Johnny Depp Asked To Leave Fantastic Beasts

–Johnny Depp has been forced out of the Fantastic Beasts franchise in the wake of his recent libel case loss in the UK. Depp confirmed the news on Instagram: “I wish to let you know that I have been asked to resign by Warner Bros. from my role as Grindelwald in Fantastic Beasts and I have respected and agreed to that request.”

–Hailey Bieber says that Us Weekly is about to post a story that she’s pregnant, but she insists it’s not true.

-Crazy Rich Asians hottie Henry Golding and his wife are expecting their first child.

-In an unprecedented twist, Bachelorette star Clare Crawley wrapped her journey early by getting engaged to her frontrunner, Dale Moss, and exited the show. (FWIW, there are Deux Moi reports that he’s already back in the dating pool.)

-The “Netflix Direct linear channel” is being tested in France. The streamer says “many viewers like the idea of programming that doesn’t require them to choose what they are going to watch.” So basically Netflix is testing going back to regular TV? Time is a flat circle.

–Al Roker announced on the Today Show that he’s been diagnosed with prostate cancer.

–Brie Larson doesn’t believe there is a beauty standard which is … a choice.

-I don’t watch Supernatural but I’m very happy for all my Tumblr mutuals that Destiel became canon last night. (Or at least one guy admitted he’s in love with the other guy in this scene.) Also, it’s hilarious how many commenters on this article are trying to explain away the gay.

–Donald Glover is very confident about the next seasons of Atlanta, tweeting “sopranos only ones who can touch us.”

-Tobey Maguire and Jennifer Meyer announced their split four years ago, and are finally moving ahead with divorce proceedings.

-I had no idea Will & Grace’s Sean Hayes could play the piano like this.

-Disney has removed Ryan Reynolds‘ Free Guy and Gal Gadot‘s Death on the Nile from the 2020 release calendar. Wonder Woman 1984 is the last blockbuster standing (though it will surely be moved soon).

–Stephen Colbert getting choked up when talking about Trump’s ridiculous speech got me. “We all knew he would do this. What I didn’t know is that it would hurt so much. I didn’t expect this to break my heart.”

-I love that everyone is discovering Stacy Abrams’ romance novels.

-The cast of Family Ties is the latest to reunite for charity.

–Felicity Huffman should maybe stay away from college-themed apparel for a while.

–Lori Loughlin could be released from prison early because of course.

–Christine and the Queens appeared on James Corden‘s show last night and I’ve already watched this performance five times today.

Dominic West Defends Marriage Following Lily James Pics

-I mean, is there anything else to talk about today than what went down with Dominic West over the weekend? The Daily Mail published photos of The Affair actor (lol) in Rome canoodling with Lily James, his costar in a new BBC adaptation of The Pursuit of Love (he plays her father). The Daily Mail was quick with a followup about how West’s wife, Catherine Fitzgerald (who — let’s not forget — owns a freakin’ castle!) was shocked and devastated. However, West and Fitzgerald presented a united front this morning when they greeted the press outside their home with a handwritten note saying they’re “very much still together.” I’m not sure if they have an open relationship or they’ve worked it out or they’re trying to save face, but I am glad that their bizarre press conference made his name trend instead of the previously trending James (who was last rumoured to be dating Chris Evans).

–Offset reportedly rented a billboard for Cardi B‘s birthday — and it seems to have worked. The nearly divorced couple were seen kissing and dancing at her 28th birthday party (and after-party) in Vegas.

-My god, Demi Lovato’s ex is never going to give up the spotlight, is he?

-In a powerful New York Times op-ed, Megan Thee Stallion addressed the election, sexism, police brutality, and violence against women: “We deserve to be protected… and we are entitled to our anger.”

–Gloria Estefan and her daughter Emily had a tough discussion about Emily’s coming-out on Red Table Talk. Emily remembers: “The first thing you said was ‘If you tell your grandmother and she dies, her blood is on your hands.'”

–Gal Gadot has been cast in the upcoming Cleopatra movie from Wonder Woman director Patty Jenkins — and Twitter was quick to call it white-washing.

-Meanwhile, Gadot spoke to Vanity Fair about the backlash to her “Imagine” video at the start of the pandemic. “Sometimes, you know, you try and do a good deed and it’s just not the right good deed. I had nothing but good intentions and it came from the best place, and I just wanted to send light and love to the world.”

–Zoe Kravitz looks amazing as Catwoman on the Batman set.

–Jon Cryer told a great story on Twitter this weekend about how he lost his wedding ring while walking in Vancouver — and found it the next day.

–Shantel VanSanten talked about how The Flash abruptly dumped her character in season 2 after she booked another series: “I don’t think it was supposed to end as quickly as it did. I don’t know if a whole lot of people know this, but I actually worked it out with my contract so I could finish the whole season and be around. But a showrunner that’s no longer on that show was very upset with me, and so he put me on a train all of a sudden, and I left…It was a bummer that somebody allowed their own personal feelings to come in the way of what was best for a story. I’m glad that person’s gone, and they’ve resolved so many of the issues on the set that were because of him.”

-Meanwhile, I thought I was finally free of all CW superhero shows save Legends, but Regina King has announced she’s developing a Black supernatural drama called Slay for the network. Just when I think I’m out…

-Tenet’s flop helped spur a mass exodus on the movie release calendar. As a result, War With Grandpa and rereleases of Star Wars the 1993 Halloween classic Hocus Pocus have been atop the box office charts in recent weeks.

-Meanwhile, as confusing as it is to hear studios release news of upcoming films when the industry is in freefall, Warner Bros just announced a Mad Max spinoff called Furiosa starring Anya Taylor-Joy, Chris Hemsworth and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II.

–Sandra Bullock just signed on to a romance-action film about a romance author who discovers that a fictional city she had written about is real, with her Proposal costar Ryan Reynolds being eyed for a part. I want this!

-Netflix’s new high school drama Grand Army, which drops this weekend, is getting great reviews, with comparisons to My So-Called Life.

-Though I’m reluctant to start a new Netflix series. This is a good piece on how Netflix keeps cancelling its most interesting and ambitious shows and why this (combined with the quantity-over-quality strategy) is becoming a big a problem.

-Also, Channing Dungey is stepping down as Netflix’s VP of original programming. There’s talk that she’s a contender for the job of president of Warner Bros. TV.

-In other big industry shakeups, Disney says its ‘primary focus’ for entertainment is streaming as it announces a major reorganization.

-I’m not sure I trust the site that’s reporting that Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield have signed on for Spider-Man 3, but it’s wild if true.

–Princess Diana meets the Queen in the new trailer for season 4 of The Crown.

Zayn Malik and Gigi Hadid Are Parents

–Zayn Malik and Gigi Hadid confirmed that they’ve welcomed their first child, a baby girl. She could already be a hand model.

-In other baby news, Mandy Moore is pregnant. The This Is Us actress announced on social media that she and husband Taylor Goldsmith are expecting their first child – a baby boy.

-Meanwhile, it looks like This Is Us fans won’t have to wait until November to watch Season 5, as previously announced. The show’s premiere date has been pushed forward two weeks to Oct 27, as production resumed this week. Check out other fall tv premiere dates here.

-Saturday Night Live’s season premiere will air on Oct 3 and feature Chris Rock and Megan Thee Stallion.

–Demi Lovato has called off her engagement with soap star Max Ehrich after just two months. (There’s no official confirmation, but that People quote sure sounds like a PR soundbite from her camp.) Meanwhile her fans were convinced that her fiancé is obsessed with Selena Gomez.

-I’m always surprised by the celebrity homes that I really like in Architectural Digest videos. Hilary Duff’s home is lovely!

–Elle Fanning covers Vanity Fair and talks about transitioning to adult roles—and bonding with sister Dakota—while quarantining in her childhood bedroom.

–Meghan Markle recorded a special message for America’s Got Talent fan favourite Archie.

–Tyra Banks admits “we messed up” when it came to America’s Next Top Model’s mission to be inclusive.

-I never actually watched The Knick but this is kind of amazing: Steven Soderbergh is reviving the series, which ran from 2104-2016, with Andre Holland and Barry Jenkins.

–Sohla El-Waylly, who recently left Bon Appetit’s Test Kitchen, has now joined the Babish YouTube series.

-Riverdales’ KJ Apa and Camila Mendes seem to think that gargling with mouthwash before filming kissing scenes will protect them from covid. And…they may be right?

-Meanwhile, this Vulture article on the ambiguous covid rules on productions and the lack of industry consensus is terrifying. I’m also incredibly curious about what show the PA who said this worked on: “On my Netflix job, the lead actor got sick. Four people — two from the crew and two cast members — died from covid.”

-Netflix has launched a new production hub in Vancouver, where a lot of shows have resumed filming.

-CW stars Asha Bromfield, Candice Patton, Nafessa Williams and Vanessa Morgan joined Teen Vogue for a conversation about diversity in Hollywood. Speaking of a CW sisterhood, I’m so curious about what happened with Shethority, which was started by a bunch of CW actresses. Patton was very involved in the beginning but seems to have pulled back.

-There’s a new report that Ben Affleck, Gal Gadot and Henry Cavill are reshooting Justice League scenes for Snyder’s director’s cut, but Cavill says he’s not.

-The Father of the Bride cast is reuniting for a new charity event.

-Bummer: Sofia Coppola‘s new film with Bill Murray and Rashida Jones is not getting good reviews.

-Have you seen Beyond the Lights? Gugu Mbatha-Raw plays a Beyonce wannbe and Minnie Driver plays her stage mom and it’s so, so good that I have no idea how come it isn’t more well known. In any case, I love that Mbatha-Raw is promoting another movie but willing to answer so many questions about that one.

–Riz Ahmed plays a drummer who’s losing his hearing in Amazon’s Sound of Metal trailer. This played a TIFF last year to strong reviews.
