Rachel Zegler Isn’t Going to the Oscars

-West Side Story lead Rachel Zegler revealed via Instagram that she would be watching the Oscars telecast from home because she isn’t invited to the ceremony. There was immediate shock and outrage directed at the Academy, but this theory that it’s probably Disney’s call makes more sense to me.

-Meanwhile, we are heading into what is shaping up to be the most chaotic Oscar ceremony in recent memory. There are so many huge categories (including Best Picture, Adapted Screenplay and Actress) that still seem to be totally up for grabs.

-The Best Picture category previously looked to be a toss up between Power of the Dog and Belfast, but CODA has picked up some serious steam in the last week or two. (I personally really liked that movie, but this thread about how it minimizes deaf competence is worth reading.)

Elon Musk and James Franco will reportedly testify on Amber Heard’s behalf when Johnny Depp’s defamation lawsuit heads to trial next month.

Jodie Turner-Smith’s posted some bts pics of her and Joshua Jackson prepping for the Critics Choice Awards and oh my god that naked one!

-I almost forgot that 41-year-old Jake Gyllenhaal was dating a 25-year-old model but then he took her to the Ambulance premiere in Paris.

-I love that People paid for Jonathan Bennett‘s wedding photos. Get that money, sirs.

-Legendary TV and film creator/director Edward Zwick has been posting Twitter threads on famous people he’s worked with, and his remembrance of Brad Pitt on Legends of the Fall is worth your time.

-I’m a little bummed about the reviews of season two of Bridgerton. They’re still mostly positive (with some critics saying it’s better than season one), but there’s a lot of complaints about its wonky pacing and lack of sex. It sounds like the latter comes from the show’s mix of Covid protocols and being embarrassed by its horny reputation. That being said, non-book readers seem to like it more than book readers so maybe we just have to prepare for a much sloooooower burn than the novel with more angst and less sexy times.

-After a four year absence, Atlanta is back this week and reportedly better than ever.

-I know that there is too much TV to watch all of the sudden, but the reviews for Apple TV’s Pachinko, Min Jin Lee‘s generational drama about a Korean family, are insanely positive.

Oscar Isaac says the choice to give Moon Knight a British accent was his idea — which, judging by the reaction, he probably shouldn’t have admitted to.

Will Butler (Arcade Fire founding member and brother of frontman Win) has left the band.

-HBO is adapting Canadian novel A Fine Balance by Rohinton Mistry into a TV series, and my god, I love that book so much.

Sarah Gadon and Alison Pill play sisters in the trailer for All My Puny Sorrows, an adaptation of the Miriam Toews novel.  I liked this movie a lot.

-Here’s the latest spot for Everything Everywhere All at Once.
