Angelina Jolie and The Weeknd Rumours Continue

–Angelina Jolie and her kids were spotted at the same concert as The Weeknd a week after they had dinner together, leading to renewed speculation they’re dating (even though they’re probably not).

-Speaking of hard-to-believe dating rumours, the one about Tom Cruise and Hayley Atwell has resurfaced.

-This headline makes it seem like it’s about how Kim Kardashian’s style has changed since leaving Kanye West, but it’s actually about how much he seemingly controlled what she wore.

–Millie Bobby Brown is reportedly dating Jon Bon Jovi’s son and wow this kid looks so much like his dad!

–Ariana Grande is honeymooning with Dalton Gomez in Amsterdam.

–Black Widow made a pandemic record $80 million for the U.S. opening and earned another $60 million on Disney+ Premier Access. The standalone superhero movie took in an estimated $218 million globally between ticket sales and Disney+ Premier Access.

-Move over, Selena Gomez. Paris Hilton is getting her own cooking show on Netflix.

-The Hating Game is coming to theatres later this year. I know I need to temper my expectations because it likely won’t be as good as the book but I CANNOT WAIT.

-Three weeks after pleading guilty in his child endangerment case, Drake Bell has been sentenced to two years probation.

–Jodie Turner-Smith‘s jewels were stolen from her hotel room in Cannes. It’s believed she may have been targeted after wearing Gucci jewelry to her premiere. Though that jewelry was taken back after the premiere, the robbers stole jewelry worth tens of thousands of euros, including her mother’s wedding ring.

-I’m not sure I like what Bella Hadid wore to Cannes, but tree boobs are certainly one way to generate buzz.

-French actor Judith Chemla, the 37 year-old French star of Mes freres et moi, will not attend the world premiere of the film at Cannes today after she filed a complaint against the director Yohan Manca (who is also her boyfriend), alleging he threw a phone at her. Uh, maybe he’s the one who shouldn’t go?

-A spokesperson for Lea Seydoux confirmed she tested positive for COVID-19 despite being fully vaccinated and asymptomatic. She will remain in quarantine until her doctors deem her safe to travel to Cannes and attend festival events. Which should be, like, NOT before the fest is over, no?

–Vince Staples and Lil Nas X’s twitter exchange was hilarious. No one is doing socials right now better than this kid.

-Here’s another best TV of the year so far list. I would add We Are Lady Parts to this list, but I love that Girls4eva and Starstruck made it in there.

-The reviews for White Lotus, HBO’s new show that debuted last night, are glowing. It’s about wealthy people ruining the lives of various workers at a Hawaiian resort, and the cast is stacked!

-Speaking of TV reviews, the new season of Ted Lasso is getting praise (though the premiere reportedly gets off to a shaky start with a baffling storytelling decision critics aren’t allowed to spoil).

–Shonda Rhimes just signed a new Netflix deal, earning a “significant” raise.

–Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt are in full promo mode for Jungle Fever, and this morning on GMA they surprised a custodian who got his degree in his 40s to become a teacher.

–Chris Hemsworth recorded the Loki the Frog noise in last weeks’ Loki.

–Jessica Biel is stepping on Jessica Alba‘s turf by launching a wellness brand for kids.

-This is a good piece in the NYT about why lots of people have no plans to go back to the movies. Our theatres are opening again next week (after the longest closure in North America) and I can’t wait, but I get it.

–Jake Johnson says his new comedy indie movie Ride the Eagle is like “a sweeter companion piece” to New Girl, so I’m in.

–Matt Damon says he turned down James Cameron‘s offer of 10 percent of the Avatar profits to star in it, a payday that would have eventually totaled more than $280 million. Oopsie!

-The Good Place alums Kristen Bell and Kirby Howell-Baptiste reunite in the Queenpins trailer.

–Salma Hayek covers the new issue of Variety and reveals that she had COVID-19 so bad that she was put on oxygen and had to self-isolate for seven weeks. She also talks about the NYT essay she wrote about being harassed by Harvey Weinstein. “When I wrote it, I didn’t even know if I was really going to show it to anyone. I kept saying, ‘Who wants to hear my story? Why am I giving myself self-importance?’ ”

–Bennifer is going strong — or are they? The more they’re photographed together, the more I wonder how PR-driven this all is. And then there’s stories like how Ben Affleck is back to wearing the watch Jennifer Lopez gave him 18 years ago or how they were spotted making out between sets at the gym. Who does that?!?

-Meanwhile, Alex Rodriguez is launching makeup for men.

-I’m still trying to wrap my head around the throuple-y looking photos of Rita Ora, Tessa Thompson and Taika Waititi. My first instinct was that they knew the paps were there and were playing it up, but also what an inadvisable flex when in the middle of shooting a huge film for Disney, of all places.

-Oh, I guess Tessa Thompson is just making out with everybody and living her best life.

–Elliot Page’s abs have abs.

–Julianna Margulies says she and George Clooney had such great chemistry on ER because they never hooked up — and then she dropped this bomb: “As he used to say, ‘You don’t shit where you eat.’ What he meant by that was the famous story about Moonlighting with Bruce Willis and Cybill Shepherd. They had sex on the pilot. And then the show got picked up — and then they hated each other. Or David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson [on X-Files]. The same thing happened. And then they hate each other and you’re stuck on a show for seven years together. That’s agony. Life’s too short.” As someone who followed all thing X-Files obsessively for years, I’m not sure this tracks (the only time they really seemed to clash — publicly anyway — was when she was demanding equal pay). Still, I’ll take the tea.

–Seth Rogen says comedians shouldn’t complain about cancel culture: “If you’ve made a joke that’s aged terribly, accept it. And if you don’t think it’s aged terribly, then say that.” How refreshingly logical.

–Lady Gaga spoke candidly about becoming pregnant after surviving sexual assault. The singer explained that it was important to her to share her own painful story – that included turning to self-harm – to let others know there is a path forward.

-Following an investigation, the showrunner of CBS’ Bull is leaving the show, as is actor Freddy Rodriguez.

-I did not have “Finding a profile of Johnny Knoxville to be completely engrossing” on this weeks’ bingo card, but here we are.

–Justin Bieber shaved off his problematic dreadlocks and all is right with the world again.

–Timothee Chalamet has been cast as a young Willy Wonka. Sigh.

–Emily Blunt went viral last week when she seemed to be angry about getting a press junket question about the Fantastic Four, but when you watch the full interview she was actually lovely about it. This stuff is so dumb. There’s a reason actors are asked the same question over and over again at a junket — it’s because their editors have told them to, knowing that topic is going to generate pageviews. There were many times I’d interview someone and cringe-ask a question I didn’t want to, but that’s the game.

–Paul Wesley has no f*cks left to give when he’s asked about his former Vampire Diaries costars, and I love it.

-Legends of Tomorrow is making a Beebo animated special for the holidays. Bless them!

–Adam Scott says he currently staying at his former Parks & Rec costar Aziz Ansari’s apartment.

-This interview with Renée Elise Goldsberry is excellent. “I would 100% be lying to you that I was 35 years old right now if the f*cking internet did not tell every motherf*cker my age.”

–Hugh Grant says Drew Barrymore was ‘so nice‘ in a letter she sent him amid his cheating scandal.

–Lil Nas X had to cut his pole routine short on SNL this weekend when his pants split (“I was doing my little sexy dropdown, and boom, I feel air!”), but he got to do the full routine on the Tonight Show.

–Lindsay Lohan is dipping her toe back into acting with a Netflix holiday movie, which seems like a smart, low-stakes move.

-The podcast My Dad Wrote a Porno is back! This thing used to make me snort laugh on my commute.

-I love how obsessed everyone is over that photograph in Mare of Easttown. I’m still convinced that John is the father of the baby if not also the killer, but I also adore this theory about Lori.

–Niecy Nash and Jessica Betts talked about their first date on Red Table Talk and it’s all kinds of cute. “You weren’t supposed to say that. Damn this red table!”

–Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are said to be planning to take time off and bond as a family of four after what they reportedly hope will be a home birth.

-Did The Rock and Vin Diesel hate each other so much they filmed a Fast 6 scene separately? Who do they think they are, Julianna Margulies and Archie Panjabi??

–Lil Nas X has addressed the accusation that he copied ideas from FKA twigs for his latest music video: “i want to say thank u to twigs for calling me and informing me about the similarities.” twigs also posted about the video: “thank you @lilnasx for our gentle honest conversations and for acknowledging the inspiration”.

-The Oscars will grudgingly allow people to call in from Europe.

-It can’t be overstated how huge the Netfix deal for the Knives Out is. MRC has the rights to the original, but Rian Johnson and producing partner Ram Bergman were smart enough to retain the sequel rights.  They’re rumoured to have total creative control and no budgetary minimums.

–Snoop Dogg is joining The Voice as mentor.

–Alexander Skarsgard continues to be a total delight on the Godzilla Vs Kong press circuit. He’s really leaning into the absurdity of it all.

-I have never heard Ben Affleck‘s Armageddon DVD commentary before, but it’s my favourite new clip.

–Lauren Graham jokingly complained about having her Parenthood brother Dax Shepard as her real-life neighbor. “Dax has been working on his new house and the way we’re situated, I pass him all the time. It’s a beautiful house, it’s going to be incredible, but he basically took what others might consider to be the front lawn and turned it into a massive driveway for all his cars.”

–Tracee Ellis Ross knows how to make Schiaparelli’s wearable art work.

–Lori Petty, David Cross, Enrico Colantoni and Daniel Zovatto among those who’ve been cast on HBO Max’s Station Eleven. I loved that book but am not in the head space to go back into its post-pandemic world anytime soon.
