Bennifer Take Their Love to Venice

–Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck have taken their PDA tour pubic with a spin on the Venice red carpet. I need them to do this at the Met Gala on Monday. I NEED IT!

-Speaking of the Met Gala, rumour is that Rihanna will be there. Her incredible photoshoot for Dazed magazine is just what we needed to kick off the weekend.

–Katy Perry is on the cover of LVR Magazine and talks about how motherhood has changed her. “She is everything I was ever looking for”

–Prince Andrew has finally been served court papers over his sex accuser’s lawsuit — after his security was initially ordered not to accept them.

-Queen Of The Stone Age frontman Josh Homme‘s children filed a restraining order against him. His 10-year-old and 5-year-old sons detailed allegations of physical and emotional abuse. But the restraining order was denied by two judges, and Homme’s lawyer blamed his ex, The Distillers’ Brody Dalle, for prompting the “spurious claims.”

-TMZ is reporting that Kate Beckinsale was sent to the hospital when her back went out while shooting a film in Vegas.

–Olivia Munn opened up about being pregnant in an interview with Mario Lopez. (Unfortunately, she keep completely mum about become a mom at her TIFF q&a).

-Dear Evan Hansen reviews coming out of TIFF are wild. People either HATED it or thought it was amazing.

-HBO’s Scenes From a Marriage remake, which debuts this weekend on HBO and stars Jessica Chastain and Oscar Isaac, is getting great reviews.

-There’s a new featurette on the upcoming season of The Morning Show. Billy Crudup remains the only one who truly understands the assignment.

Regina King Brings Back the Buzz

–Regina King graces the October cover of Vanity Fair. I feel like she got robbed of lots of Oscar buzz last year because the awards circuit was so quiet, so I’m hoping she gets to make up for it with The Harder They Fall. (“It won’t be like One Night in Miami….” She pauses, and I hear tears in her voice. “We never got the opportunity to see our film with an audience. I’m grateful to be healthy. I’m grateful that all of our crew and cast are healthy. We got to be in so many different festivals…but we didn’t get a chance to share that, except through this,” she says, indicating the virtual realm. “That was disappointing. But everything is for a reason. I try not to question God’s will.”) Also, this photoshoot is awesome. That gold skirt!!

-In THR’s new cover story, Benedict Cumberbatch discusses staying in character as a meanie while shooting Netflix’s The Power of the Dog. “[Director Jane Campion] introduced me to the crew as Phil and said, ‘You’ll meet Benedict at the end. Benedict’s really nice. Phil is Phil.’ And it just gave me carte blanche to say, ‘No.’ To be Phil, really. To stand in his shoes.”

-Congrats to Jennifer Lawrence and Cooke Maroney, who are expecting their first child.

–Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez have arrived in Venice for the premiere of his new movie.

–Jessica Chastain laughed off the hysteria surrounding Oscar Isaac‘s arm kiss. “We have all been locked in our houses for so long. When this video went viral, I was like, people just need to see people touch and hold each other.”

-Gossip Girl got renewed for season two, which is genuinely surprising to me. I felt like the buzz (and any critical admiration) fell off a cliff after the first few episodes.

-The Met Gala is Monday night and there’s still rumours about the guest list. One star who won’t be attending: Zendaya.

-Netflix will be bringing a Bridgerton fan experience to select cities next year. I want it!

-The is an interesting look at how the depiction of suicide on TV is changing.

-I think I would actually love this outfit on pretty much anyone else but Katie Holmes. It’s just not her.

-TIFF starts today! Here are my picks for the 10 buzziest films, most of which are hitting theatres or streaming very soon.

–Keira Knightley’s dark holiday film, which I’m seeing next week, has already sold at the festival.

-I’m not going to be able to watch any TV for the next week, but it feels like everything is debuting, including Jessica Chastain and Oscar Isaac‘s HBO show Scenes from a Marriage, FX’s long-awaited Y: The Last Man, and the VMAs.

-Speaking of the VMAs, Nicky Minaj just pulled out.

-Aw man. Phoebe Waller-Bridge has left the Mr & Mrs Smith project she was going to do with Donald Glover for Amazon.

-Netflix must have been more impressed with Addison Rae’s performance in He’s All That than critics were; they just signed her to a multi-movie deal.

-Watch Demi Lovato and friends search for UFOs in the trailer for Peacocks’ Unidentified.

-The Princess Diana content keeps flooding in. Netflix released the first trailer for Diana: The Musical, which will premiere in October ahead of the show’s return to Broadway.

–Jason Sudeikis is doing a Ted Lasso-y accent in the South of Heaven trailer while playing a very non-Ted Lasso character, and it’s breaking my brain.

-The Matrix Resurrections dropped its first trailer early Thursday morning. I have no idea what’s happening in it but I’m in!

–Zendaya covers the October issue of British Vogue, styled by Law Roach. Between Dune and Spider-Man promotion, she’s everywhere right now and I don’t hate it.

–In GQ, Regé-Jean Page talks about what’s next for his career, breaks down his favourite pieces from his own wardrobe, and says he’s moved on from the show that made him famous. “The universe has expanded. So I’m no longer in the Bridgerton WhatsApp group.”

-Goddamit. Michael K. Williams, who starred in everything from The Wire, Boardwalk Empire, Community and Lovecraft Country was found dead on Monday afternoon inside of his Brooklyn residence.

–Angelina Jolie spoke to The Guardian mostly about her activism, but the article is getting more attention for the gross way the writer opens it, and her brief mention of being “hurt” when then-husband Brad Pitt worked with Harvey Weinstein despite knowing the producer had tried to assault her.

-The publicists for Jessica Chastain and Oscar Isaac‘s new HBO show must have popped champagne when they realized that this slo-mo gif of him kissing her arm on the red carpet went viral. (They’re actors and they’re both very good at acting and promotion, but damn that response underlines just how starved we are for a pair that has good onscreen chemistry.)

-Chastain posted a cheeky response to the hubhub. He later held her purse on a different red carpet because again, they’re very good at this.

-Speaking of things that caused the internet to melt down this long weekend, Olivia Munn was papped and appears to be pregnant, which has led to lots of speculation about the timeline of her and John Mulaney‘s relationship. A tiktok has resurfaced that a comedian posted back in May about the pair expecting, right after that news of his split from his wife came out.

-It feels like a good time to revisit this piece about fans’ connection to Mulaney, and the parasocial cloud that now seems to surround him.

-Emily in Paris star Lily Collins got married in Colorado over the weekend, and People has the photos.

-Expect a lot less filler episodes in the new season of Survivor. The competition will only be 26 days long instead of the usual 39 days due to a two-week Covid quarantine for the cast and crew, but host Jeff Probst says the change could be permanent.

–Michaela Coel says she turned down Netflix’s $1 million deal due to due to a “lack of transparency,” “exploitation” and their refusal to let her own the copyright for I May Destroy You.

-Meanwhile, Coel looks incredible on the cover of Elle UK.

–Patrick Wilson looks like Momoa-lite on the set of Aquaman 2. I kept hearing some not-great things about Momoa during his summer filming here, so maybe Wilson can take over?

-Ok fine, Momoa’s new Aquaman suit has won me back.

-Marvel’s Shang Chi (which I really dug) crushed box office expectations, which might convince Disney to keep The Eternals in theatres only.

–A new fan site for The Matrix: Resurrections generates a unique teaser video featuring footage and narration from the sequel. Right now, if you click on the blue pill you get Neil Patrick Harris’ character saying, “you’ve lost your capacity to discern reality from fiction,” but if you choose the red pill and enter the matrix, you hear Yahya Abdul-Mateen II’s voice telling you the current time and saying that “couldn’t be further from the truth.” Both options give you different glimpses of footage.

-The Carrie Diaries’ Anna Sophia Robb announced on Instagram that she’s engaged, and this pic is so much better than the ultra-staged ones we usually get.

–Friends of Jean-Michel Basquiat are not happy with Beyoncé and Jay-Z for their use of a painting by the late American artist their Tiffany & Co ad.

–Selena Gomez is on a group chat with her Only Murders costars Steve Martin and Martin Short — but it’s over email.

-Want to attend the Met Gala? For the first time ever, it will be live-streamed by Vogue on Sept 13. The stream will be hosted by hosted by Keke Palmer and Ilana Glazer.

-The reviews are glowing for Apple TV+’s filmed performance of the musical Come From Away.

–Janet Jackson promises to tell her own story in the teaser for Janet, a two-night documentary coming to Lifetime.

–Jake Gyllenhaal plays a 911 operator who receives distressing call in trailer for The Guilty. I’m seeing this next week at TIFF and I don’t know if my blood pressure can handle it.
