Nicole Kidman Looks Ageless on Marie Claire

Nicole-Kidman-Marie-Claire-October-2018

-This Nicole Kidman cover photo from Marie Claire looks like it could have been taken 20 years ago (as do the accompanying pics). It’s the same in her new movie Destroyer — for which she’s absolutely getting an Oscar nod — which switches between a time when she’s a fresh-faced cop, to when she’s near the end of her career and looks and moves like she’s 70. We had really, really good seats to the Q&A and she looks pretty damn great in real life these days.

Gwyneth Paltrow posted a photo from the set of Avengers 4  with Robert Downey Jr. (I had no idea that Pepper and Tony’s ship name was Pepperony — but that’s *adorable*).

-Wait, Justin Bieber and Hailey Baldwin really did get married at a courthouse last week? She denied it, but People is sticking with their story.

Adam Driver will host the SNL premiere, with Kanye West as the musical guest.

Sean Penn says the #MeToo movement “is to divide men and women.” He explains, “We don’t know what’s a fact in many of the cases. Salacious is as soon as you call something a movement that is really a series of many individual accusers, victims, accusations, some of which are unfounded.” I mean, who is asking Sean Penn of all people to comment on this? The man has a long history of anger issues and arrests (and possible abuse). How dare he even pretend his opinion matters here?

-In other “the world is terrible and has learned nothing” news, Bryan Singer is in talks to direct Red Sonja despite all the lawsuits, sexual misconduct allegations, and also the fact that he was fired from his last movie, Bohemian Rhapsody, for not showing up for days. Red Sonja is an iconic female comic heroine — how are they not getting a woman to direct this potential franchise-starter?! But no — according to THR, “Sources say Millennium will pay Singer top dollar for the assignment, which is seen as a step toward rehabilitating the director’s image.”

-Meanwhile, here’s an interesting piece on why TIFF rejected a 2014 documentary about sexual abuse in Hollywood that included the allegations against Singer.

-This piece on what women want from Jian Ghomeshi nails it: “Going away for a while” is not the same as “atonement.”

Tom Arnold and Survivor producer Mark Burnett got into some kind of scuffle at an Emmy pre-party on Sunday night. Burnett’s wife Roma Downey claims she got hurt when Arnold “tried to ambush” them, to which Arnold responded “Bullshit. You lie your crazy husband attacked me you psycho. I’m filing police report & suing you for defamation.” Oh and Patton Oswald and Kevin Bacon witnessed the whole thing.

-I’m so here for Angelina Jolie to star in a revenge thriller.

-I’m not surprised that Green Book won the top prize at TIFF (the audience went crazy at the screening I was at), but I’m predicting a major backlash to this film before the Oscar campaign wraps up.

-The Supergirl blooper reel has a bit where Melissa Benoist falls asleep and starts snoring during a scene, and I’ve never related to an actress more.

-Man, a lot of the prestige TV that’s debuting over the next few weeks has divided critics. Some love Emma Stone and Jonah Hill in Netflix’s Maniac; others not so much. They’re also split on Maya Rudolph and Fred Armisen’s Forever, and Hulu’s The First with Sean Penn.

-The first look at Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker movie did not go over well this weekend.

Cate Blanchett played “Fill in the Blanchett” on Ellen, and talked about how she’s “deeply uncool” in her household.

-Here’s the first full trailer for Mary Poppins Returns. Ok, I’m in.

Zoë Kravitz Goes Makeup-Free for Harper’s Bazaar

zoe-kravitz-no-makeup-harpers-bazaar

Zoë Kravitz goes completely unretouched (and looks phenomenal) on her new Harper’s Bazaar cover. She talks about previous magazine Photoshop experiences: “I did a cover of a magazine once and noticed that my eyes were this beautiful hazel-green color, which would be great, but they’re not that color! Little things like that. I’ve seen my hands be changed before. It makes you think, “What’s wrong with my hands? Or my eyes?”

-So, despite those reports, Hailey Baldwin is denying that she and Justin Bieber got married this week.

Ariana Grande posted a very sweet IG video of Mac Miller, saying “I’m so sorry I couldn’t fix it or take your pain away.”

Lady Gaga reveals what she thinks is her #1 look ever in Vogue’s 73 questions. Spoiler alert: it wasn’t the meat dress. (Sidenote: is this the most stationary 73Q segment ever? I wanna see her house!)

-In a recent interview, Bradley Cooper addressed the news that A Star Is Born producer Jon Peters has been sued by at least five former employees for sexual harassment.

-This interview with TATBILB’s Noah Centineo (“the best thirst architect the internet’s ever seen”) is great. I LOVE that the author made him recreate the pocket spin with her!

Meaghan Markle is reportedly having trouble figuring out which of her friends she can trust, while her former Suits costars are struggling with being asked about her all the time. (I get it; we saw Patrick Adams hanging out at TIFF and it was hard not to bug him about it.)

Cardi B hits back at Nicki Minaj’s payola claims. (Is payola still a thing? Radio plays don’t seem to matter much these days…)

-Modern Family will kill off a main character in Season 10. Wait, Modern Family is still on?!?

-God, I love that Candice Patton of The Flash is calling out DC/Funko for releasing figurines for only the show’s male characters. Even Wally West got one? Come on.

-First Brandon Routh‘s wife, now Stephen Amell’s wife. If you want a role on the CW, just marry one of its stars.

-For reasons I can’t begin to comprehend, the New York Review of Books let Jian Ghomeshi write a self-pitying, self-pardoning reflection on his ouster from Canadian media. (I love that everyone is circulating a link to this PDF instead of the actual article itself to avoid contributing to its pageviews.) It is so tone-deaf that it has to be seen to be believed (it begins with a woman *apologizing to him* for bringing up what he did, and ends with him congratulating himself for meeting a woman on a train and not trying to hook up with her). Many people much smarter than I am have pointed out the piece’s problems, but I think my issue with his article — and Louis C.K.’s return and all of these comebacks and handwringing about their reputations/future — is that not one of these men are actually acknowledging that they’ve contemplated the hurt they’ve caused their victims and/or learned from it. Dan Harmon‘s apology and subsequent actions is the only guy that comes to mind.

-Meanwhile, my favourite reaction is Roxanne Gay’s tweet: “I wonder which publication will give a victim of sexual harassment or violence 7,000 words to discuss her or his experience.”

Julie Chen signed off Big Brother last night as “Julie Chen Mooves” so…yeah.

-Is Jake Gyllenhall the patron saint of movies? First he helped the latest Halloween movie get off the ground, and now comes word that he also helped If Beale Street Could Talk happen.

John Goodman and Vera Farmiga star in the Captive State trailer.

Justin Bieber and Hailey Baldwin Enjoy An Ice Cream Date in Canada

Justin Bieber and Hailey Baldwin were spotted in his hometown of Stratford, Ont. this weekend.

-Did Chloë Grace Moretz imply that she found out about then-boyfriend Brooklyn Beckham kissing Playboy model Lexi Wood through push notifications? She told The Sunday Times, “Breakups are hard across the board. But when every verified account on Twitter posts something about me, I get tagged. And every major publication is verified. So anytime they post something about a certain relationship, it pops up on my phone, which is how I find out about 90% of things.”

-Chloë also thinks her shelved Louis C.K. film ‘should just go away‘, which makes a lot of sense.

Robin Wright and Clement Giraudet got married in a low-key ceremony over the weekend.

Ruby Rose is the latest star to be hounded off social media after a fan backlash. Stupid fandoms.

-Celebrities are tweeting their love for Aretha Franklin, who is reportedly very ill.

-I watched the Teen Choice Awards last night and felt INCREDIBLY. OLD.  There were so many Youtube “stars”, guys!

-Not that we should look to Lindsay Lohan for sane, measured takes on real-world issues, but she still probably shouldn’t have implied that when women speak out against sexual harassment and assault, “it makes them look weak.

Chris Hardwick started last night’s Talking Dead episode by tearfully addressing the sexual assault and abuse claims made against him. Not surprisingly, he didn’t mention the several staffers who resigned in protest. Watch the video of him crying here, if that’s your thing.

-Meanwhile, the Nerdist website continues to distance itself from Hardwick.

Stephen Colbert says there was no pushback from CBS when he discussed Les Moonves on The Late Show. “As soon as I heard the article came out, I knew that I’d have to talk about it on Monday night because we talk about everything. That’s kind of all I worked on that Monday was what I wanted to say, and about a half an hour before we taped we told CBS. We said ‘We’re gonna do this, and we’re going to do this.’ And there was no pushback. Nobody said a damn thing.”

Chris Hemsworth and Chris Pine are in a financial deadlock with Paramount that could end with them leaving the Star Trek franchise.

-Crazy Rich Asian star Awkwafina shared the story of how a music video she uploaded to YouTube called “My Vag” helped kick off her career.

-A bunch of British actresses depict how brutal the audition process can be.

This is a good take on Disney’s latest casting controversy.

-I am so very here for Amanda Bynes’ comeback. I always liked that kid and am rooting for her.

-Follow with me now: DL Hughley says he once had an affair and she got pregnant, and he prayed the baby would go away, but then the child was murdered at nine months by his mistresses’ boyfriend, and then DL’s wife found out years later and felt bad and began paying the mistress.

-This list of movies that Tom Cruise reportedly passed on is fascinating.

Nicki Minaj just released the music video for “Ganja Burn,” and it centers around a tale of biblical-level beef.

Lupita Nyong’o and Saoirse Ronan hang out in beautiful apartments to sell perfume for Calvin Klein.

-The new Happytime Murders red band trailer is so incredibly NSFW, which is weird considering that all the dirty parts involve puppets.
