Shawn Mendes Addresses Sexuality, Hailey Baldwin

-In his new Rolling Stone cover story, Shawn Mendes says his relationship with Hailey Baldwin wasn’t as platonic as he first implied. “I don’t even want to put a title on it. I think it was more of a zone of limbo…She’s still one of the f–king coolest people ever — she’s not just a beautiful person visually, but she’s one of the most beautiful hearts I’ve ever met.” He also talks about how the gay rumours stress him out, and how he watching his interviews to analyze his voice and his body language: “In the back of my heart, I feel like I need to go be seen with someone — like a girl — in public, to prove to people that I’m not gay. Even though in my heart I know that it’s not a bad thing. There’s still a piece of me that thinks that. And I hate that side of me.” Ugh. Leave the poor kid alone.

-We truly are living in a golden age of celebrity profiles. This feature on Lena Dunham by Allison P. Davis is breathtakingly good.  I didn’t really think I’d want to read anything more about her, but this is not a fawning, laudatory profile. Davis goes deep (addressing the frequent criticisms thrown Dunham’s way, the rumours that she is a bad pet owner, her stumbles over race, etc), and the result is an article that makes you both sympathize with her as you’re rolling your eyes at her. My fave part: “As she texts me increasingly intimate details that she knows I’ll put in this article, as if she were trying to be the director of her own candid, sympathy-generating magazine story, I begin to wonder if Lena Dunham, the performance artist daring us to hate her, is the work.”

–Meek Mills penned a powerful op-ed on prisoner rights reform for the NYT.

–Amanda Bynes is on the cover of Paper and seems to be doing legitimately well, which makes me happy. She talks about fighting to cast Channing Tatum in She’s The Man, and admits her drug use started by getting hooked on Adderall because she’d read in a magazine that it keeps you skinny.

-I do not understand how the US just had the largest Thanksgiving box office on record, and yet Widows flopped. It’s so, so good!

-This is sad: Oprah‘s mom died on Thanskgiving at 83.

–Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas‘ pre-wedding festivities have begun.

-I’m actually surprised it took this long for the ‘is Green Book woke enough?’ thinkpieces to come out.

-No, Rihanana. No!

-Also, here’s our first peek at Rihanna and Donald Glover‘s mystery project “Guava Island.”

-The conscious uncoupling is still going strong. Dakota Johnson spent Thanksgiving with Chris Martin and Gwyneth Paltrow and their kids.

-Ooh boy, Amber Heard‘s outfit at the Aquaman premiere was a bit too on the nose.

-Meanwhile, I’m pleasantly shocked that the initial reaction to Aquaman from critics is so overwhelmingly positive.

-I don’t know how I keep falling for these Zac Efron thirst traps but I really don’t hate them…

–Guillermo del Toro shared on Twitter a massive list of screenplays he’s been working on that still haven’t been produced.

-This woman’s fake missed connection about Michael B Jordan is going viral and I’m so proud of her!

–Chris Pine and Patty Jenkins‘ TNT miniseries I Am the Night will be released in January.

Rihanna Turns Down Super Bowl in Support of Colin Kaepernick

-This is amazing: Rihanna was reportedly offered the Super Bowl halftime show and she declined it in support of Colin Kaepernick. (Also, is anyone else addicted to her makeup tutorials? Just me?)

–Avril Lavigne talks about how serious her struggle with Lyme Disease was in her new Billboard cover story. “I was in bed for f***ing two years. I had accepted that I was dying.”

–Justin Bieber and Hailey Baldwin have yet to hold a formal ceremony to celebrate their status as husband and wife, but they’re sure acting married.

–John Krasinski reviewed all of the best pranks he and Jimmy Kimmel have every played on each other — and then surprised Jimmy with a new one.

-Also appearing on Kimmel was Cardi B, who revealed that labour was a real eye-opener for her. “She broke my vagina. Why nobody tells you about those things? Nobody told me they were gonna stitch my vagina. People just be like, ‘Oh, you know, when you give birth, it’s gonna hurt.’ But nobody tells you [that].”

–Bella Thorne has 19(!) cats — and a dog named Tampon.

–Lena Dunham and Jenni Konner‘s Lenny Letter website is reportedly is shutting down tomorrow. It’s too bad; I subscribed to their newsletter and some of their content was pretty great.

–Jada Pinkett Smith and Leah Remini put aside their differences about Scientology in an upcoming episode of Smith’s Red Table Talk

–David Beckham happened to mention that marriage can be hard work so the divorce rumours are back in overdrive.

-Netflix says more than 80 millions subscribers watched their romcoms this summer. I always side-eye Netflix’s reports about how much their original content is viewed (what’s a “watch”? 30 seconds? The full movie?), but I dig that they  singled out To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before as one of its most viewed original films ever with strong repeat viewing. I only account for about 127 of those…

-Speaking of Netflix’s original romcoms, they just set a release date for the sequel to A Christmas Prince. Here for it.

-Two of the women who exposed Louis C.K.’s harassment have no time for his whining.

–Kristen Bells says she uses Snow White to teach her kids about consent (“Don’t you think that it’s weird that the prince kisses Snow White without her permission?”).

–Mark Ruffalo continues to be really good at Twitter.

-Speaking of Ruffalo, he will play twins in the HBO adaptation of Wally Lamb’s novel I Know This Much Is True, a book I read a million years ago but I think I liked? Maybe?

–Rachel Bloom created three shorts about rape culture.

-Oof, the Jake Gyllenhaal interview story that Lainey tells her her latest podcast does NOT make him come off well.

–Jason Blum has apologized (quite well, I think) for his blunder when asked about hiring female directors. Meanwhile, here’s a list of 10 kickasss directors he could turn to.

-Game of Thrones star Sophie Turner inspires the invention of time travel in the trailer for the romcom Time Freak.

Gillian Anderson Gets A Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame

–Gillian Anderson got a star on the Walk of Fame, which was attended by Joel McHale, Brian Fuller and Annabeth Gish.  David Duchovny didn’t attend — but he did send a very sweet tweet.

–Jennifer Lawrence posted a very cute video on Facebook with Emma Stone explaining why they didn’t end up at Golden Globes after-parties.

-I love that Meghan Markle continues to wear Canadian designers. She stepped out in an amazing Smythe coat today.

–Selena Gomez just did a big Instagram purge and now only follows 37 people. Sorry, you didn’t make the cut.

–Jamie Bell says he and Kate Mara had a low-key wedding at their neighbour’s house. “We just walked back across the street and came home.”

-It’s over for Lena Dunham and Jack Antonoff. The couple called it quits after dating for more than 5 years. (Not a surprise to those who follow blind items.)

-Meanwhile, Tessa Thompson walked back her comments about Lena Dunham’s lack of involvement in #TimesUp (though she probably shouldn’t have).

-I’m really impressed by Emma Watson, who listened to criticism of her white feminism and made an effort to be better.

-There’s lots of talk about Harper’s Bazaar prepping a cover story that will out the woman who created the underground “Shitty Media Men” list. This is a really, really bad idea that puts a target on a woman’s back for merely trying to protect other women. Let’s hope there’s enough outcry before the print deadline for them to change their mind.

-As James Franco was voicing his support for #TimesUp backstage at the Globes, two women were accusing him of sexual misconduct on Twitter. This is the same guy who had to use a morning talk show appearance to awkwardly explain why he attempted to use social media get a 17 year old to go to his hotel room.

-By all accounts, the first two episodes of the Roseanne reboot that were made available to critics are excellent. Also by all accounts, the panel at the TCAs was incredibly awkward.

-I love that Netflix’s The End of the F***ing World is getting such great reviews. I really enjoyed that show (and not just because each episode came in around 20 minutes).

-This is a first: Netflix is shopping around BoJack Horseman’s rerun rights to traditional broadcasters.

-I’m looking forward to Jason Katims‘ new show Rise, but it’s not cool that he changed the lead character from gay (in the book) to straight to help him connect with the story. This is why we need more diverse writers rooms.

-The final trailer for Black Panther is out, and it looks amazing.
