Lana Del Rey Plots Her Return

lana-del-rey-billboard-cover

Lana Del Rey is having a day. She’s on the cover of Billboard and she just dropped her first music video from Norman F—ing Rockwell, featuring two songs.

Miley Cyrus took to Twitter to deny reports that she cheated on Liam Hemsworth during their marriage. “Once Liam & I reconciled, I meant it, & I was committed…I can admit to a lot of things but I refuse to admit that my marriage ended because of cheating.” I wonder if the part about “at this point I had to make a healthy decision for myself to leave a previous life behind” is a dig at Liam (and a confirmation about rumours that they drifted apart because of his partying)?

-Also in her Twitter thread, she reveals that she was fired from the animated film Hotel Transylavania after photos of her licking a penis cake she got Liam for his birthday hit the internet.

-ET accidentally posted an article before its scheduled release about Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello getting flirty at their VMAs performance…despite the fact that the award show hasn’t happened yet. Everyone’s pointing to this as proof that their relationship is fake and even though I’m not 100% convinced they’re legit, this doesn’t sway me either way. Do you know how many awards show articles I used to pre-write? Assuming that a couple that delivered a flirty music video will deliver an equally flirty performance of the same song doesn’t seem like a stretch.

Taylor Swift‘s long-awaited Lover album drops tomorrow, but Missy Elliott might be stealing her thunder by dropping an album tonight.

-Taylor just debuted her new video  a few minutes ago and it’s a big deal (for her) that her love interest in it is black. Also, she’s not only releasing a new album tomorrow, she’s also releasing a capsule collection with Stella McCartney. It looks like shapeless tied-dyed hipster gear to me, so I’m clearly not the target audience. And that oversized sweatshirt seems to be biting Ariana Grande‘s style.

-This thread about all the times Rob Lowe’s sons dragged him on Instagram is a good time.

Hugh Jackman invited a breast cancer fighter up on stage after seeing the sign she was holding up in the audience and I think I have something in my eye…

Sarah Michelle Gellar is heading back to TV in a Fox dramedy. My body is ready!

-Here’s the first trailer for The L Word’s return. Yeah, Shane can still get it.

-I really liked this article comparing Sean Spicer to Tom, the feckless opportunist on Succession.

-The screws are tightening on Prince Andrew. A new report claims he was seen getting foot massage from young woman at Epstein’s apartment.

-Netflix is set to release a new TV series where a guy played by Paul Rudd is quietly replaced by an all-around better guy who is… also played by Paul Rudd.

-Riverdale’s KJ Apa stars as a Christian rocker in the new trailer for the romantic drama I Still Believe.

-A small-town Oregon teacher (Keri Russell) and her brother (Jesse Plemons), the local sheriff, discover that a young student (Jeremy T. Thomas) is harboring a dangerous secret in the terrifying trailer for Antlers.

Kristen Stewart Goes Glam Charlie’s Angels Trailer

-The first Charlie’s Angels trailer actually looks like a blast. (I just listened to the I Hate It But I Love It episode about the last Charlie’s Angels movie and realized how gross it could be, so I’m comforted by the fact that these girls say “Hello, Charlie” in a very straight-forward, non-flirty way.)

-In his new Vanity Fair cover story, Idris Elba talks about being disheartened by the reaction to rumours he’d take on Bond, and taking a role in the adaptation of the Broadway musical Cats (“I’m not a ‘singer.’ I’ve made music with singing. I’m musical…I’m an actor. I’ve never done it before, so I thought, ‘Why not?'”)

Jake Gyllenhaal stanning for Sean Paul is the best thing you’ll see on the internet today.

-Queer Eye’s Jonathan Van Ness tried to tame David Letterman‘s wild beard.

Kim Kardashian responded to the backlash against naming her shapewear line Kimono (and trying to trademark the term) in a statement that uses lots of words like “inclusion” and “diversity” but doesn’t really seem to recognize the cultural appropriation or apologize for anything.

-It’s been long enough that I can assume you’ve all watched season 2 of Fleabag, right? (If you haven’t, get on it! It’s only six 22-minute episodes, so you can crank it out in a night!) I’ve watched Kristin Scott Thomas’ monologue on how women are born with pain built in multiple times.  I love this interview with Andrew Scott and Phoebe Waller-Bridge on creating their chemistry, and this is probably the best article (of the many, many I read) about the show’s amazing use of the fourth wall.

Paul Rudd is joining the cast of Jason Reitman‘s Ghostbusters 2020, which he announced in this cute video.

-Nearly four months after it was cancelled by Netflix, One Day At A Time was saved by cable channel Pop. The landmark deal will see season four air there first before airing on CBS later.

-Speaking of shows that air on Pop in the US, this is a lovely story on the impact Schitt’s Creek has had on Goodwood, Ont., where fans flock to see the sets and stars.

-Spider-Man: Far From Home is getting pretty good reviews.

-The man who accused Kevin Spacey of sexually assaulting him in a bar in 2016 has filed a civil lawsuit against the actor.

Salma Hayek is in early talks to join Marvel’s The Eternals. At this point, they should just list the actors NOT rumoured to be in this movie.

George and Amal Clooney continue to live their best lives.

-The stars of Legends of Tomorrow openly mocking the fact that the CW didn’t invite them to ComicCon is a mood.

-I liked this article about the pros and cons of bringing back our fave TV shows and characters.

Joel Kinnaman plays a snitch caught between the mob and the FBI in the trailer for The Informer.

Female Employees At Talking Dead Walk Following Chris Hardwick’s Return

-Tell me again how Chris Hardwick is a great guy. A female executive producer and a “handful” of the approximately 25 people who work on The Talking Dead have quit the show after he was reinstated last month when an internal AMC investigation found no reason to fire him amid accusations of sexual and emotional abuse. Would you quit a steady, well-paying gig on a popular show if you believed your boss was innocent?

-Meanwhile, his ex Chloe Dykstra tweeted: “Hey dudes. Just a reminder: I 100% stand by every single word of my essay. I made sure it was unembellished, factual, and that I had evidence to back it up in order to protect myself in case of ACTUAL litigation (not a network investigation, where I’m not protected). That is all.”

Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck‘s divorce case could be dismissed if he doesn’t take action soon.

Demi Lovato has temporarily checked out of rehab to seek additional treatment in Chicago, according to People. Here’s hoping she’s getting all the help she needs.

-A tweet that went viral last week about a woman who was having a rough go of it and Ludacris paid for her groceries at Whole Foods made me cry. The New York Times dug deeper into it and found there are more than 100 posts on social media about him footing people’s grocery bills.

Kanye West went silent when pressed by Jimmy Kimmel about Donald Trump’s policy of separating children at the border.

-The creator of Netflix’s Insatiable needs  to stop giving interviews that make everything worse. She says the backlash to the show is bordering on “censorship” which…nah, your show is just bad.

-I’m glad that the rumours that Idris Elba is inching closer to playing James Bond were debunked. He deserves better than that tired franchise.

-This guest column by Glow star Betty Gilpin on acting’s highs and lows is a must-read.

-I really liked how AP reporter Lindsay Bahr handled the Casey Affleck interview, but he’s still cancelled to me.

-Essence revealed its new cover with Naomi Campbell, along with this perfect caption: “Giving Black women covers since May 1970.”

This story about a bidding war among Hollywood’s A-list over the Daily Beast’s article about the McDonald’s Monopoly scam is fascinating. The bit about how movie producers attempt to get longform articles written about their desired films subjects because “they’re better than pitch meetings” is crazy (and crazy smart).

-Insecure returns to HBO this Sunday and the reviews are great.

Paul Rudd just signed on to a new Netflix comedy. He will play dual roles in Living With Yourself about a man struggling with his life who undergoes a novel treatment to become a better person, only to find he’s been replaced by a new and improved version of himself.

-There’s some slow but steady progress on the diversity front in TV. HBO, has traditionally has been one of the worst offenders, but now 57% of its directors for 2017-2018 season are women and POCs. That’s up from 23% just 3 years ago.

-Reminder: Crazy Rich Asians is still sitting at 100% fresh on Rotten Tomatoes. Have you bought your tickets? BUY YOUR TICKETS!

Black Earth Rising, a new Hugo Blick thriller on British TV, stars Michaela Coel as the lead. I’m so in! (Also, I can’t believe this is the girl from Chewing Gum.)
