Adele Gets Ready for SNL

-Here’s our first look at Adele on SNL. I’m both looking forward to this episode and dreading the conversation about it.

Jennifer Aniston posted a photo of her casting her election ballot early and she had a message for fans: “It’s not funny to vote for Kanye. I don’t know how else to say it. Please be responsible.”

-In a podcast interview, Jennifer Lawrence says it took her a while to get over falling at the Oscars. “I can look back at it now fondly but for a very long time the fall thing was very sensitive. Anderson Cooper, I saw him on CNN three days later saying, ‘Well she obviously faked the fall,’ and it was so devastating because it was this horrific humiliation to me. I don’t know if I’ll ever have a chance to give a speech like that again, so it didn’t feel good for me not to have a speech.”

-She also said her husband doesn’t mind that she kicks him to the guest room when she has “slumber parties, like, once a week” with her friends. In a pandemic tho?

-This year has been rough, but the ladies of pop are determined to get us through it by releasing new music. First came Taylor, then Demi, and now Ariana Grande.  With just 10 days to go before the U.S. election, she’s offering us a vision of what life would be like if she were in charge in her new video for “Positions”.

Miley Cyrus is also getting in on the action, announcing a new album that’ll be released Nov 27.

Joshua Jackson and Jodie Turner-Smith continue to be the best celebrity couple.

Matthew McConaughey talked to Howard Stern about how his mom repeatedly sold him out once he became famous. He’s incredibly forgiving.

-The funniest thing about Robert Downey Jr.‘s post supporting Chris Pratt is that he cropped Tom Holland out of the photo. They’re so close that they have … literally no photos together.

Sacha Baron Cohen appeared on GMA, along with Borat 2 costar Maria Bakalova, and talked about the scene with Rudy Giuliani. “If the president’s lawyer found what he did there appropriate behavior then heaven knows what he’s doing with other female journalists in hotel rooms. I just urge everyone to watch the movie. It is what it is. He did what he did.” He added that he was “quite concerned” for Bakalova during the scene because he was hiding nearby and monitoring the situation via text. “It’s my responsibility as a producer as well to ensure that the lead actor is looked after.”

Christine Baranski plays Scrooge to Dolly Parton‘s angel in the trailer for Netflix’s upcoming holiday musical Christmas on the Square.

-Speaking of Netflix holiday movies, the Dash & Lily trailer is super cute.

-So we’re still pretending that Paul GreengrassNews of the World, starring Tom Hanks, is coming out in theatres at Christmas, huh?

-Meanwhile, there’s lots of whispers about the studio behind James Bond shopping it to streaming sites and the numbers floating around are insane — like 200-600 million dollars insane.

Kaley Cuoco may be a murderer in the trailer for The Flight Attendant, coming to HBO Max and Crave next month.

Kaley Cuoco Admits to Nose, Boob Job

***NOTE: I need to go someplace warm and veg by a pool for a few days. I’ll be back next week!***

-In a new magazine interview, Kaley Cuoco readily admits that she’s had her nose and breasts done and it’s … weirdly refreshing? That’s where I am with celebrities at this point: pleasantly surprised when they’re not lying their faces off. Sigh.

-Surprise! Nick Cannon confirmed he’s expecting a baby with his ex-girlfriend Brittany Bell.

Drake‘s crush on sports reporter Doris Burke might be my new favourite thing. “Dinner at my house anytime. As long as she comes alone.”

-Damn, Tom Hiddleston. When you have to dress up in an ape suit to hype your new movie, that’s probably not a good sign.

-Twist! The creator of Gilmore Girls just revealed that Luke was originally written to be a female character.

Eddie Redmayne says he auditioned for Les Miserables with Taylor Swift and she was “extraordinary.” But not extraordinary enough to get cast, I guess…

Isla Fisher poked fun of the fact that no one can tell her apart from Amy Adams by pasting Amy’s face over hers on her family holiday card.

-This is a good look at the strange disappearance of Ed, the wonderful charmbomb of a show that time forgot. Now excuse me while I go and rewatch Ed and Carol’s wedding in the finale. *sob*

-Yay! Another new Childish Gambino song has dropped. It’s Prince-y.

-I really liked this conversation between Sarah Jessica Parker, Julianna Margulies and Chelsea Handler about girl breakups. I’m not sure I agree with Margulies that women are more emotional than men. I just think that sometimes female friendships run deeper, but we don’t talk about them or analyze them like we do our relationships, so when shit goes sideways it knocks us down hard.

-This article on how TV is entering film territory when it comes to actor (and showrunner) paydays is nuts. Robert De Niro is getting $750,000 per episode for an upcoming Amazon series, while Meryl Streep is scoring $850k per episode of JJ Abrams’ The Nix, which doesn’t even have a network attached yet.

-Good dress on Nicole Kidman here.

-The international trailer for La La Land has arrived. Also, they released Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone’s duet, which was in my head on repeat for weeks after seeing that movie.

-Oh yeah, The Affair returns this weekend. I really liked last season — and then promptly forgot all about it.

Jessica Chastain hides people from Nazis in her giant zoo in the new trailer for The Zookeeper’s Wife.

Best and Worst Dresses at 2016 SAG Awards

There were a lot of messes on the 2106 SAG Awards red carpet, but there were some winners too. Here are Nicole and my picks for best and worst dressed of the night:

BEST

After a big misstep with the white apron dress, Alicia Vikander‘s Louis Vuitton sequinned column dress is two in a row for gorgeous gowns this season. Her shiny, straight hair compliments the dress and simple bronze makeup nails the look. She’s probably my favourite of the night, especially when she turned on the red carpet and I saw the thigh-high slit. -Nicole

I have never, ever liked anything Gaby Hoffman has worn on a red carpet – but that changed tonight. Her Rachel Comey dress was weird and unique and super flattering. Add the punk hair (with visible greys!) and she was a total boss. She also recycled her shoes from a recent event.  I adore her. -Jen

I have loved Rachel McAdams‘ choices this season and her SAG Elie Saab gown is classically stunning. I do wish she’d worn a brighter lip but the un-fussy hair balanced out the structured dress. It’s super well done and the second time she’s been on my best list this season and impressively for a very different dress. -Nicole

Once again, Queen Latifah owns the red carpet. She’s the picture of simple elegance in a shimmery Michael Costello gown. -Jen

I’m not usually a fan of lace dresses, but Naomi Watts in blue Burberry is a vision. (And I’m not just saying that because it’s a longer version of an H&M dress that I’ve had for like, 8 years and every time I wear it someone compliments me on it – including Gillian Anderson!) -Jen

WORST

Dresses from this Gucci collection have turned up all over lately, including Dakota Johnson on The Tonight Show. I keep thinking that these dresses look as though they have walked out of a cartoon and Nicole Kidman‘s is no exception. The tiers are too fussy. -Nicole

Pairing a painful-looking topknot with a cheap-looking Romana Kevesa dress (featuring a figure skating outfitish mesh panel) was more than enough to secure Kaley Cuoco a spot on our worst dressed list. -Jen

I bemoaned the lack of lip colour tonight and I’ll give Quantico’s Priyanka Chopra props for her gorgeous lipstick. But this pink confection of a pouffy Monique Lhuillier dress is not my favourite. It’s very prom-y and does not do this beautiful girl justice. -Nicole

I don’t understand how stars can end up on a red carpet in an ill-fitting, poorly tailored dress. Sarah Silverman‘s Vivenne Westwood dress is the wrong colour, the wrong hemline, and worst of all, the wrong fit. (Gwedoline Christie‘s dress had the same issue.) -Jen

I saw Brie Larson‘s Versace dress from behind and thought the orange suspender detail was cute. Unfortunately the front was so fussy and busy that it all fell apart for me. She also looks so, so painfully thin. I’ve not been sold on Brie’s choices this awards season so here’s hoping she pulls it together for the big one.  -Nicole
