisabeth Hasselbeck once threatened to quit the show during a commercial break after a fight with Barbara Walters over the morning after pill. “What the f**k! I don’t even swear. She has me swearing. This woman is driving me nuts. I’m not going back. I can’t do the show like this. She just reprimanded me, and she knew exactly what she was doing. Goodbye! I’m off. Write about that in the New York F**KING Post!”

-The Handmaid’s Tale star Elisabeth Moss tells Marie Claire that’s she’s dating someone, but won’t say who. “I learned you just don’t talk about it. Who really gives a s**t whether or not I’m dating anyone? I hate to put that importance on it. I cringe a little.”

Nina Dobrev crushes Zac Efron at the gym in his new YouTube video. (Why does he work out in Cons?!)

-I love that Reese Witherspoon badly photoshopped Zoe Kravitz into her pic from the Big Little Liars set.

-This thread on how only male reviewers seem to think that Captain Marvel has no character arc is so, so good.

-Fleabag’s current season will be its last. With the end of Crazy Ex-Girlfriend and You’re The Worst this week, Broad City last week, and Jane the Virgin this summer, we’re seriously losing a lot of amazing, female-driven shows with messy protagonists.

-Does anyone else think the rumours about Fergie and Prince Andrew getting back together could just be a distraction from the juicier royal rumours circulating this week?

Judi Dench getting caught in a lie about never going to nightclubs is delightful.

-Are Chris Martin and Dakota Johnson‘s camps trying to prep us for imminent engagement news?

Charlize Theron isn’t just single, she’s “shockingly available.” (Her words.)

Samantha Bee slammed anti-vaxxers — and used a Riverdale spoof to do it.

Beyonce just signed a deal with Adias after reportedly walking out of meeting with Reebok due to a lack of diversity on their team.

Holland Taylor is playing Stormy in the To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before sequel and this is straight out of my fantasy casting.

-Speaking of fantasy casting, Kumail Nanjiani is in talks to join Angelina Jolie in The Eternals. Get that Marvel money, Kumail!

-Every time Mindy Kaling and BJ Novak hang out in public I get so hopeful!

-The reviews for Fosse/Verdon are very mixed. I’m still going to check it out.

Laura Dern seeks justice for a stranger in the Trial by Fire trailer.

Beyonce and Jay Z Show Their Support for Meghan Markle

Beyoncé and Jay-Z accepting their Brit award in front of a Meghan Markle painting is perfection. This is such a powerful but subtle way to show their support in the wake of the British press’ brutal (and often racist) coverage of her.

Serena Williams and Amal Clooney co-hosted Meghan Markle’s baby shower in NYC. This is such a power move and I adore it! She may not have royal allies but Hollywood A-list allies are showing up for her in force.

-Oh ffs. In a new podcast, Jason Reitman said “I’m not making the Juno of Ghostbusters movies…We are, in every way, trying to go back to the original technique and hand the movie back to the fans.”  What misogynist nonsense is this? How did the female reboot somehow take anything away from fans? This is playing right into the narrative of trolls who think women can’t be part of fandoms, and it’s disgusting.

-Those toxic fanboys who were littering Rotten Tomatoes with fake reviews of Captain Marvel can choke on their tears. The first screening was held for critics last night, and the initial reactions are GLOWING.

-Fox insists it has no plans to write Jussie Smollett out of Empire.

-That might change: Smollett has just officially been named a suspect in the criminal investigation into his alleged attack.

Idris Elba is going to host SNL next month and I’m HERE for it. My sister-in-law recently alerted me to his new Squarespace commercial and he plays such a good straightman opposite the hilarious Lolly Adefope. (“I was voted the Sexiest Man on Earth.” “Yeah, you’ve said that a number of times. You said it to the caterers.”)

Nina Dobrev hit back at Instagram commenters who remarked on her thin-looking frame in this photo.

Lily Colins and Noah Centineo are flirting on IG for all to see.

-I very much like this piece on Mandy Moore and how she’s become a symbol of why some women in the music industry aren’t taken seriously — and how that might change.

-I love Lizzo so much and this tweet about Shawn Mendes confirms it.

Channing Tatum and Jessie J are still dating. Huh.

-I don’t know why I read the Academy voter secret ballot interviews because they always make me so angry! Today’s is the worst. On best short doc nominee Period. End of Sentence, he said: “It’s well done, but it’s about women getting their period, and I don’t think any man is voting for this film because it’s just icky for men.” F**kkkkkkk youuuuuuu.

-The Oscars are only four(!) days away, and it sounds like a mess. They’re still figuring out how to keep it under three hours, and they’re shooting down rumours that Whoopi is secretly preparing to host. After Dwayne Johnson rejected the host offer, they even considered a different host for each hour of the telecast but now it seems like they’ve ended up with … no one?

-People can’t even figure out the frontrunners for the Best Picture race . I’m still assuming it’ll go to Roma, but for the first time ever, all the guilds (which are good predictors) chose a different winner.

-Speaking of the guilds, here’s Chelsea Peretti’s hilarious monologue at the Writers Guild Awards. “The writers of The Good Place took an unbelievable premise like Kristen Bell being friends with a black person and they turned it into an amazing show.”

-I definitely agree with this take on how The Good Place needs to set an end date.

-I don’t want this for Chris Hemsworth.

-I’m very glad that someone is asking the hard questions about Lucas Hedges‘ GQ cover interview. What kind of high school assigned students to see him in a middle-school play?!

Kevin Costner and Woody Harrelson play police officers who come out of retirement to catch Bonnie & Clyde in The Highwaymen trailer.
