-In his Entertainment Weekly cover story, Ben Affleck is interviewed by Matt Damon and says that he doesn’t regret Gigli because that’s where he met Jennifer Lopez. “I thought my job was to be a cipher. I can see now how people looked at me and thought of this person as some callow frat guy who’s cavalier, or has too much. It engendered a lot of negative feelings in people about me….But if the reaction to Gigli hadn’t happened, I probably wouldn’t have ultimately decided, ‘I don’t really have any other avenue but to direct movies,’ which has turned out to be the real love of my professional life. So in those ways, it’s a gift. And I did get to meet Jennifer, the relationship with whom has been really meaningful to me in my life.” (Also, the video in the middle of the story is cute because there’s a lot about how his 16-year-old daughter is constantly mocking him.)

–Jamie Lynn Spears is on a promo tour for her forthcoming memoir, and got teary when asked about her rift with sister Britney, saying she’s “always been my sister’s biggest supporter.”

-Oh god. Pete Davidson is reportedly being considered to host the 2022 Oscars.

-The SAG Award nominations were announced this morning and they were WILD. Kristen Stewart (thought to be the frontrunner) was shut out, as was Rachel Zegler, while Jessica Chastain, Nicole Kidman, and Jennifer Hudson somehow squeaked in. Selena Gomez was not nominated for Only Murders in the Building but costars Steve Martin and Martin Short were. The inclusion of the cast of Yellowstone in the TV ensemble category was unexpected, as were Squid Games and House of Gucci’s multiple nods.

–Amy Schumer and Shirley Maclaine will join the cast of the second season of Only Murders in the Building.

–Prince Andrew will face a civil trial in America over sexual abuse claims after a US judge dismissed his lawyer’s attempt to have the lawsuit thrown out.

–Reese Witherspoon published an Instagram post about habits she wants to embrace to improve her daily life, and Ina Garten was like ‘Nah, imma drink more.’

–Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen not only released a statement on the death of Bob Saget, but they also allowed their names to be added to the FH cast statement. This is the first time I can remember them speaking in public in at least a decade, and I wish it wasn’t for such a terrible thing.

–Kellie Martin is reprising her role in a sequel to Life Goes On for NBC. Her gut-wrenching storyline with Chad Lowe in the original show is still burned in my memory.

-I’m so glad to see this thoughtful review of To Paradise. I’m trying to get through that book but man, I’m struggling. I felt like a failure for giving up her previously super buzzy book (A Little Life) but now I’m on the DNF train. The New Yorker profile of Hanya Yanagihara is fascinating, though.

-Netflix is moving ahead with not one but two sequels to Red Notice, featuring Dwayne Johnson, Gal Gadot, and Ryan Reynolds.

-I’m finally caught up on Station Eleven and I wish I hadn’t resisted it so long because of its post-apocalyptic/pandemic content, because I find it so hopeful and kind. Episode 9 was especially exceptional.

-One TV show at a time is about all I can handle these days, but this review of the reality show Finding Magic Mike makes me really want to watch it.

-The creators of The Americans have a new series for FX called The Patient, starring Domhnall Gleeson as a serial killer and Steve Carell as his prisoner.

-An adult film shoot goes horribly wrong in the terrifying trailer for Ti West‘s new horror film X, which stars Mia Goth, Jenna Ortega, and Kid Cudi.

–Zoë Kravitz stars as an agoraphobic tech worker who discovers a recording of a violent crime in the trailer for Steven Soderbergh’s KIMI, coming to HBO Max in Feb.

Megan Fox and Kourtney Kardashian Get Skimpy for SKIMS

–Megan Fox and Kourtney Kardashian are pretending to be hot for each other in their new SKIMS ads. In other news, I no longer understand the target audience for shapewear.

-Shocking and tragic: Willie Garson has passed away from pancreatic cancer at 57. He was spotted filming the Sex and the City reboot just last month. The celebrity tributes are pouring in.

–Brad Pitt is accusing Angelina Jolie of using “devious means” to try to cut him out of a lucrative real estate deal involving the posh Chateau Miraval estate they co-owned in France.

–Aaron Rodgers has responded to critics who claimed his relationship with Shailene Woodley is affecting his performance: “It’s absolute horseshit.”

–Jennifer Hough, who accused Nicki Minaj’s husband Kenneth Petty of rape, claims she was threatened with a $20k bounty on her head.

–Justin Chambers says after 15 years on the show, Grey’s Anatomy became “sort of a factory job for acting. You just clock in, clock out.” He was rumoured to be making around $375k per episode, so not exactly like a factory job though, is it?

–Nicole Richie turned 40 and celebrated by accidentally setting her hair on fire.

–Johnny Depp used his acceptance speech at the San Sebastian Film Festival to call out cancel culture. “It’s so far out of hand now that I can promise you that no one is safe. Not one of you. No one out that door. No one is safe. It takes one sentence and there’s no more ground, the carpet has been pulled. It’s not just me that this has happened to, it’s happened to a lot of people.”

–Ryan Reynolds responded in the best way possible to Gerard Butler‘s casual diss — by shouting out the ACLU and NAACP Legal Defense Fund.

-Here’s Ted Lasso’s Brett Goldstein doing a 6-minute medley of The Muppet Christmas Carol songs, just because it’s been that kind of week and I feel we all need it.

–Jason Sudeikis, Owen Wilson, Kim Kardashian and Rami Malek will be among the first hosts of SNL’s new season.

-The Prince Andrew reputation rehabilitation project has begun.

–Richard Buckley, fashion editor and designer Tom Ford‘s husband of 35 years, has died.

-Black actresses who star on CW superhero shows got together on an Instagram Live to talk about their experiences. The Flash’s Candice Patton said that the network had no idea how to deal with the racist hate coming her way, but she knew if she left the show that execs would have used that as an excuse to not cast Black women in the future.

–Kathy Hilton went into a restaurant wearing a dress and left wearing a tablecloth. I’ve never been more interested in her.

-Following years of complaints about her use of “blaccent,” Awkwafina finally addressed the matter in an interview — and didn’t really say much at all. It’s weird that she’s been so dogged by this and yet seemed totally caught off guard by the question.

-An Emmys producer found Seth Rogen‘s onstage COVID comments “deeply frustrating.”

–Daniel Craig believes the next James Bond should not be a woman — because he believes actresses should get better roles and not settle for castoffs.

–Britney Spears’ lawyer told a judge that he expects her conservatorship will be terminated “completely and inevitably” this fall, but his current top priority is removing Jamie Spears from the role of conservator of her estate. He is urging the judge to replace Jamie on Sept. 29 with someone who could handle the job on a “temporary, short-term” basis for things like her prenuptial agreement.

-Here’s the first full trailer for Netflix’s upcoming Britney Spears doc.

-Netflix’s new miniseries Maid is getting good reviews, especially Margaret Qualley’s performance as a mom who finds work cleaning houses after escaping an abusive relationship.

–Debby Ryan and Lucy Fry make an Uber driver’s night hell in the trailer for Netflix vampire action movie Night Teeth.

 

Colton Underwood Comes Out

-Devoutly religious former Bachelor star Colton Underwood sat down for a Good Morning America interview to reveal some big news: “I’m gay. And I came to terms with that earlier this year and have been processing it… I’m the happiest and healthiest I’ve ever been in my life.” He’s recently been the subject of public controversy because of a restraining order filed by his ex-girlfriend Cassie Randolph from the series.

-And surprise, surprise — his major announcement/image rehabilitation is already working. There are reports that he’s landed his own Netflix reality show, with Olympian Gus Kenworthy acting “gay guide.”

–Tom Cruise reportedly wants to do a full, global press tour for Top Gun: Maverick. Pandemic? What pandemic?

–Kyra Sedgwick told Drew Barrymore about going to Tom Cruise’s house once and accidentally causing a scene. “There was this like fireplace mantle and I was looking around and there was this little button underneath the mantle. I was like, ‘Oh what is that little button?’ So I pressed the little button because I thought maybe something interesting will happen. Nothing happened and then I got a little nervous. I was like, ‘Oh nothing happened that doesn’t seem right.’ So I tapped Tom on the shoulder, who was in the middle of a story, and I said, ‘I pressed this button down here.’ And he was like, ‘You pressed that button?’ And I was like, ‘Yeah, I pressed that button.’ And he goes, ‘That’s the panic button.’ And so the cops came, they had to stop the screening, they had to see Tom. I think there were more than like five cop cars, it was something…I didn’t get invited back.”

-White Boy Summer is getting off to a rocky start: Chet Hanks‘s ex filed an assault lawsuit against him.

–Taylor Swift confirmed to Stephen Colbert that her song “Hey Stephen” isn’t about him. “No, Stephen, I first recorded that song in 2008. I think I was like 18. And you were 44 years old,” she said, adding: “I’m a big fan.”

-Meanwhile, Taylor released a video for her live performance of “Exile” with Bon Iver’s Justin Vernon from the Long Pond Sessions. God, I love that song.

-Meanwhile, Justin Vernon previewed a new song on his Instagram Live which features Taylor. I love that she’s just part of the Big Red Machine family now.

-There’s talk that Prince Andrew is “demanding” to wear his military uniform at Prince Philip’s funeral.

-This Is Us will only have 16 episodes this season instead of the planned 18 due to coronavirus delays. That means there’s only 3 episodes left this season.

–Julianne Moore, Chloé Sevigny, Indya Moore, Charlotte Gainsbourg and Leo Reilly star in a new short film for Saint Laurent.

–Regina King is having the best award season fashion-wise and I’m bummed we don’t get to see these looks on a red carpet.

-Never Have I Ever is coming back to Netflix, and Common has joined the cast.

–Cardi B is calling out “blue check Republicans” who have stayed silent on Daunte Wright, who was shot and killed by a cop who mistook her gun for a taser, and Caron Nazario, an Army officer who was pepper-sprayed by police.

-I’m surprised by how much the new trailer for The Hills makes me want to watch it.

-The F9: The Fast Saga trailer introduces John Cena‘s Jakob as Dom’s long-long brother.
