–Lin-Manuel Miranda‘s cover profile in Vanity Fair makes him seem even nicer than you thought — which shouldn’t be possible.

-Royal dramaz! A new report claims that the drama-filled run-up to Meghan Markle‘s wedding, Kate Middleton was left in tears after an argument over Princess Charlotte’s dress.

-I kind of like that Taylor Swift is with someone who refuses to talk about her  in the press. When pressed about her in his GQ profile, Joe Alwyn responded “Someone’s private life is, by definition, private. No one is obliged to share their personal life.” Bad for gossip, but good for her.

-It’s starting to make more and more sense why Kim Cattrall didn’t want to do a third Sex and the City movie — Samantha’s main storyline reportedly revolved around Miranda’s 14-year-old son Brady lusting after her. Also, Mr. Big was supposedly going to die of a heart attack at the beginning of the movie, making it more about Carrie’s grief than the relationship between the four women. All in all, it sounds like she was smart to bow out, even if it turned her into the bad guy in the press.

–David Beckham is getting some heat on Instagram for kissing his daughter (because people are the WORST), and Tom Brady has jumped to his defense.

–Ariana Grande’s “thank u next” video will pay homage to Mean Girls and I can’t wait!

–Adam Levine says he understands women because he has daughters. Oh well, OK THEN!

-I love this piece on Matthew Macfadyen. The fact that the douche on Succession is the same guy who played Mr Darcy still blows my mind.

–Jaden Smith says he’s dating Tyler, The Creator. I mean, sometimes I say I’m dating Idris Elba, but that doesn’t make it true.

-Unlike her fellow creators, Ava DuVernay didn’t go the Netflix route. Instead, she’s signed a $100M deal with Warner Bros TV.

-In news that should surprise no one but delight everyone, a To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before sequel is officially in the works.

-Amazon is pulling out the big guns for their Modern Love TV show. The cast includes Anne Hathaway, Dev Patel, Tina Fey, John Slattery, Catherine Keener, Andy Garcia, and Cristin Milioti.

–Ethan Hawke gave a rousing speech at the Gotham Awards. “We are living in a time period where the environment, education, racial equality … they are being criminally disregarded. It’s a real problem. It’s unacceptable.”

-Green Book flopped hard at the box office. I wonder what that will do to its Oscar buzz?

-Yeah ok, I laughed at the red band trailer for What Men Want.

 

 

Demi Lovato “Stable” Following Reported Overdose

-I’m so glad to hear that Demi Lovato is “stable” following her reported OD. (Initial reports said heroin, but sources close to her insist it wasn’t that. She was treated with Narcan, which apparently one of her friends had on hand, which is used in overdoses of heroin, oxy, and other narcotics.) She’s reportedly awake and recovering. I’m rooting for that girl. She’s always been admirably candid and transparent about her struggles.

–Beyoncé’s team is reportedly in the middle of negotiations to debut her next visual album on Netflix. Not Tidal? Hmmmm…

-TIFF’s announced its first round of films. I love that they got The Hate U Give and Widows as world premieres, as well as Timothee Chalamet and Steve Carell‘s Beautiful Boy and This is Us creator Dan Fogelman‘s Life Itself. (There will also be an interesting rematch: TIFF will premiere new films from both Damien Chazelle and Barry Jenkins, who were neck-and-neck last year with La La Land and Moonlight).

–Karlie Kloss is engaged to Joshua Kushner. But how is she going to marry Taylor Swift now?!

-Yet another TV critic has turned TV creator: TVLine’s Michael Ausiello is making an 80s dramedy based on his childhood.

-Community’s Dan Harmon may have been one of the first male celebs to get caught in #MeToo, but it’s an old Adult Swim video that might really hurt him. The Rick and Morty co-creator made a parody pilot of Showtime’s Dexter in 2009 that featured Harmon’s character traveling back in time to stop serial killers by sexually assaulting them when they were infants. And yeah, that’s pretty damn offensive. But Harmon is the only guy in the Me Too movement so far to give a decent apology and actually seem like he’s actively trying to change. Another wrinkle: much like James Gunn, this offensive stuff resurfaced thanks to 4chan and far-right subreddits. In recent days, this same types have also gone after Michael Ian Black, Trevor Noah and Patton Oswalt.

-This is a great piece about how black women have been calling out R. Kelly for years and nobody listened.

–Lin-Manuel Miranda, Michelle Williams and Sam Rockwell are teaming up for a Fosse-Verdon series at FX. I like all of those words!!

–ATX’s Felicity reunion is now available to watch IN FULL on YouTube. There goes my next hour…

-On Dax Shepard’s Armchair Expert podcast (which I’m finding oddly endearing), Mila Kunis says she did something bad to end her eight-year relationship with Macaulay Culkin. “I f**ked up. I was an asshole in my 20s and I’ll be the first to admit it. And that’s something that took me a long time to come out and be like, ‘Yeah, you know what, I was a dick,’ and accept it and I own it. And it’s f**ked up what I did. It’s f**ked up what I did, and it’s f**ked up how I did it.” She didn’t expand on what exactly she did, though.

-This might be the most surprising split of the summer: Girls duo Lena Dunham and Jenni Konner have parted ways as producing partners. Sources tell THR they’re in talks for individual overall deals with HBO.

-After a rough same-day premiere, Sacha Baron Cohen’s Who Is America?’s series debut has doubled its audience after seven days. Per Showtime, most of the added viewing came via on demand and streaming. But I’m still not entirely sure who this show is aimed at. Like, the people who would watch already know that his targets are dumb. Also, I hate that Cohen and his all-male writing staff thought that a “prank” against The Bachelor’s Corinne Olympios (who was the centre of the reality show’s sexual assault investigation) would be funny. It was not.

–Alita: Battle Angel from James Cameron and Robert Rodriguez has its first trailer.

 

Is Beyonce Pregnant Or Just Messing With Us?

–Beyonce‘s belly bump watch just kicked into high gear thanks to this video from her new tour, in which she appears to cup her stomach. I dunno; she just had twins a year ago and she posed with a Corona just last week.

-In news that should surprise no one, Johnny Depp is being sued for allegedly punching a location manager on the City of Lies set. The lawsuit claims the actor screamed obscenities at the crew member and punched him twice in the ribs, then offered him $100,000 to punch back.

–Robin Wright broke her silence about costar Kevin Spacey, making it clear she didn’t have a friendship with him beyond the House of Cards set. In her Today Show interview, she says “Kevin and I knew each other between action and cut, and in between setups, where we would giggle. I didn’t really …I didn’t know the man. I knew the incredible craftsman that he is.”

-Also, costar Patricia Clarkson credits her for saving the show after the scandal. “Robin led all of this charge so that people would save their livelihoods, because when the show goes away, some people don’t get paid. I think it’s going to be a stunning, stunning new season and I’m thankful for it.”

-Is 24 the new age for celebrities to get engaged? And cripes, is that another pear-shaped diamond?!

–Gal Gadot stopped by a children’s hospital in Virginia dressed like Wonder Woman and the photos are lovely.

-I really like Dwayne Johnson‘s response to those tough Baywatch reviews: “It’s not that critics didn’t like it. They … hated it. But to clarify, it’s not audience first, critics never. Critics love movies, and we’re all in this business together.”

-Grey’s Anatomy star Jesse Williams wants a new trial to lower his $50K monthly child support bill.

-I don’t love the olive green Ralph Lauren dress that Meghan Markle wore to Prince Louis‘ christening today, but Princess Charlotte was always going to steal the show anyway.

–Harvey Weinstein appeared in court and  pled not guilty to new sexual assault charges, and won’t face home confinement. Also, he’s apparently working as a paralegal on his own case.

-The new chief of Warner laid out his vision for HBO — and he basically wants to turn it into Netflix. This is so weird and misguided. HBO has an established and respected brand and tone; Netflix’s original content strategy just seems to be throwing things at the wall and seeing what sticks without worrying about bloat or quality.

–Drake‘s Scorpion is now the first album to reach 1 billion streams in a week. I’m happy for him; I just wish it was a better album.

-Also, Drake‘s new freestyle “Behind Barz” seems to be about Kanye West.

-I’m both impressed and not at all surprised that Lin-Manuel Miranda deals with mean people by being unfailingly cheerful until they feel so bad they end up apologizing.

–Stan Lee has dropped his $1 billion lawsuit against his former company.

-Lawrence is nowhere to be seen and Issa looks like she’s still living with Daniel in the new Insecure promo.

-The ladies of Litchfield try to adjust to life in maximum security in the season 6 trailer for Orange Is The New Black.

-Gross. Jerry O’Connell  is hosting a show called Real Men Watch Bravo this fall, because god forbid we don’t coddle masculine fragility. Straight white dudes exhaust me.

–Sacha Baron Cohen released a short preview of his new Showtime show Who Is America, which he says he’s been undercover secretly filming it for a year. In the clip, he gets Dick Cheney to autograph his “waterboarding kit.”

–Jessica Chastain and James McAvoy are currently shooting the IT sequel in Toronto, and her IG stories make it seem like they’re having a great time. They dined at Kasa Moto on Saturday (so close to my house!) and then she got him to demonstrate proper hand washing technique.

–Emma Stone, Olivia Colman and Rachel Weisz star in the first trailer for The Favourite. (I love that they’re using the British spelling.) It’s from the director of The Lobster, a movie I still haven’t quite wrapped my head around.
