Brad Pitt Cleans Up Nice

brad-pitt-gq

Brad Pitt is on the cover of Australian GQ and this the best he’s looked in years. He talks about shooting Once Upon a Time in Hollywood with Burt Reynolds (“We had two days of rehearsal with him and just to sit and talk and he was just… you know, they say don’t meet your heroes but he was just so gracious and kind. And still just funny as fuck”) and why he produces more than acts these days (“I keep doing less and less. I really believe that overall it’s a younger man’s game – not that there aren’t substantial parts for older characters – I just feel, the game itself, it’ll move on naturally”).

-Expect the Once Upon a Time in Hollywood hype machine to kick into high gear in the next few weeks, especially considering it’s tracking for a $30 million opening weekend — which is modest considering it stars Pitt and Leonardo DiCaprio. I guess people aren’t as interested in sitting through a 2-1/2 hour movie about white dudes in the “good ol’ days” as they used to be.

Lea Michele has a new ‘Finn’ tattoo to commemorate Cory Monteith.

Jake Gyllenhaal might actually be losing it on this press junket.

Sophie Turner and Joe Jonas released a wedding photo, which gives us a closer look at her Louis Vuitton dress. It’s not what I was expecting (I thought she’d go younger and edgier) but it’s very lovely.

-Speaking of wedding dresses, here’s a look at Katharine McPhee‘s ultra-fluffy Zac Posen gown.

Katherine might not be liking that Sophie and Joe stole her Paris wedding spotlight; she tweeted to the paparazzi which yacht they are honeymooning on.

Sebastian Stan shading Gwyneth Paltrow is *chef’s kiss*

Idris Elba set the record straight after two writers claimed they were pushed out of his play.

Emma Portner, a choreographer and Ellen Page’s wife, blasted Justin Bieber on social media, accusing him of being terrible to work with. “I couldn’t afford to eat. I was sweeping studio floors to be able to practice my own craft. The way you degrade women is an abomination.”

Julia Roberts and her fam are vacationing in Ontario cottage country.

Carly Rae Jepsen recorded a disco album that will “probably never be released,” which seems unnecessarily cruel.

-I’m not sure when Shailene Woodley turned into a fashionista but I’m here for it.

-Despite Meghan Markle and Prince Harry‘s wishes to have Archie’s godparents private, the Church of England is making all details of the baptism public for anyone who is willing to pay the fee.

-Of course Ryan Reynolds turned his Bottleneck Challenge video into an ad for his gin. Of course he did.

Helen Mirren, Ian McKellen, and Russell Tovey star in the trailer for The Good Lie.

Kristen Stewart Goes Glam Charlie’s Angels Trailer

-The first Charlie’s Angels trailer actually looks like a blast. (I just listened to the I Hate It But I Love It episode about the last Charlie’s Angels movie and realized how gross it could be, so I’m comforted by the fact that these girls say “Hello, Charlie” in a very straight-forward, non-flirty way.)

-In his new Vanity Fair cover story, Idris Elba talks about being disheartened by the reaction to rumours he’d take on Bond, and taking a role in the adaptation of the Broadway musical Cats (“I’m not a ‘singer.’ I’ve made music with singing. I’m musical…I’m an actor. I’ve never done it before, so I thought, ‘Why not?'”)

Jake Gyllenhaal stanning for Sean Paul is the best thing you’ll see on the internet today.

-Queer Eye’s Jonathan Van Ness tried to tame David Letterman‘s wild beard.

Kim Kardashian responded to the backlash against naming her shapewear line Kimono (and trying to trademark the term) in a statement that uses lots of words like “inclusion” and “diversity” but doesn’t really seem to recognize the cultural appropriation or apologize for anything.

-It’s been long enough that I can assume you’ve all watched season 2 of Fleabag, right? (If you haven’t, get on it! It’s only six 22-minute episodes, so you can crank it out in a night!) I’ve watched Kristin Scott Thomas’ monologue on how women are born with pain built in multiple times.  I love this interview with Andrew Scott and Phoebe Waller-Bridge on creating their chemistry, and this is probably the best article (of the many, many I read) about the show’s amazing use of the fourth wall.

Paul Rudd is joining the cast of Jason Reitman‘s Ghostbusters 2020, which he announced in this cute video.

-Nearly four months after it was cancelled by Netflix, One Day At A Time was saved by cable channel Pop. The landmark deal will see season four air there first before airing on CBS later.

-Speaking of shows that air on Pop in the US, this is a lovely story on the impact Schitt’s Creek has had on Goodwood, Ont., where fans flock to see the sets and stars.

-Spider-Man: Far From Home is getting pretty good reviews.

-The man who accused Kevin Spacey of sexually assaulting him in a bar in 2016 has filed a civil lawsuit against the actor.

Salma Hayek is in early talks to join Marvel’s The Eternals. At this point, they should just list the actors NOT rumoured to be in this movie.

George and Amal Clooney continue to live their best lives.

-The stars of Legends of Tomorrow openly mocking the fact that the CW didn’t invite them to ComicCon is a mood.

-I liked this article about the pros and cons of bringing back our fave TV shows and characters.

Joel Kinnaman plays a snitch caught between the mob and the FBI in the trailer for The Informer.

The Internet Reacts to Jessica Biel’s Anti-Vaxxer Comments

[programming note — I’m taking a few days off. Be back June 19th!]

Jessica Biel was spotted out having a good time with Justin Timberlake last night when her anti-vaxx views hit the fan. She then made an  an Instagram post, and claimed that she is “not against vaccinations” and that her “concern” with the bill “is solely regarding medical exemptions”. Except, as many people have pointed out, the bill she’s fighting doesn’t stop doctors exempting children who have genuine medical reasons. It’s designed for people to stop trying to bribe their doctors for a BS exemption. This is not her first time talking about this, and it still makes no sense.

-Twitter reacted harshly to Biel’s statement. Also, she’s probably the anti-vaxx actress Mindy Kaling referenced in her book, right??

Cuba Gooding Jr has turned himself in and is now in custody after the actor was accused of forcefully touching a woman’s chest while they were at a club.

Justin Bieber decided that maybe picking a fight with Tom Cruise wasn’t his best idea ever.

-Despite having a massive following on Instagram, Selena Gomez is so over the platform’s negativity she deleted the app from her phone.

Idris Elba has a new hobby — stunt car driver.

Nicholas Sparks didn’t want a club for gay students at his prep school. Let’s just stop reading romance from white dudes.

Nicolas Winding Refn‘s Amazon show Too Old To Die Young starring Miles Teller is confusing critics — mostly because they were only given the 4th and 5th episode to screen.

Bryan Singer has agreed to pay $150K to settle a rape allegation made against him stemming from an incident on a yacht in 2003.

-Several actors have been disqualified from Emmys voting for breaking the rules.

-I know it’s ridiculous, but I’m here for the Keanu Reeves and Angelina Jolie romance rumours!

-In today’s “humanity is doomed” news: The creator of the Chernobyl series on HBO is asking people to stop taking sultry selfies at the nuclear disaster site.

-The Orphan Black storyline will continue with Tatiana Maslany voicing a new podcast series.

-This is fun: Daniel Radcliffe has joined the Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt interactive special.

-I adore this feature on 25 episodes that changed television.

Keira Knightley stars in the Official Secrets trailer.
