Meghan Markle Calls Out Fake News

–Meghan Markle appeared at Fortune magazine’s Most Powerful Women virtual summit and spoke about the blowback she gets for talking about things like Black Lives Matter or voting. “If you look back at anything that I’ve said, it’s really interesting because what ends up being inflammatory – it seems – is people’s interpretation of it. But if you listen to what I actually say, it’s not controversial.”

-Also, I don’t believe these reports about Meghan Markle having serious ambitions to run for president, but I love how freaked out people are by it.

–January Jones is posting on Instagram again and her videos remain wild/the best. She started her latest one by lying on the floor of her closet, and then poured beer in her bath because she read that Cleopatra used to bathe in sperm and said “depending on who you dated it can’t be that much different, right?” God, I love her.

-Speaking of funny IG videos, I always forget that Adele and Nicole Richie are BFFs.

–Gabrielle Union and NBC have reached an “amicable resolution” after the former America’s Got Talent judge accused the network of discrimination. I hope NBC backed up a Brinks truck in her driveway.

-Trump reportedly took $300 million from the CDC, which could be used to fight the coronavirus, to make ads where celebrities like Dennis Quaid tell us to be more optimistic about the coronavirus. The results are interviews like this one, in which Quaid says he believes Trump is “doing a good job” handling the pandemic. Gross.

-People are loving the way Mariah Carey shades Jennifer Lopez in her new book. This is nothing compared to that infamous interview JLo did in 1998 where she shaded Cameron Diaz, Winona Ryder and Gwyneth Paltrow. If you’ve never read it, pour yourself a glass of wine and settle in!

-I know that I’m biased against Matt Damon and Ben Affleck‘s The Last Duel already based on the film’s premise (a man challenges his best friend to a dual after his wife claims the friend raped her) but my god, these set pictures are ridiculous.

–Naya Rivera‘s sister is asking for “compassion” following a report that claimed she moved in with her sister’s ex-husband to help raise Naya’s son. “In the darkest time of my life, the only thing that is important is my friends & family. Showing up for my nephew, even though I can’t show up for myself,” she wrote on Instagram. “Im not concerned with the way things look because no one can see each agonizing moment we all endure.”

-Is there beef between Sarah Paulson and Kristin Chenoweth? Is it based on Paulson playing a character modelled after Chenoweth on Studio 60 or does it run deeper?

–The Borat sequel has been acquired by Amazon Studios; Sacha Baron Cohen‘s film will debut on Prime Video right before election day.

-This is unexpected: Moonlight’s Barry Jenkins is directing a sequel to last year’s live-action Lion King.

–Jennifer Aniston said on a podcast with Will Arnett and Jason Bateman that she nearly quit acting a couple of years ago because a project she worked on was “unprepared” and it “sucked the life” out of her, and now everyone is trying to guess at what that project was. Office Christmas Party? Dumplin? The Yellow Birds?

–Max Ehrich said that days after his split from Demi Lovato people were “harassing” his mom with text messages “all throughout the night,” and asked for everyone to stop.

-Here’s our first look at Gillian Anderson as Margaret Thatcher and Emma Corrin as Princess Diana in the new season of The Crown.

-A Dolly Parton Christmas movie costarring Christine Baranski and directed by Debbie Allen has landed at Netflix and dear god I need it now.

-I missed this earlier because for some reason the CW dropped it on Friday night, but here’s our first look at Javicia Leslie suited up as Batwoman.

-I’m not sure that the world needs a remake of The Craft but this actually looks pretty great?

Prince George Turns 7

–Kate Middleton and Prince William shared two adorable new photographs of Prince George in honour of his seventh birthday. I love the one in the camo shirt!

–Prince Harry‘s team is calling claims he mishandled Royal funds “deeply offensive.”

–Kim Kardashian posted an IG story about Kanye West, citing his bipolar diagnosis and asking for compassion and empathy. It was incredibly well-written and sympathetic, but this part made me fear that she’s still onboard with his presidential run: “Living with bi-polar disorder does not diminish or invalidate his dreams and his creative ideas, no matter how big or unobtainable they may feel to some. That is part of his genius and as we have all witnessed, many of his big dreams have come true.”

-People magazine is reporting that both Kim and Kanye are considering divorce. E! News says the pair have been spending time apart.

–Jamie Lynn Spears defended her sister Britney after a commenter posted about her “obvious mental illness.” Jamie replied: “You have no right to assume anything about my sister, and I have NO right to speak about HER health and personal matters. She is a strong, badass, unstoppable woman, and that’s the only thing that is OBVIOUS.”

-According to Us Weekly, Ellen DeGeneres’ staffers are “loving” that people are coming forward with claims she’s not nice.

–Dave Grohl penned an article for The Atlantic on how teachers need to be protected when schools reopen.

–This is a good piece on how Dave Franco praising three ’90s romcoms (all by white filmmakers) and talking about how he wants to “elevate” the genre ignores the BIPOC voices already refreshing this genre. I don’t know how you can look at the romcom resurgence of the last few years — with movies like Always Be My Maybe, The Big Sick, The Lovebirds, and Crazy Rich Asians — and think you need to jump in and make it better.

-In an interview with Katy Perry, Howard Stern brought up Orlando Bloom‘s nude paddleboating pics from a few years ago. She told him: “It was Europe! We had had a pretty chill time and everywhere we looked, it was like ‘Everybody was naked! It was Europe! It was Italy!’ and I think he wanted to fit in with the locals.”

-Speaking of Orlando Bloom, he confirmed that his missing dog has passed away.

–Jessica Chastain, Eva Longoria, Uzo Aduba, Jennifer Garner, America Ferrera, Serena Williams and Natalie Portman are part owners of LA’s We Are Angel City women’s soccer team.

-I’m iffy with Aaron Sorkin joints, but these photos of his new movie The Trial of the Chicago 7 has me intrigued, mostly because the cast is so stacked: Sacha Baron Cohen, Eddie Redmayne, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Frank Langella, and Jeremy Strong.

Ariana Grande Lets Her Hair Down

-In Ariana Grande‘s Elle cover story, she talks about dealing with the Manchester concert and loving Jaws when she was just 4, but stays mum on her quickie engagement.

-Meanwhile, Pete Davidson defended his decision to give fiancée Ariana Grande his late father’s FDNY badge, which she’s wearing on a necklace.

–Meghan Markle‘s father says he thinks his daughter looks terrified in her new family, saying he can tell by her smile. My god, how is he still allowed to talk about her?

-The is weird: Hulu just stealth-dropped the entire new season of UnREAL. It may still air on Lifetime, but not until next year, if at all. They’re playing it like it’s a Beyonce-style surprise release, but it feels a lot more like a summer burn-off.

–Johnny Depp has settled his legal feud with his former managers.

–Demi Moore and Cybill Shepherd got in on the Bruce Willis-roasting action for Comedy Central.

–Jessica Biel‘s trouble-plagued restaurant has abruptly closed.

–Chris Pine uses a flip phone and drives a Jeep Wagoner. And yet, I still think he’s the best Chris. He’s so great, he’s able to overcome all this hipster nonsense.

–Sacha Baron Cohen‘s new series on Showtime is getting rave reviews. I like this take on how he’s able to respond to right wing troll culture in a way mainstream reporters cannot. The gun segment is insane.

–Danielle Panabaker will make her directorial debut in The Flash’s new season. Well, they’re not giving her anything to do in front of the camera so she might as well try behind it.

–Billy Bush‘s wife has filed for divorce. She deserves a medal for sticking it out for two years after the tapes.

–Cardi B, Beyonce and Jay-Z are leading the MTV VMA nominations.

-I gave up on The Crown because it was way too slow for my tastes, but Olivia Colman looks amazing as Queen Elizabeth. It’s hard to believe that that’s the same woman who once said “Move away from me now or I will piss in a cup and throw it at you.”

-I missed that Broadway stars were sniping about Lauren Ambrose taking Sunday matinees off during her My Fair Lady run.

-Stranger Things doesn’t come back until next year, but Netflix is already promoting it with a new teaser that introduces a new job for Steve.

-Expectant couple Norman Reedus and Diane Kruger had some face mask fun on Instagram, but seriously, has no one introduced them to Korean sheet masks yet?! I expect more from her.

-I love that Christine Baranski had no idea what Big Dick Energy was, but as soon as she was told she had it she was like “oh, I get it now.”

-Now that The Handmaid’s Tale finale has aired here, I get why it was so divisive with critics last week.

-Michelle Obama dancing in the front row of a Beyonce concert is a mood.

-Vulture ranked the 20 best rom-com sidekicks and I love these picks!

-I’m seeing The Miseducation of Cameron Post this week, and the new trailer has me v. excited.

-The promo for an Emma Roberts/Hayden Christensen rom-com might actually be the worst trailer of the year. So naturally, I can’t wait to watch it.

-Speaking of movie trailers, I love this 90s trailer bracket.

–Felicity Jones fights for gender equality as young a Ruth Bader Ginsburg in the trailer for On the Basis of Sex, costarring Armie Hammer. This looks, um…not great.
