Hamilton Rules The Tony Awards (and The World)

-Thanks to Hamilton, the Tony Awards delivered their best overnight ratings in 15 years. I’m still not sure why they chose to sing “Yorktown” instead of, say, “Wait for It,” but the Ham performance was still amazing, as was Lin-Manuel Miranda’incredible speech-sonnet.

-Speaking of Hamilton, this is the best story about it I’ve ever read. And it’s on a sporting website. I don’t understand life.

-The Tony red carpet was all about yellow, floral prints, and Keri Russell‘s insane post-baby body. Seriously, she had a baby like, 9 minutes ago!

-Meanwhile, the best bits of the Tonys seemed to happen during the commercial breaks, like when Jake Gyllenhaal, Sean Hayes, and James Corden sang ‘A Whole New World.”

-This is a great deep dive into the behind-the-scenes workings on the UnREAL set, including the creator’s clashes with exec producer Marti Noxon, and the network’s insistence the show bring Jeremy back for season 2.

-This rumour was shot down earlier this year, but now it’s been confirmed: Nicole Kidman will star in the second season of Top of the Lake.

-This is a few weeks old but I missed it somehow: Natalie Morales awesomely reacted to The Grinder’s cancellation by Snapchatting herself sneaking onto the set and stealing stuff.

Adele told the music producer who speculated that her recorded voice is manipulated to “suck my dick.” Bless.

-Crazy Ex-Girlfriends’ Rachel Bloom gets her “Teenage Dream” on in this new clip from Lip Sync Battle.

-Aw nuts. It looks like Amy Schumer and Tig Notaro are not friends IRL — despite what Schumer may think.

Louis CK finally addressed that Gawker report that he harasses female comedians — by completely blowing it off. *sigh*
-Niceness in the midst of sadness: Adam Levine has offered to pay for Voice contestant Christina Grimmie’s funeral expenses.

-The perks of having Thom Yorke as a neighbour: he’ll performs an acoustic set at your garden party.

-Don’t mind me; I’m just crying over these Friday Night Lights reunion photos.

-It sounds like the ‘bury your tropes’ panel at ATX festival was problematic. The guy from The 100 and the woman from The Originals seem woke (and she followed up the panel with a great FB post), but some of the other panelists comments are troublesome. I’m so done with the ‘be grateful for what you get or you’ll get even less’ arguments.

-Why yes, I *would* like to watch Ugly Betty’s ATX reunion panel!

-Scary: a seizure reportedly force Lil Wayne to make an emergency landing.

-This year, the film industry is on pace to sell the fewest U.S. tickets per person of any year since perhaps before the 1920s and the fewest total tickets in two decades. It doesn’t help that streaming services are putting out the most interesting stuff, like this new feature starring Jason Segel and Rooney Mara.

-How is the plot of the new Harry Potter play not a joke? No, really.

-The first round of Emmy voting is now open, meaning we can all scan the Emmy ballot and see which episodes the actors and shows submit for consideration, which is always fascinating. The most head-scratching category this year is the writing one, in which my fave shows submitted a lot of my non-fave episodes. Does The Good Wife seriously think they’re putting their best foot forward with that terrible finale? Or “Canary Cry” on Arrow? Or “Babylon” on The X Files? Even The Americans’ choice to only submit their finale is odd; as amazing at it was, it didn’t compare to the one when Martha runs away or the one when Nina [redacted].

Disney’s Moana trailer is all about The Rock’s eyebrows.

-I’m getting behind this new Game of Thrones theory (especially since the author’s Arya theory mostly panned out last night).

-Allow John Oliver to explain everything that’s wrong with your retirement plan.

The Americans’ Keri Russell and Matthew Rhys Welcome Baby

-Congrats to The Americans costars Keri Russell and Matthew Rhys, who just welcomed their first child together.

-I was on vacation last week so I was not following the Johnny Depp/Amber Heard drama too closely, but every time I looked at Twitter I was disheartened by all the Amber bashing. We don’t know what really happened, but the knee-jerk reaction of the internet to jump to a male star’s defense is weird (maybe because my gut instinct is to always give the person with bruises on her face the benefit of the doubt?). She did everything an abused woman is encouraged to do — and yet the hate is strong.

-Meanwhile, Johnny’s ex Vanessa Paradis and daughter Lily-Rose have both jumped to his defense.

-In today’s ‘I don’t know how they’re friends’ edition: Charlize Theron co-hosted Emily Blunt’s baby shower.

-Shocking report: Matt LeBlanc reportedly doesn’t make a very good Top Gear host.

-Another shocking report: Chelsea Handler may not be the easiest person to work for.

George and Amal Clooney met Pope Francis at the Vatican because they’re fancy like that.

-‘Which costar would you ask to bail you out if arrested?’ is a really great interview question.

BJ Novak says Mindy Kalling used to lie to him constantly on the set of The Office just for fun. I knew I liked her.

Aisha Tyler’s latest Guy on Girl podcast with Viola Davis is fantastic!

-I was really looking forward to seeing John Carney’s new movie Sing Street because I adore Once and Begin Again, but now I’m glad I haven’t gotten around to it yet after reading his comments slamming Keira Knightley. Why is he even bringing her up in interviews? They haven’t worked together for three years. Also, I saw the TIFF premiere of Begin Again with the cast/director Q&A following the film, and Adam Levine as “unpretentious” and Keira as the diva was NOT the impression I was left with.

-Oh jeez. Jesse Eisenberg just confirmed that he’ll play Lex Luthor in another movie.

-I don’t watch Silicon Valley, but I’ve got no problem watching T.J. Miller hurl insults for nearly five minutes straight.

-Congrats to Topher Grace, who married Ashley Hinshaw in a private ceremony yesterday. Wait, isn’t that the girl from True Blood?

John Oliver‘s “how is this not a thing?” segment is fantastic. Now I need a universal safe word for getting out of small talk, bread pants, and a way to wink without looking like you’re proposing a threesome.

Dan Aykroyd loves the new Ghostbusters reboot, which is high praise seeing as the idea for Ghostbusters came from him and he remains the one who’s been trying to keep the franchise alive the hardest all this time.

-I love how Adele called people out for filming her in concert by saying “I’m really here in real life. You can enjoy it in real life, rather than through your camera.”

-The trailer for the Netflix original movie The Fundamentals Of Caring has landed — and it looks great. Paul Rudd, Selena Gomez and Jennifer “Elizabeth Bennet” Ehle. Here for it!

Keri Russell Expecting Costar’s Baby

Keri Russell and Matthew Rhys in The Americans (FX)

-The Americans costars Keri Russell and Matthew Rhys have a new mission: parenthood! Now I REALLY wish that show was nominated for stuff this award season, just for the red carpet potential! (Well, not *just*. That show was on my Best TV of 2015 list.)

-This is gold: Vulture got two dialect coaches to rank the American accents of TV’s foreign actors.

Jennifer Garner is turning the tables and I freakin’ love it.

-This Honest Trailer proves that The Martian is just another “save Matt Damon” movie, but in space.

-Get that Disney moneyLupita Nyong’o. Get it good!

Ice Cube, Kevin Hart and Conan O’Brien tried to teach a student driver the rules of the road. Their rules are very, very bad.

Amy Schumer has a new boyfriend and the internet has already fallen in love with him.

-Making a Murderer’s Steven Avery filed papers claiming his brother Charles may have been responsible for the murder. Charles? If anyone seems shady in that family to me, it’s Scott.

-iZombie’s committment to turning the show into a full-blown Veronica Mars reunion continues!

Channing Tatum got a Magic Mike lap dance from his wife Jenna Dewan-Tatum. #RelationshipGoals

-Scandal’s Tony Goldwyn unpacks a sex scene.

Eddie Redmayne campaigns for an Oscar pays fans’ rent for them.

John Krasinski says wife Emily Blunt “hates” his new muscles and she’d prefer to have her “doughy guy back.” So  she doesn’t want him? **raises hand**

-Grease Live just cast Boyz II Men as its Teen Angels and I kind of love it.

-During their shows’ winter breaks, the CW is posting some adorable trivia clips with their casts. The Flash one is cute, but I kind of want to live inside the Jane the Virgin one.

-Star Wars: The Force Awakens is now the highest-grossing film in U.S. history, surpassing Avatar.

-Lots of good TV renewals were announced today at the TCA, including Broad City, Younger and Inside Amy Schumer. Also, the Broad City gals got a new show about a magical, time-traveling bong. So…yeah.

-Based on this trailer, I am so down for Baz Luhrmann and Shawn Ryan‘s new Netflix musical, The Get Down.
