Gwendoline Christie Slays at the Game of Thrones Premiere

-The Game of Thrones premiere red carpet was fire, but Gwendoline Christie was the clear winner. It’s a smart move on her part — she’s coming off her first big thing and now is when she needs to create some buzz for future gigs.

-Also, Sophie Turner confirmed on the carpet that Maisie Williams will be her maid of honour when she marries Joe Jonas.

Tessa Thompson casually and repeatedly burning Chris Hemsworth in this birthday message to RDJ has me suddenly excited to see their Men in Black film.

-Sources say Britney Spears is doing “much better” after checking herself into a mental health facility to cope with her father’s illness.

-This is hilarious: Tom Holland still hasn’t read the script For Avengers: Endgame despite being done filming — and it’s because Marvel doesn’t trust him not to spoil it.

-So Jennifer Lopez is just going to keep ignoring those cheating rumours, huh?

Kanye West‘s kids took April Fool’s Day wayyyyy too far — they made him think Kim Kardashian had died. Kim told Elle: “[North] roped him into an April Fool’s prank yesterday that was ridiculous. She took ketchup into my bathroom, and she begged me to let her spread it on me, and on the bathroom, as if it was like a bad scary movie. Then she asked me to lie down. I thought she was just playing, maybe that she was going to say I was hurt. No. She taught Saint how to fake-cry—she showed him how to do it!—and then she told him to scream ‘Mommy’s dead!’ Kanye ran upstairs and he was like, ‘Kids, this is not funny. This is not a good prank.'”

-Out of all the things I could imagine Prince Harry coming out strongly against, Fortnite wasn’t one of them. He talked about banning the video game, saying “It’s created to addict. An addiction to keep you in front of a computer for as long as possible. It’s so irresponsible.”

-Speaking of the royals, everyone’s keeping their eye on the UK press to see if they will start reporting on the Prince William cheating rumours now that the US press is. They continued to toe the line with the palace even though the Daily Beast reported on it, but now that it’s being splashed across supermarket tabloids, with they follow suit? That’s what happened once French outlets started covering Kate’s topless photos. We’ll see.

-I know it’s probably beyond a long shot, but it’s incredible to me that there’s talks of bringing Pitch back. Disney’s 20th TV is dangling a revival of Dan Fogelman‘s baseball drama to entice the This Is Us creator to remain in-house.

Celine Dion laughed off rumours of a relationship with her backup dancer: “Pepe is gay…The thing is that he’s my best friend and we dance together and he did so much for me and even just holding my hand…it’s something that I haven’t had for a long time…A hug from a 6′ 3″ man, it was wonderful…and people really thought there was a romance going on.”

-Is Emma Stone engaged? She’s been spotted sporting a diamond ring.

-Maybe when you’re heading into your court appearance you should just skip the autograph line, Lori Loughlin.  Just sayin’.

-Sugar Ray frontman Mark McGrath is denying reports he’s gone deaf, saying he was misquoted.

Kristen Bell has a warning about the new Veronica Mars miniseries. “This will be a controversial season. Let me just say that. I am excited for people to watch and I am also probably going to stay off the internet once it airs. There’s some stuff that happens that people will have strong feelings about.” I’m guessing Logan and Veronica break up, which isn’t doing much to build my excitement.

-I really like this story about the women behind Captain Marvel banding together to form a new production company, combining the clout they’ve earned to “exponentially lift up storytellers and less heard voices.”

Charlize Theron and Seth Rogen show off some surprising chemistry in this new Long Shot clip and I’m so confused.

Kristen Stewart pretends to be an author to cover for Laura Dern in the trailer for J.T. LeRoy. I saw this at TIFF and I thought it was good, not great, but the performances were fun.

Best and Worst Dressed at the 2019 Oscars

With its lack of host, endless organizational stumbles and too-close-to-call categories, no one really knew what to expect from the 2019 Oscars. But it turns out the big surprises came on the red carpet. It was a night filled with whimsy, colour, ruffles, shapes – and SO MUCH HOT PINK. Check out our picks for the best and worst looks of the night at the 91st annual Academy Awards:

BEST DRESSED AT THE 2019 OSCARS:

Jen: I thought Jennifer Lopez was going to be my favourite metallic look of the night until I saw Brie Larson‘s outfit, which I think edges out JLo’s because there’s clear strategy behind it. This is exactly what Larson needed to do before her big debut as Captain Marvel: look great but also like a goddamn superhero who can kick anyone’s ass. She rises to the task with this sexy, slinky Celine that fits her like armour. Take that, haters!

Nicole: Emma Stone’s Louis Vuitton gown is elegant and sculptural, with sleeves that look like tiny wings and sequined material that clings to her. I love that the sequins are layered so they didn’t lay flat. It fits perfectly and she keeps her accessories and makeup to a minimum to let the gown do all the work. It a bit of a weird look which is appropriate given the film she’s nominated for (The Favourite, which is also lovely and weird) and it feels like a grown-up choice. Love.

Jen: Yellow is a hard look to pull off on the carpet, but when it works it’s spectacular. Constance Wu‘s marigold Versace gives me memories of Michelle Williams’ iconic Vera Wang moment during Brokeback Mountain’s year and I heart it.

Nicole: I adore Rachel Weisz’s Givenchy gown. It’s a conventionally pretty gown with a flowing skirt – and then it’s topped with A HOT RED PLEATHER CROP TOP. God, I love writing those words. I’m on a real red tear right now so this immediately plays to my style obsession, plus the contrast of materials both in texture and shape make this such a daring and cool choice. She keeps her accessories tone-on-tone, opting for a black manicure and simple makeup. The headband brings the whole look back to feminine. Again, this weird gown feels wildly appropriate given the film she’s nominated for.

Jen: When I first saw Amy Adams I was disappointed by the colour because it felt too bridal and boring to me. But every time I caught another glimpse of her Versace dress, I feel more and more in love. I still wish it was in a brighter hue (paired with a stronger lip), but the fit is impeccable and it photographs SO well.

Nicole: Oh my god, Sarah Paulson in Brandon Maxwell is so awesome (I was going to write weird, but I have to stop calling all these amazing gowns weird). It’s the colour of the night and the shape is both unconventional and voluminous but also immensely flattering. Sarah is styled by Karla Welch, who often takes calculated risks with her clients (see also Tracee Ellis Ross in the same colour and volume of dress several times this year), however although she’s really pulled towards this colour and shape for her clients, this is one of the best iterations because it manages to be super interesting and lovely.

Jen: Pink was the surprise colour of the night, but IMO no one did it better than Gemma Chan in Valentino. Unlike Linda Cardellini‘s fuschia moment, Gemma’s wearing the dress instead of the dress wearing her. I think you have to be a “fashion” girl to really pull this off, and no one has been rocking couture this awards season as well Gemma. Plus it looks really comfortable and it has pockets (and she was using it to hide COOKIES!!), which always gets bonus points from me!

Nicole: Helen Mirren is so hot in this simple, flowing, vibrant pink Schiaparelli gown with a tulle overlay. It’s feminine, fresh and pretty. I’m not sure why people on social media were going after her makeup – I was so happy to see a bright lip on the red carpet. *sets out fuchsia lipstick for tomorrow*

Jen: Billy Porter hosted the Oscar red carpet preshow but he stole the entire show in this in voluminous Christian Siriano number. I could watch him spin all night long. Werrkkk!

Nicole: When I first saw Angela Bassett on the red carpet, I wrote “wowza” in my notes. I adore the structure of this fuchsia Reem Acra gown and although I wish the material looked less wrinkled, the shape is immensely flattering, the flowing low pony is so feminine and she looks every inch a goddess.

WORST DRESSED AT THE 2019 OSCARS:

Nicole: Glenn Close actually looks like she is wearing a 42lb gown – which she is. I feel like this Carolina Herrera gown is heavy, not at all flattering and it comes across like she is trying way too hard. When I think about Helen Mirren’s simple and flattering gown and hold the two side by side, Glenn looks overwhelmed. I guess 4 million beads will do that to a woman.

Jen: I had high, high expectations for Lady Gaga – if only because I assumed she would bring the weirdness. So imagine my disappointment when she showed up in this understated, underwhelming McQueen, with oddly jutting hips as its only distinguishing feature. She doesn’t even give us a bold red lip! At least the infamous Tiffany necklace is stunning.

Nicole: I actually like Melissa McCarthy’s Brandon Maxwell… outfit? I mean, I can’t call it a gown because IT’S PANTS. At the Academy Awards. I was a bit heartbroken because otherwise the shape is perfect, the colour suits her and the cape is amazing!

Jen: If Gemma Chan is my fave pink look of the night, then Kacey Musgraves is my least fave. She gets lost in this fluffy, cotton candy coloured mess of a Giambattista Valli gown. Tiered tulle is nobody’s friend.

Nicole: I want to love Charlize Theron’s Dior gown but damn. Although it highlights her tall, lean shape, the open back is not flattering and her whole (I’m guessing?) braless situation does not work. I also feel like the colour is doing her no favours. At least there isn’t a weird back strap on her dress like Irina Shayk’s. So there’s that.

Jen: No other nominee had a fairy tale narrative like Roma’s Yalitza Aparicio – but that doesn’t mean she had to dress like a princess. I wanted so much for her…and this Rodarte wasn’t it.

Brie Larson Talks Becoming a Superhero in InStyle

Brie Larson Captain Marvel

-Captain Marvel is out in just a month and I feel like the Marvel publicity blitz is a bit slower than usual. But here’s Brie Larson on the cover of InStyle, which is hopefully just the tip of the marketing iceberg. In the interview, she talks about calling Jennifer Lawrence for some advice the morning after her Oscar win, and what it feels like to join the giant Marvel universe.

-Not surprisingly, Liam Neeson is in damage control today, telling GMA “I’m not racist” in the wake of his undeniably racist story.

-Meanwhile, the premiere of his new movie was just cancelled in light of his remarks. It’ll be really interesting to see if this controversy has any affect on its box office.

Ben Affleck and Lindsay Shookus may have reunited.

This photo that Priyanka Chopra posted of her and Nick Jonas chilling at home has everyone asking: who took this pic?!

-I dug this article about SNL’s Totino’s sketches. This bit from writer Sarah Schneider is especially great: “While we shot this, I developed a crush on Kristen Stewart…She was super personable. Sometimes hosts are very separate, and that’s fine. I was sitting, she came over and crouched and put her elbow on my knee to just, like, talk. And I was like, ‘I’m gonna leave my boyfriend.'”

Jasmine Guillory talks about being the first romance novelist chosen for Reese Witherspoon’s book club.

Angelina Jolie continues to do good work as an UNHCR Special Envoy. This week, she’s advocating for additional international aid while visiting the Rohingya refugee camps in Bangladesh.

-Crazy Stupid Love is not a great film except for that perfect 20-min stretch that’s just Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling hanging out at his house. Here’s a look behind the scenes of the Dirty Dancing lift scene.

-I have yet to watch the Netflix doc Abducted in Plain Sight, but everyone on my Twitter TL is losing their poo over it.

-The Craft star Rachel True put fan conventions on blast for excluding her while inviting her white co-stars.

-I don’t know how I missed the new trailer for The Good Fight last week but it’s perfection!

-Why is Max Greenfield talking about shooting sex scenes for the new Veronica Mars reboot? Deputy Leo better stay the hell away from our girl!

Alex Rodriguez dedicated a message to Jennifer Lopez on their 2-year anniversary: “Only 730 days, which have flown by, but it feels like we have been together forever. We are meant to be, and how much you mean to me cannot be put into words.”

John Boyega wants to make an Attack the Block sequel. What a coincidence! I want John Boyega to make an Attack the Block sequel.

-Modern Family has been renewed for its 11th and final season.

Hugh Jackman becomes Big Foot’s buddy in new Missing Link trailer.
