Rihanna Brightens Up British Vogue

rihanna-british-vogue

Rihanna looks fantastic on the cover of British Vogue.

-Speaking of Vogue, Beyonce is not only covering Anna Wintour‘s last Vogue issue, she’s reportedly assuming complete control.

-While the Guardians of the Galaxy cast is signing open letters in support of James Gunn, their fellow Avengers Chris Evans and Chris Hemsworth reportedly unfollowed him.

-I kind of love that this nonsensical Tom Cruise interview answer has gone viral.

-Meanwhile, Mission Impossible: Fallout launched with a series-best opening of $61.5 million.

-On Anna Faris’ latest podcast (which was taped at Comic Con), Arrow star Colton Haynes opened up about losing his mother and going through a divorce around the same time. (It’s weird that outlets are picking up that bit; I listened to that episode and I was way more interested in the part where his costar Stephen Amell admitted for the first time publicly that he was married before, said “I still fucking love my ex [wife]” and talked about how she was the most important thing that happened to him besides his daughter being born. It made me hope his current wife never hears it.)

-Speaking of podcasts, it’s super rich that Marc Maron might join the Joker cast. I was just listening to his episode with Paul Rudd and he kept inferring that Rudd just did Ant Man for the paycheck because superhero movies are dumb.

Robert Pattinson and Suki Waterhouse are dating. Huh.

Billy Talent, City & Colour, Pup and more are pulling together a benefit concert for the Danforth.

-Following an intense social media campaign by Timeless fans (who call themselves Clockblockers), NBC announced they’re wrap up the show with a two-hour movie.

Nikki Bella and John Cena have split up again: “After much time and soul-searching alone and together, we have decided to officially part ways.”

Stephen Colbert called Les Mooves “my guy” but still took him to task in last night’s monologue, while Julie Chen defended her husband on The Talk.

-Meanwhile, Meredith Vieira said “I never personally heard anything, but that means nothing. Somebody can be one way with you and very different with another person.” Which ties in perfectly with this Vox piece.

-Celebs reading mean tweets about themselves is a big thing, but I’d much prefer to watch Christine Baranski reading nice tweets people wrote about her. That last one made me a little teary.

-Literal ball of sunshine Gina Rodriguez is probably engaged.

-Well, this is depressing: An annual report shows no significant improvement in film representation of women, people of color, LBGT characters or characters with disability over the past decade.

-In her Vulture interviewKristen Bell teases The Good Place’s new season, talks about her plan for a Bad Moms sequel, and reveals what it’s like to text with Cher.

Kim Kardashian was told she looked anorexic and took it as a compliment. That’s swell.

-I love that Seth Rogen is becoming the voice of Canadian transit. First he took over for the Vancouver system when they dropped Morgan Freeman following his sexual harassment allegations, and now he’s doing Toronto’s subway announcements. This might make me 0.04% less annoyed when someone’s being scolded for blocking the doors.

Alan Alda revealed he has Parkinson’s disease in an appearance on CBS This Morning Tuesday.

-One of the biggest disappointments of the TV season was Dietland, which started out so strong but got so bad that I just stopped watching a few episodes ago. According to reviews, it didn’t rebound in this week’s finale.

-The new Venom trailer shows off much more of Tom Hardy’s take on the Marvel anti-hero. It still looks bad.

Nick Jonas and Priyanka Chopra Are Engaged

-The summer of quickie celebrity weddings continues! Nick Jonas and Priyanka Chopra are reportedly engaged after just two months of dating. And he apparently closed down Tiffany’s to get her engagement ring like he’s goddamn Patrick Dempsey or something…

-A new Ronan Farrow exposé is coming later today, and it’s set to be a biggie. CBS CEO Leslie Moonves, one of the most powerful men in Hollywood, is being accused of sexual misconduct. While THR suggests the investigation alleges unwanted kissing and touching, Farrow suggested the claims in the full story may be more explosive, tweeting: “A quick reminder that I don’t comment on reporting I haven’t published, and if you’re reading about my work from secondary sources you’re often not getting the full or correct story—especially in cases where parties have an interest in downplaying or otherwise spinning.”

Anna Wintour’s final Vogue cover will reportedly be Beyoncé, which is a pretty great way to bow out.

Roseanne Barr doubled down on her race excuse in her Hannity interview. Sigh.

-Today’s Star Wars: Episode IX cast announcement revealed that Mark Hamill would be back (did anyone doubt it?) confirms Billy Dee Williams’ return, added Richard E. Grant and Naomi Ackie to the cast, and most surprisingly, announced that it will use unreleased Carrie Fisher footage. They also didn’t mention Keri Russell, but she’s still involved.

-Los Angeles County prosecutors have concluded there is insufficient evidence to charge Gossip Girl Ed Westwick with rape stemming from those earlier allegations from three women.

Britney Spears serenaded Jimmy Fallon with “I’m Not a Girl, Not Yet a Woman” in a new episode of Ew!  She looks really, really good.

Sarah Jessica Parker sat down to chat with Gwyneth Paltrow on her podcast, in which they talked about marriage and Cynthia Nixon running for governor.

-I’m here for Ira writing a Neflix show!

-It was a good week for white actresses to be woke on Instagram. Anne Hathaway posted an impassioned response to Nia Wilson‘s murder on Wednesday (“We must ask our (white)selves- how “decent” are we really? Not in our intent, but in our actions? In our lack of action?”), and Minka Kelly defended costar Anna Diop, who left Instagram due to racists.

-The new season of Orange Is The New Black dropped today to mixed reviews.

-BBC Radio 1 canceled an interview with Logan Paul, saying it “didn’t meet our standards.” I’ve actually unfollowed Chloe Bennet on Insta because her stories are all about him cuddling her dog, and I just can’t.

-I love that everyone is pointing out that Amy Adams’ character on Sharp Objects is the worst reporter ever.

-I’m feeling Jennifer Garner‘s opinion of camping in the trailer for her upcoming HBO comedy.

Tom Cruise made James Corden jump out of a plane and this entire video is amazing. Look, if you need to skydive in order to goose your talk show’s ratings, you couldn’t ask for a better cheerleader than Cruise.

Michelle Williams Reveals She’s Married: “I Never Gave Up on Love”

michelle-williams-vanity-fair

Michelle Williams‘ new Vanity Fair cover story is very good. There is a bit of set up weirdness (the writer mocks the typical profile intro of writing about what the actress is wearing or eating — and then does it?), but the interview itself is great. Williams reveals that she recently got married (“I am finally loved by someone who makes me feel free”), reflects on the lessons she learned from her pay-gap scandal, which she credits Jessica Chastain for helping bring to light, and talks about her new TV series produced by Lin-Manuel Miranda (“When they told me about it, I thought, O.K., now comes the part where I have to go in kicking and screaming and shouting about equality and transparency…Then, before I could even ask for it, they said, ‘They’ve offered you what Sam Rockwell is making.’ I cried”).

Demi Lovato is reportedly going to rehab straight from the hospital. Thank goodness; I hope she turns it around. (Also, it’s sweet that Wilmer Valderrama visited her in the hospital.)

Jenna Dewan calls her split from Channing Tatum “a positive thing” and “the new normal” in her People profile.

-I always forgot that Beyoncé has twins. And then she posts a photo of them and I remember all over again. Every. Single. Time.

-Also, Amber Rose says Gwyneth Paltrow is the ‘Becky with the good hair’ referenced in Beyonce‘s song ‘Sorry’. WHAT.

Meghan Markle is apparently having issues with the Queen’s bedtime rule and I can’t say I blame her. (Though I think I’d have way more trouble with the ‘you can’t keep eating if the Queen has finished her meal’ rule. That’s madness.)

Karlie Kloss posted an Insta story in which she shared screenshots of famous friends like Serena Williams (but not Taylor!) reacting to news of her engagement on FaceTime, and in doing so revealed Princess Beatrice’s private account.

Penn Badgley and Shay Mitchell‘s Lifetime series You has been given an early season 2 renewal, even though the first season hasn’t started airing yet. Considering how the book ends, I don’t get what this is going to be.

-Also, Badgley’s answer to whether he’d be up for a Gossip Girl reboot? “I’d do it if I could kill them.”

-Wait, so the Buffy reboot is not a reboot after all? It’ll just be in the same universe? Why didn’t they just say that in the first place?!? All of these reboot announcements need some serious workshopping.

-It’s official! As unbelievable as this remains to me, Kristen Stewart will lead the cast of Elizabeth BanksCharlie’s Angels reboot. (Unfortunately despite early talks, Lupita Nyong’o will not be one of the angels. They will be Naomi Scott and Ella Balinska.)

-On the Tonight Show, Nanette comedian Hannah Gadsby described her awkward first encounter with Emma Thompson, which ended with them crying on each other’s shoulders and Hannah accidentally texting Emma a photo of Chuck Norris.

-The cast of The Walking Dead did impressions of Negan in front of Jeffrey Dean MorganDanai Gurira was my fave.

-Also, Norman Reedus said he and Andrew Lincoln had a pact to leave The Walking Dead together. Oopsie!

-In a move pretty much everyone in Hollywood should copy these days, Rian Johnson has deleted all of his old tweets. He explained: “No official directive at all, and I don’t think I’ve ever tweeted anything that bad. But it’s nine years of stuff written largely off the cuff as ephemera, if trolls scrutinizing it for ammunition is the new normal, this seems like a ‘why not?’ move.”

-The critic embargo for The Spy That Dumped Me was just lifted and the reviews are…not good. Like, really. I’m still gonna watch the crap out of it, tho.

-Speaking of movies I’m going to watch the crap outta, The Hating Game is being adapted for the big screen! This is hands-down my favourite fluffy book which I re-read whenever I’m stressed. Which means I re-read it A LOT. In my fantasy casting, I see Anna Kendrick or Zoey Deutch for Lucy, and Matthew Goode or Mike Colter for Josh. Make it go, Hollywood!

-Speaking of romcoms, I love that Crazy Rich Asians is tracking high. (Also, Awkwafina is hosting the MMVAs.)

Carlton Cuse‘s adaptation of Locke & Key has finally found a home on Netflix. People *adore* this comic book.

-Despite superstar careers, Jemaine Clement and Bret McKenzie are bringing Flight Of The Conchords back to HBO for a live special.

Natalie Portman plays a NASA space captain in Noah Hawley‘s film directorial debut. As someone on Twitter mentioned, she looks exactly like Mike from Stranger Things.

-According to the writers guild, two thirds of female writers say they experience sexual harassment on the job. That’s insane.

-The more I see of To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before, the more I can’t wait to watch this on Neflix!
