Alicia Silverstone Brings Back Cher Horowitz

Alicia Silverstone resurrected her Clueless character  for Lip Sync Battle at it was epic! She looks exactly the same.

-20-year-old rapper XXXTentacion died on Monday following a shooting in South Florida outside a motorcycle dealership.

-In the fallout from Chloe Dykstra‘s essay which accused an ex of emotional and sexual abuse and seemed to imply she was referring to Chris Hardwick, the Nerdist founder has pulled out of Comic Con (where he was supposed to moderate the Doctor Who panel, among other things) and AMC has put his talk show on hold (the second season was supposed to debut on Sunday night with Donald Glover as his guest). Meanwhile, over the weekend Hardwick released a statement — and it’s pretty shitty, with tinges of Gamergate and gaslighting. When he said “As a husband, a son, and future father, I do not condone any kind of mistreatment of women,” I thought, ‘oh wow, his wife is expecting?’ Turns out, NOPE! He just meant that at some point in time he may be responsible for making a girl, which means he couldn’t possibly hurt one now…or something? His repeated mentions of how Chloe cheated on him is also cringe-y. On the (very slight) plus side, his crappy statement has people talking about toxic nerd culture.

-In a new interview, Sandra Bullock says she never worked with Harvey Weinstein, but she’d certainly heard of him. “I only heard what Harvey wanted people to hear, and that made me so f**king angry…People would say, ‘Well, you know how she got that role? She f**ked Harvey.’ I would say, ‘Shut the f**k up. You don’t know that.’ Then, later, to find out that woman was brutally attacked… They didn’t sleep with Harvey. Harvey wanted you to think that.”

-The Ocean’s 8 cast was on the Graham Norton show and it was priceless, from Rihanna telling Helena Bonham Carter why she’s never been invited to the MET gala (“that’s because you wear dresses like that”), to her getting called out for stealing wine glasses from bars.

-Incredibles 2 did incredibly well at the box office this weekend, earning $180 million and breaking the record for best animated debut.

-Actress Amandla Stenberg came out as gay in a new interview for Wonderland.

-Everyone’s still buzzing about the surprise album Beyonce and Jay Z dropped this weekend. I really liked this take about how they are disrupting the very institutions that have proclaimed throughout history that people who look like them don’t belong. (I still can’t believe they shut down the Louvre to shoot a video back in May and she still kept that sh*t locked so tight there were no leaks.)

Idris Elba just dropped a teaser for the new Luther episodes. Gimmie!!

-There’s still lots of questions about what exactly Apple’s streaming TV platform is going to look like, but they continue to keep throwing money at it. They just landed Oprah!

Jon Bernthal, who starred as Shane in The Walking Dead’s first two seasons, is going to appear in an episode of the show’s next season.

-The Darlene-focused Roseanne spinoff is inching closer to reality. THR reports that Roseanne Barr has waived rights to creator fees and backend profits if the spinoff goes ahead, which means the negotiation is now over what, if any, one-time payment she should receive as “go-away money.”

-Do you think Meghan Markle gets advanced warning every time her dad gives a dumb interview? For her sake, I hope so.

-Maybe I’ve just been tainted by this Sex and The City scene, but I really don’t get why celebrities are suddenly into pear-shaped diamonds.

Ariana Grande has a song on her new album called “Pete” so…yeah.

-The MTV Movie & TV Awards red carpet was all over the place, style-wise.

-During their emotional reunion, John Cena vowed to get his vasectomy reversed so he could give Nikki Bella a kid. Look, this may all have been fake drama for wrestling, but I’ve been weirdly invested in these two ever since he kind of got teary about the breakup on the Today Show.

Kristen Bell gets dumped at the alter and ends up taking her honeymoon cruise with her estranged father (played by Kelsey Grammer) in the trailer for Netflix’s Like Father.

-Damn. Chris Hardwick  just got #MeToo’d and this one is hitting me hard. The Nerdist was the very first podcast I ever listened to and although his earnestness was slightly grating, I always thought he sounded like a good dude. Of course, my feelings don’t matter; Chloe Dystra’s does. Good on her for speaking up. Even though she never explicitly names him, it’s clear who she’s talking about and her story is incredibly disturbing. I’m so over toxic fanboys who were nerdy/bullied in high school and now feel like they’re owed something. They’re really not.

-Meanwhile, here is the Nerdist podcast in which Chloe and Chris talk about the surgery she references in her essay. It’s … not good. Start around the 1 hour, 20 min mark.

-It’ll be interesting to see what happens now. He’s been a trending topic all morning so the story keeps getting wider, but he’s scheduled to be a big part of Comic Con, including moderating the Doctor Who panel. He also has a brand new show debuting on Sunday on AMC.

-According to Gisele Bundchen‘s new Vogue cover storyTom Brady made up quite an elaborate story about her apartment flooding before asking her to marry him.

Jake Johnson is looking GOOD in GQ.

-I’m busy this weekend and Nicole is travelling for the next two, so we’ve promised not to watch the new romcom Set It Up (which stars Taye Diggs and Lucy Liu, and drops today on Netflix) until we’re together but the reviews are so good and it’s going to be SO HARD.

Chris Pratt played Box of Lies and of course, he destroyed Jimmy Fallon.

-Meanwhile, Pratt isn’t saying no to a Parks and Recs reunion.

Amy Poehler was named one of the 40 most powerful people in comedy and she epically derailed her Q&A to talk about real issues.

-Split rumors are nothing new for Will and Jada Pinkett Smith, but she wants to make one thing clear: “At the end of the day, that’s a man that can rely on me for the rest of his life, period.”

-Star Trek: Discovery has fired showrunners Gretchen Berg and Aaron Harberts, and Alex Kurtzman will take over season two. Harberts and Berg reportedly ran into budget woes and became increasingly verbally abusive to the Discovery writing staff, according to the THR story.

-Speaking of network shakeups, CBS has retained outside counsel to investigate NCIS: New Orleans’ writer-producer Brad Kern, who just got a new 2-year deal. He’ll continue to work on the show during the inquiry, which follows two CBS HR investigations of him. Insiders are reportedly angry that he’s remaining involved in the hit drama despite a new inquiry from outside counsel over claims of sexual harassment and racially-charged comments.

-I can’t wait to hear what Judith Light is going to say about Jeffrey Tambor once she’s allowed.

-I thought Tag might be a fun, mindless movie for the summer but the reviews are really not great.

-This is a good point about Brie Larson. Everyone I know who saw Unicorn Store at TIFF last year adored it.

-I would like Zazie Beetz to be in every magazine this summer. Is that possible?

-I like to read lots of light fluffy romcoms during the summer, and I’ve noticed some super weird stuff going on in my Kindle. This article on book stuffing in the romance genre was illuminating.

-This is exactly what I’ve been thinking too whenever I see someone praising Nas’ new album.

-I adore Ken Marino, but I don’t know about this dog movie he’s directing…

Drake Returns to Degrassi For His New Video

drake-degrassi

-Holy crap, am I loving Drake‘s epic Degrassi reunion in his new video. (Nina Dobrev is looking good here. I was worried for a minute there…) At first I assumed it was just really good timing on his part and couldn’t possibly be a reaction to Pusha T‘s diss track (which dropped May 29) because the timeline was too short to pull together a video like this.  But it turns out they shot it last weekend and according to this IG post it went from “concept to shoot in a week, shoot to release in four days.”  So yeah, he managed to call up his old costars and pull together the perfect response in just two weeks. Way to go, Wheelchair Jimmy!

-Stranger Things’ Millie Bobbi Brown has left social media after a fake meme about her being homophobic went viral. People are the worst.

-For the first time in years, HBO is completely skipping Comic-Con. There will be no Westworld or Game Of Thrones panels, and no activations.

Kim Kardashian and Alice Johnson sat down for a joint interview on the Today Show to talk about Johnson’s release.

Meghan Markle calls Prince Harry “the best husband ever,” continues to wear terrible pantyhose.

-She’s also reportedly happy all the wedding fuss is behind her. No doubt.

Brie Larson was on hand to announce a Sundance & TIFF iniative to allocate 20% of press credentials to underrepresented movie critics and journalists. “I do not need a 70-year-old white dude to tell me what didn’t work for him about A Wrinkle In Time.”

Rose McGowan helped bring about Harvey Weinstein‘s downfall. Now, the activist says he’s trying to take her down with him. (She may be problematic, but the felony drug charge she’s facing over a lost wallet with cocaine does indeed sound shady af).

Marc Maron, Louie Anderson, Ray Romano, Tracy Morgan, Sean Hayes and Tony Shalhoub talked about the #MeToo movement in THR’s comedy actor roundtable. I’m not overly interested in what any of these guys have to say about it, but Romano made a good point: “I don’t know how to speak to any of this, but there’s an awareness of how hard it is for women now…Yes, there are some harsh things happening and harsh judgments, but the one good thing is that we’re becoming aware of what it means when somebody, even if they don’t think they’re harassing, is crossing the boundaries a bit.”

Bill Cosby has fired his entire legal team ahead of his sentencing following his guilty verdict.

-In a new interview, R Kelly‘s ex-wife opened up about years of alleged abuse.

-A woman was granted a temporary restraining order against Chris Brown after the singer allegedly hit her. Seriously, how is he still a thing?

Nicki Minaj and Ariana Grande want to take you to “Bed” in their new single.

Here’s the video from An Evening With Female Showrunners, the highly successful event Liz Hannah organized in response to Variety’s all-male TV writers panel.

-I was reading in the newspaper this morning about how this the summer of romcoms (YASS!!!) and I don’t know how I missed that Juliet, Naked, which is one of my fave Nick Hornsby books, is being adapted into a film starring Rose Byrne, Chris O’Dowd and Ethan Hawke that’ll be out in August. How did I not know this? How is there no trailer yet?!

Chloe Grace Moretz is plagued by a mysterious illness in the Brain on Fire trailer.
