Lizzo Is an Entertainer of the Year

succession regina king ew

EW’s Entertainers of the Year include LizzoAwkwafina, Renée Zellweger, Regina King, Taika Waititi and the cast of Succession.  I love how everyone is lusting over the Jeremy Strong pic. I don’t see it as Kendall but his real life photo shoots bring a whole other energy. Also, Sarah Snook talks in her adorable real accent in the video and she so wonderfully perky and un-Shiv-like.

-Time also named Lizzo the entertainer of the year. My Spotify Wrapped rankings would agree.

-Well, it now makes more sense why Justin Timberlake broke his silence on the affair rumours long after the story had died down. According to Us Weekly, “Jessica encouraged Justin to put out his statement on Instagram because she felt embarrassed by his actions and wanted him to take accountability.” People is quoting a source who says Jessica will stand by her man: “Obviously Justin drank too much this time, but Jessica believes he didn’t cheat on her. What’s most important to her in life is her family and being the best mom to Silas. She’ll never break up her family over something like this.”

-Meanwhile, Bette Midler wants Justin Timberlake to publicly apologize to Janet Jackson. Don’t we all?

-In the Hollywood Reporter, Reese Witherspoon addresses the backlash over her sizeable paycheque for Apple’s The Morning Show. “I guarantee these companies are real smart, and if they agree to pay us, they’re doing it for a reason. They probably had a lot of lawyers and a lot of business people decide on that number because they knew that they were going to make more than that back. Does it bother people when Kobe Bryant or LeBron James make their contract?”

-The SAG nominations were announced today. It’s insane that Knives Out isn’t nominated for ensemble cast, but good on the cast of Parasite for making the cut (I finally saw that movie and holy s%$# it’s amazing).

Harvey Weinstein and his former studio have a tentative $25 million deal with his accusers. Weinstein, accused of offenses ranging from sexual harassment to rape, won’t have to apologize, admit wrongdoing or pay his own money.

-How did I miss all the GIFs of Aaron Taylor-Johnson’s penis this week? (NSFW, obvs)

-As we recover from the first half of the CW crossover (which just isn’t as fun as they usually are, right?) here’s the first trailer for the CW’s newest superhero show Stargirl, starring Luke Wilson.

-Look, I don’t even go here but why is the Star Wars cast shading Rian Johnson and The Last Jedi? He did what he had to do.

-Holy cow the trailer for Promising Young Woman, starring Carey Mulligan, looks amazing! It costars Connie Britton, Molly Shannon, Alison Brie, Adam Brody and Max Greenfield.

Beyonce Takes Questions from Fans

Beyonce-Elle-January-Cover

Beyonce did an interview! Kinda! She answered questions in Elle that were sent in via email and social media. And she almost certainly answered them via email. Ok, so not really an interview at all then but still! Beyonce speaks! The topics range from everything from shopping at Target to giving to charities to surviving miscarriages.

-People are really upset that Lizzo showed off her butt at the Lakers game with a thong dress. I mean, it got her name trending just as she was dropping a new video so good on her?

Chrissy Teigen did an impromptu Twitter Q&A session and she was remarkably candid about celeb life, opening up about hired help, free clothing, secret social accounts, paparazzi and more.

Daisy Ridley is getting a lot of (justified) flack for her obliviousness and confusion when an interviewer asked her about her privilege.

-The Golden Globes are always dumb but this morning’s nominations were especially dumb. No women were nominated for best director or screenplay. On the TV side, they somehow loved The Morning Show and Catch-22 but shut out Watchmen, Veep, Barry, When They See Us and Schitt’s Creek. A huge surprise was Cats getting shut out of the major categories even though the HFPA screened it — and it seemed like the perfect film for the Golden Globes.

-I watched A Marriage Story and while I refuse to get sucked into the ‘whose side was it on?’ conversation, I can wholeheartedly say that my favourite bit was this Merritt Wever scene: part 1, part 2.

Miley Cyrus, who’s in the middle of getting a divorce from Liam Hemsworth, got a new tattoo that says “Freedom.”

-God bless Pajiba for reminding us all of the time Adrien Brody bought a castle for Elsa Pataky, then they did a 35-page spread exclusive for Hello! about it, then she dumped him for Chris Hemsworth.

-The Atlanta Journal-Constitution is asking the filmmakers behind Richard Jewell to release a statement acknowledging it took dramatic license when it portrayed their journalist Kathy Scruggs as trading sex for scoops. I’m actually surprised that Olivia Wilde, who plays the late Scruggs, has been defending the movie’s use of this tired, terrible trope, seeing as she’s the daughter of two journalists.

-Say what you will about Ryan Reynolds (and ohh boy, I have) but he sure knows how to capitalize on a social media trend. His gin company hired the Peloton commercial wife for their latest ad.

-Meanwhile, Ryan is stuck in a video game in the first trailer for Free Guy.

-The Wonder Woman 1984 trailer has arrived and it’s glorious.

Cardi B Talks Farts and Family with Vogue

Cardi B did 73 Questions with Vogue, and she really takes you on a journey. Culture somehow manages to stay sleeping during the whole thing while her mom talks about smelling her own farts, meeting Beyonce, loving Offset‘s penis, and her questions for Trump. It’s shot at her grandmother’s apartment in NYC, which is by far the most normal-looking place that Vogue has every done one of these.

-Sources say Brad Pitt and Arrested Development star Alia Shawkat are not dating. Wait, was that even a possibility?!

Pete Davidson and Kaia Gerber were spotted kissing in public. Not enough people are talking about the fact that he is a grown ass 26 year old and she *just* turned 18.

Helena Bonham Carter is on a promo tour for the new season of The Crown, and it’s been an absolute delight. On Colbert, she spilled the tea on her co-stars including Colin Firth (“talks too much”), Rihanna (“could never understand a word she said”) and Sacha Baron Cohen (“he has emotional issues”).

-The Grammy nominations are out. It was a good morning for Lizzo, Billie Eillish, Lil Nas X and Bon Iver. Not so much for Taylor Swift, Halsey, Solange Knowles, The Jonas Brothers and BTS.

-After that sinking ship of an interviewPrince Andrew says he’s quitting public life ‘for the foreseeable future’ amid the Epstein scandal. “It has become clear to me over the last few days that…my former association with Jeffrey Epstein has become a major disruption to my family’s work.”

-Meanwhile, People decided the best royal angle for their latest cover story is the William and Harry rift. Sure, Jan.

Emilia Clarke says on the Game of Thrones set, Jason Momoa made sure directors didn’t take advantage of her during nude scenes and made sure she always had a robe between setups. “It’s only now that I realize how fortunate I was with that…because Jason had experience, he had done a bunch of stuff before coming on to this, he was like, ‘Sweetie, this is how it’s meant to be and this is how it’s not meant to be, and I’m going to make sure that’s the way it goes.”

-The Harriet screenwriter says a movie exec once suggested Julia Roberts should play Harriet Tubman. (Somewhere out there Scarlett Johansson is wondering why they didn’t think of her.)

Robert Pattinson said he would pass the time in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia shooting The Lighthouse by reading sex shop Yelp reviews. “There were two pretty highly frequented sex shops…So many people would write about it and this is a town of maybe 400 people — well, maybe a little more than 400. But I could meet these people in the local shop if I wanted to.”

-He’s fresh off the disaster that was Lucy in the Sky, but Noah Hawley someone still managed to land a deal to write and direct the next Star Trek movie.

-In the latest Actors on Actors interview, Florence Pugh and Beanie Feldstein bond over Lizzie McGuire and That’s So Raven.

-Oof. I like a lot of Mimi Leder‘s work (she exec produced The Leftovers) but her dismal of the critical reception of The Morning Show is way off. “I thought there were a lot of Apple haters who just wanted Apple to fail. The reviews felt like an attack on Apple.” That would only make sense if critics panned all Apple shows, but every TV writer I follow seems to be in love with Dickinson.

Jennifer Lopez will be hosting SNL in December (yay!), as will Scarlett Johansson (boo!).

-Um, is Harrison Ford doing a dog movie?!? (I know it’s based on Jack London’s book, but it’s still a goddamn dog movie.)
