–Billie Eilish covers the new issue of Elle and opens up about the scrutiny she receives over her looks. “The other day, I decided to wear a tank top. It wasn’t even a provocative shirt. But I know people are going to say, ‘Holy f**k, she’s dressing sexy and trying to make a statement.’ And I’m like, ‘No, I’m not. It’s 500 degrees and I just want to wear a tank top.'” She also talked about losing fans because she changed her style. “I lost 100,000 followers, just because of the boobs. People are scared of big boobs.”

–Camila Cabello organized a letter-writing campaign that got Cate Blanchett, Shawn Mendes, Lady Gaga, Billie Eilish, Hugh Jackman, and 60 entertainers who are demanding Congress take bold action against climate change.

–This interview with Andy Serkis, who directed Venom: Let There Be Carnage, makes me really want to see it. He talks about Eddie and Venom’s relationship in this sequel and says “Absolutely they do love each other and that’s the kind of the center of the movie is that love affair, that central love affair.”

-I’m hearing lots of buzz about Everybody’s Talking About Jamie, a movie about a teen drag queen that just came to Amazon Prime.

-See why Kristen Stewart is generating Oscar buzz for her portrayal of Princess Diana in the first full trailer for Spencer.

–Benedict Cumberbatch plays an artist who became famous for drawing cats in the trailer for The Electrical Life of Louis Wain. I saw this at TIFF and liked it more than I thought I would.

Zendaya Stuns in Venice

-It’s been a very long time since a red carpet outfit made me gasp outloud, but Zendaya’s just did.

-The early reactions to her film Dune seem very mixed. It’s getting lots of praise for its spectacle, but some say it seems too focused on setting up a sequel.

-Meanwhile, Kristen Stewart wore pajamas to her premiere. I don’t hate this but Nicole made a good point — elastic waistbands are never ok on a red carpet.

-Stewart’s movie is also getting mixed reviews, though her performance is already getting Oscar buzz.

-I was bracing for a Friday afternoon before the long weekend news dump, but so far it’s just that Kaley Cuoco and her husband have split.

-I’ve only seen this reported by the Daily Mail so far but rumours have it that Miles Teller tested positive for covid after refusing to get the vaccine, shutting down production of The Godfather spinoff series The Offer. I wonder if he’ll be un-hirable after this? Of course, he already showed his true colours in 2015 when he gave such a terrible interview to Esquire that his costars had to do damage control, and that didn’t seem to matter.

–Drake‘s new album Certified Lover Boy is here. The video for “Way 2 Sexy” made me laugh, so I guess that makes up for hating the song.

-Why did he have to sample R Kelly and give him a writing credit? WHY?

–Paula Cole’s “I Don’t Want to Wait” has been restored on the opening credits of Dawson’s Creek on Netflix. Too bad; I’m sure Jann Arden was enjoying the royalty checks.

–Richard E. Grant is mourning the death of his wife, Joan Washington. She was 71.

-That James Corden-led Cinderella flash mob that disrupted traffic and annoyed everyone aired last night.

-Nick Mohammed talks about what’s happening with Nate this season on Ted Lasso.

-I watched the first episode of Only Murders in the Building with Steve Martin, Selena Gomez and Martin Short, and was surprisingly charmed.

–Kate Walsh is returning to Grey’s Anatomy for a multi-episode arc when the show returns for its 18th season.

-Rick And Morty casts Christopher Lloyd as Rick in a live-action segment. Who else could play him?

-There’s lots of talk about Joe Rogan actually being vaxxed and not saying so. He’s been playing shows in NYC and he’s been doing events for UFC, so wouldn’t he have to be? I just assume all rich people are.

–Prince Harry is calling for increased vaccine education and access, saying “where you’re born should not affect your ability to survive.”

-I’m worried about the pressure being put on Shang-Chi as theatres’ potential pandemic saviour. It’s the first Marvel movie to premiere exclusively in theatres in more than 2 years.

-The Moonfall trailer pits Halle Berry and Patrick Wilson against the moon.

The Stars Arrive in Venice

-God, I didn’t realize how much I missed red carpets until celebrities started turning out in Venice. Gowns are back! Kristen Stewart is wearing white leather pants! Kirsten Dunst is crushing a series of blazers! Put it all in my eyeballs!

–Jennifer Aniston is working on a new beauty brand.

–Britney Spears’ lawyer is accusing her father of trying to “extort” $2 million in payments in exchange for stepping down.

–Lil Nas X did a pregnancy photo shoot for his new album. Gah, I love him.

–Kanye West is sparking cheating rumors with his song “Hurricane,” about his marriage to Kim Kardashian.

-This is a good piece on how Kanye has been exhausting his own fandom for years. “At some point in the past decade—when, exactly, depends on your own taste and patience—Kanye West stopped earning your admiration with his music and started demanding it with everything but.”

-Ted Lasso’s Brett Goldstein hilariously offered “proof” that he’s a real human man.

-Bridgerton’s Regé-Jean Page attended the GQ Men of the Year party with his girlfriend, Emily Brown.

–The Accountant 2 is in the works, with Ben Affleck and Jon Bernthal reportedly attached. I’m gonna need Anna Kendrick to come back before I care.

-Dickinson will return for its third and final season this fall on Apple TV+. 3 seasons was always the plan, according to creator Alena Smith.

-Here’s the trailer for the final season of Insecure, coming Oct 24.

-It’ll be very interesting to see if Hollywood boycotts Texas because of their insane abortion ban.

–Taylor Swift wasn’t joking when she said her Tiktok would be mostly cat videos.

–Olivia Rodrigo reportedly lost out on about $1 million in royalties after giving songwriting credits to Paramore and Taylor Swift.

-Check out all of the first trailer from Amazon’s fantasy adaptation, Wheel of Time. This trailer doesn’t do much for me, but people seem to love these books.

–Patty Jenkins is getting some heat for saying “all of the films that streaming services are putting out, I’m sorry, they look like fake movies to me…I don’t hear about them, I don’t read about them. It’s not working as a model for establishing legendary greatness.” I mean, I don’t think most streaming movies have moved beyond generic-looking action (see the below trailer), but streaming is where the film world is going so, I don’t know, maybe try to make one that’s better?
