-The May Beauty issue of Harper’s Bazaar features Precious Lee (photographed by Renell Medrano) and Hailey Bieber (photographed by Amy Troost).

-In case you missed the Oscars last night (and judging by the ratings, many of you did), the biggest clips to watch are Daniel Kaluuya’s mom and sister reacting to the part of his speech where he said “Life’s incredible! My mom met my dad. They had sex. It’s amazing!”, Glenn Close knowing the moves to “Da Butt”, and Yuh-Jung Yoon starting her acceptance speech by addressing her presenter (and Minari producer) Brad Pitt with “Mr. Brad Pitt, finally. Nice to meet you. Where were you when we were filming in person?”

-The weirdest thing about the ceremony (besides it starting strong and then limping to the finish), was that they didn’t announce the Best Picture winner last like usual. Instead, that honour went to Best Actor — who turned out to be Anthony Hopkins, who didn’t show up. The theory is the producers assumed Chadwick Boseman would win posthumously and the show would end on an emotional high, but instead it came to an abrupt and anticlimactic finish that seemed to undercut Nomadland’s historic Best Picture win.

–Hopkins released a belated acceptance speech that tribute to Boseman. Apparently, Olivia Colman was meant to accept Hopkins’ award for Best Actor if he won — and everyone is blaming Joaquin Phoenix for instead saying “we accept the award on his behalf” and shutting it down.

–Another weird decision was to barely show any clips of the nominated films and performances. It felt like the wrong move, especially since most of these films have been barely seen by the general public. I’m sure if they had shown a clip when Sound of Metal won for Best Sound, for example, it would have intrigued people enough to seek it out.

-Fashion-wise, my pick for best dressed was Zendaya, with Regina King coming in a close second. 9-year-old Minari actor Alan Kim also got points for channeling David Rose.

–Aaron Sorkin attended the Oscars with 80s model Paulina Porizkova, sparking dating rumours.

-The Daily Mail has the first photos of Pete Davidson with Bridgerton star Phoebe Dynevor. Looks like they’re bonding over groceries and hideous style.

-The filmmakers behind the Framing Britney Spears documentary have now set their sights on Janet Jackson’s Super Bowl fiasco. Justice for Janet!

-Over 30 former employees at Scott Rudin‘s production company spoke to Vulture and described a workplace of relentless abuse, intimidation, and bullying.

-SNL announced that Elon Musk would be hosting on May 8, and the reaction was immediately negative. Even cast members Bowen Yang and Andrew Dismukes appeared to throw shade at the announcement.

-The finale for The Falcon and the Winter Solider was not great, huh?

-Ellen DeGeneres is mocking the NFT trend by trying to sell a selfie of her holding original artwork of a cat, which she’s calling “Woman With Stick Cat,” but you just know it’ll fetch buckets of money. At least she’s donating it to Chef José Andrés’ World Central Kitchen.

-Here’s the first trailer for Hulu’s Nine Perfect Strangers, adapted from the book by Big Little Lies author Liane Moriarty. It stars Nicole Kidman, Melissa McCarthy, Bobby Cannavale, Manny Jacinto, Regina Hall and Michael Shannon.

-Netflix released the trailer for season three of Master of None, which focuses on Denise (Lena Waithe) and her relationship with Alicia (Naomi Ackie).

-The first trailer for Steven Spielberg’s remake of West Side Story, starring Ansel Elgort as Tony and Rachel Zegler as Maria, has arrived.

–Jennifer Lopez’s Instyle cover features quotes about her from a ton of costars and celebrities (though, noticeably, nothing from A-Rod). Among the famous friends singing her praises are Charlize Theron (“To call her a triple threat doesn’t come close to describing her—she’s all of the threats!”), Michelle Obama (“What impresses me the most about her is her unwavering commitment to leverage those gifts and use her platform to give voice to the voiceless”), Matthew McConaughey (“Extremely deliberate, intentional, fully choreographed, and self-aware, she even knows how to make accidents look like accidents”), and — most hilariously — Ben Affleck (“Where are you keeping the fountain of youth? Why do you look the same as you did in 2003 and it kind of looks like I’m in my 40s…at best?”).

-It’s Thandiwe, Not Thandie. Thandiwe Newton reclaimed her name in British Vogue, explaining the “w” was left out in her first acting credit and it stuck. “That’s my name. It’s always been my name. I’m taking back what’s mine.”

-I don’t know if I’m just getting used to the at-home fashions or if stars/stylists are really learning how to bring it, but the SAG Awards outfits were some of the best we’ve seen in ages.

-Last night’s SAG Awards marked the first time in its history that all four film acting categories went to actors of color. It also revealed how wide open the Oscar race really is. Is this what it looks like when stars can’t campaign? I love it!

-Rapper DMX overdosed on Friday night which triggered a heart attack, and the prognosis is not looking good.

–Regé-Jean Page will not be returning for Bridgerton season two, saying he was only contracted for a one-season arc. I mean, he’s right, and I don’t think it’s as big of a deal as people seem to be making it out to be. The second season follows the second book, which means the main focus was always going to be on Anthony and Kate, so Simon and Daphne would be pushed to the background regardless. A couple of cameos would have been nice (especially in the Pall Mall scene), but I hope his absence doesn’t keep people away from the show. Not only will this season focus on the book series’ BEST couple, it will be led by an openly gay actor and a British-Indian actress — and that’s pretty effing boss.

–Apple Martin roasts her mom Gwyneth Paltrow‘s morning routine in a new TikTok: “She just prances around the bathroom putting on her millions of Goop glow products…Then she gets to working making some more vagina eggs and vagina candles and vagina perfumes. Just everything vagina.”

-In a new video on her YouTube page, Hailey Bieber chats with a psychologist about the negative effects of social media on mental health.

-Reviews for HBO’s The Nevers suggest the show requires some benefit-of-the-doubt. It’ll be interesting to see what the next batch of episodes looks like since Joss Whedon left the show, because according to Variety, in its current state it “bears so many of his narrative and stylistic hallmarks that it might as well be playing Whedon Bingo.”

-One of the only shows I’m currently watching right now, Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist, has pretty much lost me. This week’s episode was especially rough.

–Armie Hammer has departed The Minutes, a Broadway play which was originally set to debut last year and is now on track to resume production during the 2021-2022 season.

–Jamie Kennedy did not seem prepared to be grilled about his role in an anti-abortion movie.

–Scarlett Johansson and Colin Jost popped up on RuPaul’s Drag Race to offer advice.

-The final Black Widow trailer arrived this weekend.

-The biggest buzzed Marvel trailer right now is the new one that dropped today for the Loki series on Disney+, which is coming this summer. It looks really, really good.

 

Armie Hammer Accused of Rape

-The media’s focus on Armie Hammer‘s alleged kinks and cannibalism comments have seemed to overshadow the more serious allegations about abuse and lack of consent. That might change now that the woman allegedly behind the House of Effie Instagram account, (which was the first to share anonymous allegations against the actor) officially accused him of rape and physical abuse during a 2017 encounter. In a press conference today alongside attorney Gloria Allred, she said “Armie Hammer violently raped me for over four hours in Los Angeles, during which he repeatedly slammed my head against a wall, bruising my face. He also committed other acts of violence against me to which I did not consent. For example, he beat my feet with a crop so they would hurt with every step I took for the next week. During those four hours, I tried to get away but he wouldn’t let me. I thought that he was going to kill me. He then left with no concern for my well-being.”

–Hammer‘s lawyer denied the rape allegation and maintained that his relationship with the woman was “completely consensual, discussed and agreed upon in advance, and mutually participatory.” He also added, “It was never Mr. Hammer’s intention to embarrass or expose her fetishes or kinky sexual desires,” because why not add some shaming?

–Hailey Bieber is on the April cover of Elle, and talks about wanting privacy when she first married Justin Bieber. “I just wanted to hide. I was like, ‘I don’t want people so in my business. I feel like everybody’s up my ass.’ I was like, ‘Can there be no anonymity? Can I have any of it back?'”

-Wait, so Billie Eilish has been wearing a wig? It must be a good one.

–Ralph Fiennes came to J.K. Rowling’s defense, because I guess he doesn’t care about being liked or admired.

-Oof, this interview with writers on crime shows is a brutal read. “We had a quote wall in a writers’ meeting. Every writer would come along with ideas, someone always suggested a character get raped. I said, ‘The thing is, that character’s already been raped.’ There was this big silence, and my boss said, “When was she last raped?” Sexual violence, violence against women, was the go-to for creating any drama. And it went on the quote wall: ‘When was she last raped?'”

-Welp. Kanye West is reportedly worth $6.6 billion. I wonder if that will change the divorce settlement?

-She’s All That’s Rachael Leigh Cook and Vampire Diaries’ Daniel Gillies are officially divorced.

-Meanwhile, the gender-flipped reimagining of She’s All That is coming to Netflix.

-In THR’s new cover story, screenwriters, news anchors, celebrities and more reflect on a year since Hollywood entered lockdown.

-Because nothing is ever over in Hollywood, A Time to Kill sequel with Matthew McConaughey is in the works at HBO as a limited series.

-The Good Place’s William Jackson Harper and You’re The Worst Aya Cash‘s new rom-com We Broke Up will premiere in theaters and on demand next month.
