Rihanna Nabs Her 6th Vogue Cover

rihanna-vogue-cover

-In her new Vogue cover storyRihanna confirms she turned down Super Bowl halftime show in solidarity with Colin Kaepernick (“I couldn’t dare do that. For what? Who gains from that? Not my people. I just couldn’t be a sellout. I couldn’t be an enabler. There’s things within [the NFL] that I do not agree with at all, and I was not about to go and be of service to them in any way”), reveals that she’s already planning her wedding dress (“It would probably be a collaboration between myself and [John] Galliano”), and rails against Trump’s stance on gun control (“It is devastating. People are being murdered by war weapons that they legally purchase. This is just not normal. That should never, ever be normal. And the fact that it’s classified as something different because of the color of their skin? It’s a slap in the face. It’s completely racist. Put an Arab man with that same weapon in that same Walmart and there is no way that Trump would sit there and address it publicly as a mental health problem. The most mentally ill human being in America right now seems to be the president”).

-In her Elle cover story, Mindy Kaling says the TV Academy tried to remove her producing credit on The Office. In response to their denial, she tweeted: “Respectfully, the Academy’s statement doesn’t make any sense. I *was* singled out. There were other Office writer-performer-producers who were NOT cut from the list. Just me. The most junior person, and woman of color. Easiest to dismiss. Just sayin’.”

Angelina Jolie‘s dress at the Maleficent premiere is magnificent!

Miley Cyrus and Cody Simpson are already in the “visiting each other in the hospital” stage of their relationship.

-In Ronan Farrow‘s new book, an NBC producer accuses Matt Lauer of raping her during the Sochi Olympics. The details of her allegations are as horrible as you’d expect. NBC News responded to the story: “That’s why he was fired within 24 hours of us first learning of the complaint,” while Hoda Kotb and Savannah Guthrie addressed the story on air. Guthrie said “I feel like we owe it to our viewers to pause for a moment. This is shocking and appalling, and I honestly don’t know even know what to say about it. I know it wasn’t easy for our colleague Brooke to come forward then. It is not easy now, and we support her and any women who come forward with claims,” while Kotb added “You feel like you’ve known someone for 12 years, you feel like you know them inside and out, and all of a sudden a door opens up and it’s a part of them you didn’t know. We don’t know all the facts in all of this, but they are not allegations of an affair — they are allegations of a crime.”

Matt Lauer‘s statement of denial is slut-shaming and disgusting.

-Also, after rejecting Farrow’s Harvey Weinstein story, the head of NBC News separately thanked Weinstein in an email for his compliments on Megyn Kelly’s debut.

-In lighter news, Twitter was *riveted* today by the tale of two British footballer’s wivesCollen Rooney couldn’t figure out which of her IG followers kept leaking her private IG stories to The Sun — but she had her suspicions. So she said she blocked everyone from viewing her stories except for the person she suspected and then posted false stories for months about her basement flooding, a trip to Mexico, etc. — only to see those stories later show up in The Sun. Today she revealed that the only person viewing those stories was Rebekah Vardy. This is so juicy it doesn’t even matter that I have zero idea who these people are!

Mark Ruffalo‘s take on the Ellen Degeneres/George W thing is perfection. It’s not that two people with different views shouldn’t be civil or “kind” to each other. It’s that Ellen has since referred to the man who fought to keep her own marriage illegal as a “friend.” The Bush era was definitely not marked by “kindness” — and to dismiss his terrible legacy as a difference of opinion between pals seems overly simplistic.

-Also, her preaching “kindness” continues to lead to lots of tweets from people who’ve worked with her who find that ironic.

-Celebs are closing ranks around Ellen, in any case.

Chrissy Teigen, Seth Rogen, Kate McKinnon and more stars go on global eating tour with Dave Chang in a new Netflix food series. I love shows like this. Gywneth Paltrow has never been more endearing as when she was eating her way around Spain on camera.

-I gave up on Riverdale in season one, but I’m intrigued to see how the show honours Luke Perry in tonight’s premiere.

-A big shift is coming for TV, with the arrival of new streaming platforms Apple TV+, Disney+, HBO Max and NBCUniversal’s Peacock joining the already established streamers. This shopping guide makes it clear just how expensive it’s gonna get.

-All of the reminiscing about Angel on its anniversary makes me wanna do a rewatch!

-The guy who played Carlos on Desperate Housewives is NOT happy with Felicity Huffman‘s 14 day sentence: “White Privilege. And I saw eight years worth of it, so I know what I’m talking about. Accountability and responsibility don’t mean [s–t] to these people…Slap on the wrist. Sorry, but this is [s–t].”

Joshua Jackson being proud of his gf is a mood.

Brie Larson says Marvel actresses have “passionately” told Kevin Feige they want an all-female movie. Gimmie!!!

Alicia Vikander and Riley Keough star in the trailer for the Netflix film Earthquake Bird.

Nick Jonas and Priyanka Chopra Are Engaged

-The summer of quickie celebrity weddings continues! Nick Jonas and Priyanka Chopra are reportedly engaged after just two months of dating. And he apparently closed down Tiffany’s to get her engagement ring like he’s goddamn Patrick Dempsey or something…

-A new Ronan Farrow exposé is coming later today, and it’s set to be a biggie. CBS CEO Leslie Moonves, one of the most powerful men in Hollywood, is being accused of sexual misconduct. While THR suggests the investigation alleges unwanted kissing and touching, Farrow suggested the claims in the full story may be more explosive, tweeting: “A quick reminder that I don’t comment on reporting I haven’t published, and if you’re reading about my work from secondary sources you’re often not getting the full or correct story—especially in cases where parties have an interest in downplaying or otherwise spinning.”

Anna Wintour’s final Vogue cover will reportedly be Beyoncé, which is a pretty great way to bow out.

Roseanne Barr doubled down on her race excuse in her Hannity interview. Sigh.

-Today’s Star Wars: Episode IX cast announcement revealed that Mark Hamill would be back (did anyone doubt it?) confirms Billy Dee Williams’ return, added Richard E. Grant and Naomi Ackie to the cast, and most surprisingly, announced that it will use unreleased Carrie Fisher footage. They also didn’t mention Keri Russell, but she’s still involved.

-Los Angeles County prosecutors have concluded there is insufficient evidence to charge Gossip Girl Ed Westwick with rape stemming from those earlier allegations from three women.

Britney Spears serenaded Jimmy Fallon with “I’m Not a Girl, Not Yet a Woman” in a new episode of Ew!  She looks really, really good.

Sarah Jessica Parker sat down to chat with Gwyneth Paltrow on her podcast, in which they talked about marriage and Cynthia Nixon running for governor.

-I’m here for Ira writing a Neflix show!

-It was a good week for white actresses to be woke on Instagram. Anne Hathaway posted an impassioned response to Nia Wilson‘s murder on Wednesday (“We must ask our (white)selves- how “decent” are we really? Not in our intent, but in our actions? In our lack of action?”), and Minka Kelly defended costar Anna Diop, who left Instagram due to racists.

-The new season of Orange Is The New Black dropped today to mixed reviews.

-BBC Radio 1 canceled an interview with Logan Paul, saying it “didn’t meet our standards.” I’ve actually unfollowed Chloe Bennet on Insta because her stories are all about him cuddling her dog, and I just can’t.

-I love that everyone is pointing out that Amy Adams’ character on Sharp Objects is the worst reporter ever.

-I’m feeling Jennifer Garner‘s opinion of camping in the trailer for her upcoming HBO comedy.

Tom Cruise made James Corden jump out of a plane and this entire video is amazing. Look, if you need to skydive in order to goose your talk show’s ratings, you couldn’t ask for a better cheerleader than Cruise.

Gossip Girl’s Ed Westwick Denies Rape Allegation

https://twitter.com/EdWestwick/status/927940546382913536

-Actress Kristina Cohen wrote a long Facebook post last night, accusing Gossip Girl star Ed Westwick of raping her three years ago. She says her boyfriend at the time, a producer, took her to the actor’s house. After quickly becoming freaked out by the situation, she says she feigned illness and went to lie down in a guest room. “I was woken up abruptly by Ed on top of me, his fingers entering my body. I told him to stop, but he was strong. I fought him off as hard as I could but he grabbed my face in his hands, shaking me, telling me he wanted to f**k me. I was paralyzed, terrified. I couldn’t speak, I could no longer move. He held me down and raped me.”

Westwick responded to the allegation with an unequivocal denial.  It’s surprising he waited nearly a day to comment if he was just going to end up doing it on Twitter instead of arranging for an interview with a prominent outlet.

-Meanwhile, BBC One’s social media manager really, really needs to check trending topics before tweeting...

Sia said someone was trying to sell a nude image of her, so she posted it herself.

-Following Taylor Swift’s battle with the ACLU, journalist have taken to Twitter to talk about times when her legal team tried to kill their stories.

-The world sucks right now. A Tiffany Haddish Oscar nomination would make it suck slightly less.

Jason Momoa talked about his secret wedding to Lisa Bonet: “Some a**hole leaked it!”

-Star Trek Discovery’s star Sonequa Martin-Green squaring off against Piers Morgan in a gender fluidity debate is my new favourite song.

Jessica Chastain says she won’t be silent about those Bryan Singer allegations just because she’s working on his X-Men movie. That’s ballsy and I love it.

-Looking back at old interviews reveals that Dustin Hoffman grabbed Meryl Streep‘s breast the first time he met her. He also once told a story about pinching his The Graduate co-star Katharine Ross‘ butt during their first screen test “as a way to help loosen us up…She said, ‘How dare you?!'”

Ronan Farrow’s latest article that makes it clear why it was so hard to expose Harvey Weinstein. Weinstein hired private security agencies to investigate his accusers and journalists. Over the course of a year, elite Israeli intelligence agents using false identities as women’s rights defenders and fellow victims insinuated themselves into Rose McGowan’s life.  Scary stuff.

-Oh and  a lawyer oversaw Weinstein‘s private spying effort to stop NYTimes’s story – while also representing the NYTimes!

-Interesting question: are we over Matt Damon now? I will say, when he showed up in the super secret cameo in a recent blockbuster, I enjoyed it much less than I would have a month ago.

-Wait, on Stranger Things Steve was originally supposed to rape Nancy in season one? Thank god they swerved away from that. He’s my new fave!

Julianna Margulies is going to return to TV in Marti Noxon‘s AMC revenge drama Dietland. I loved the book that the show is based on so I was already here for it. But this is good casting.

-Just when I think I’m about ready to quit Riverdale, they incorporate a Rent song into an episode. What is this show?!?

-Holy moly, did Disney’s ban of the LA Times blow up in their face. After banning them from covering their movies following this Times’ story on Disney’s financial relationship with the city of Anaheim, a ton of reporters refused to cover Disney in solidarity, including some from the Washington Post, NYT, NPR and The A.V. Club. Then four key film critics’ organizations announced that they would disqualify Disney’s films from year-end awards consideration. Oscar voter David Simon said he wouldn’t vote for their movies. Even Ava DuVernay, who is directing the Disney film A Wrinkle in Time, expressed solidarity with the press. By this afternoon, Disney called mercy and ended the ban.

Chris Evanstweets about his dog never fail to crack me up.

-I had no idea Mudbound was heading to Netflix next week. This movie got rave reviews at Sundance and TIFF.
