Fan Rushes the Stage at Beyonce & Jay Z Concert

-A drunk fan jumped on the stage and chased after Beyoncé & JAY-Z in Atlanta and the dancers tried to stop him. He’s been charged with battery.

–Kaylor lives! (I don’t actually believe that Karlie Kloss is faking an engagement with a hated man just so she can keep a secret relationship with Taylor Swift under wraps — though I change my mind about that every time I listen to “Dress.”)

–Gabrielle Union and Dwayne Wade getting in on the TATBILB love is amazing.

-Both Liam Gallagher and his girlfriend are denying that there was a physical altercation between them after security footage from a London club seemed to show him grabbing her throat.

-The new HBO sizzle reel gives us the teeny tiniest glimpse of new footage from Game of Thrones. The HBO show was rumoured to be returning in April 2019, but now it looks like the wait will be longer.

-The True Detective season 3 trailer has arrived. Mahershala Ali deserves better.

-After Kevin Smith‘s heart attack, his doctor told him to lose 50lbs. He totally did it.

-Wow. Crazy Rich Asians earned $25 million in its second weekend (almost the same as what it earned opening weekend). Most movies drop about 40-50% the second weekend. This one only dropped 6% — while Saturday’s numbers dropped an unprecedented 0%.

–John Cho‘s Searching also did well, nabbing the highest per screen of any movie this weekend.

-There is a lot of talk about the accent Awkwafina attempts in Crazy Rich Asians and whether she’s appropriating black culture. (I was surprised when I was watching her last night on the MMVAs that she doesn’t normally sound like that.)

-I want Angela Bassett to be my life coach.

-People have been dunking on Ethan Hawke all weekend for his quotes about how he doesn’t think superhero movies deserve praise, but reading the whole interview, I think that’s taking it wildly out of context.

-Nicki Minaj postponed tour. She said she didn’t have time to rehearse, but Page Six says the decision came after “the most disappointing tickets sales of the year for any artist.”

-In news that should surprise no one, John Goodman seemed to confirm that Roseanne Barr’s character will be killed off in the upcoming The Conners spinoff, saying about his upcoming arc “I guess he’ll be mopey and sad because his wife’s dead.”

–Oscar Isaac is rumoured to be in talks for a mystery role in Matt Reeves’ The Batman. Can it be Batman?!?

–Anna Kendrick talked about her desire to see the teased relationship between her Pitch Perfect character and Chloe (Brittany Snow) materialize. She said should the Bellas reunite for a fourth film, “I will fight tooth and nail for it…but I’m not sure it’s gonna happen.”

-My Dad Wrote a Porno (aka the funniest podcast ever), is heading to TV as an HBO comedy special.

–Kate Mara, whose family owns the NY Giants and Pittsburgh Steelers, says she supports players’ right to protest.

-This is an interesting article on how Goop capitalizes on the medical establishment’s insistence on ignoring women’s health, leaving them “disproportionately exposed to the harms of quackery.”

-Wow, Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol.3 production has been put on hold.

-The FBI and NYPD have opened investigations into the prolific scam artist impersonating top female Hollywood execs after tips began pouring in following THR’s nutso cover story on her.

–Sam Mendes directed Emma Stone in this Louis Vuitton short.

-For better or worse, I picked my TIFF movies today. I decided to pass on Maggie Gyllenhaal‘s The Kindergarten Teacher because it’ll come out on Netflix — and also because this trailer is creepy.

 

 

 

Tiffany Haddish Answers 3 Ridiculous Questions

–Tiffany Haddish reveals the best thing about white people: translucent nipples and inheritances.

-In an interview with Vulture on Friday, Ruth Wilson said she had no say about how her character left The Affair, and if she had, it would have turned out differently. “No, I had no say over how the character’s arc was going to end, or how she would die and leave. I always hoped that she would… I always had the image that she would walk into the sunset with her son with no man. That’s what I hoped for her. But no.”

-Has Ben Affleck moved on from Lindsay Shookus?

-I don’t necessarily believe this story about Chris Pratt and Katherine Schwartzenegger staying abstinent until marriage, but it tickles me nonetheless.

–Ashanti shared an Aretha Franklin memory of the time she called her and told her not to get SARS in Canada.

-Renée Zellweger is the latest movie star to make the move to the small screen. She just signed on to topline Netflix’s thriller anthology series What/If.

–K-os just released his first single in three years.

-An oral history of the “Scotty Doesn’t Know” song from EuroTrip? Sure, why not?

–Tara Reid dropped out of the Sharknado press tour appearance following a bizarre TV interview. (Is it weird that I don’t find her appearance that bizarre? My bar is pretty low, though.)

-HBO’s Watchmen series from Damon Lindelof just got a full season order – and it’s coming in 2019.

-The director of Crazy Rich Asians just credited Lainey for basically casting the movie on her blog and I love it. (Her explanation of the movie’s music choices is worth your time.)

-It’s projected box office this weekend is $29M or more. (Fingers crossed for “or more”.) I saw it last night and I LOVED it. (Also, I liked this the explanation of the mahjong scene.)

-Speaking of movies I love (ok, I haven’t actually seen it yet but I’m watching it tonight and I just know it’ll be my new fave), To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before continues to rake in stellar reviews. Buzzfeed calls it “catnip for the rom-com lover’s soul”, TV Guide calls it “Netflix’s first teen movie worth watching,” and NPR says it’s “fizzy and endlessly charming.”

-This love-in between Lena Waithe and Jon Chu made my day.

-I liked this article on how Netflix accounts for huge deals with TV creators like Shonda Rhimes, Kenya Barris and Ryan Murphy.

-Uh oh. The Hills cast is set to reunited at the MTV VMAs next week for “a big announcement.” Reboot fever strikes again?

Constance Wu Steps Into the Spotlight

–Constance Wu’s cover of Time is fabulous (and it makes me even more sad that fashion magazines didn’t snatch her up for their Sept issues). The accompanying article by Karen K Ho is also great. Ho also tweeted some tidbits that didn’t make it into the article, including the fact that Wu specifically asked her publicist for Asian-American women to interview her as much as possible, because she wanted to create more opportunities.

-I really liked this article about Crazy Rich Asians from the perspective of an Asian American. (Speaking of which, Vox’s Today Explained podcast made me tear up this morning.)

-This is a great interview with Lana Condor, the lead of To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before. (I can’t believe this movie is bringing back scrunchies, though.)

-Whoa, what happened with Ruth Wilson and The Affair? I stopped watching a couple of seasons ago (even the lure of Joshua Jackson couldn’t tempt me), but I heard about the big twist from two weeks ago. On CBS This Morning this morning, she says “I did want to leave, but I’m not allowed to talk about why.” Things get REAL awkward, and after some hemming and hawing Gayle King asked her if it was about “a disagreement about money – male and female salaries?” and she responded “I’ve never complained to Showtime about pay parity.” (FF to around 4:30 in this video).

-Showtime has since released a statement (which is basically a non-statement): “We can’t speak for Ruth, but heading into season four everyone agreed the character’s story had run its course.”

–Diane Kruger even makes maternity jeans work.

-People is wading in on the Brangelina battle, with a source saying “they’ve always had different parenting styles.”

–Madonna turns 60(!) today. (Remember when she was 35 the press was calling her “grandma“?) She’s in the Moroccan city of Marrakesh, and asking her followers to celebrate her bday by donating to Raise Malawi. Back when she was 35 the press was calling her “grandma”.

-In honour of her bday, Madonna also released her full performance from this year’s MET gala.

-Also turning 60 and looking ah-maz-ing is Angela Bassett, who celebrated by posting a bikini pic.

–Rihanna is reportedly filming a Lemonade-style longform music video featuring Donald Glover. Yes, please!

-As expected, Blackish’s Kenya Barris has inked what sources say is a three-year, high-eight-figure overall TV deal with Netflix. I don’t blame him because a) ABC did him dirty and b) money!

-These photos of Tiffany Haddish by Annie Leibovitz for Vogue’s latest issue are amazing.

–Ivanka Trump really, really didn’t like SNL’s “Complicit” sketch with Scarlett Johansson playing her.

-After taking a meeting with James Gunn, Disney still isn’t bringing him back for Guardians Vol. 3.

–Kim Cattrall has the best rejection story: “Got replaced in a TV pilot by a major TV network boss because he said I had no Sex Appeal.”

-Speaking of SATC stars, this thread makes me want to move to NY so I can vote for Cynthia Nixon.

–TJ Miller is defending himself against his former Silicon Valley co-star Alice Wetterlund who accused him of being a “bully and petulant brat.” Weeks later, he says he’s not a bully, just a “benevolent benign maniac.” Uh huh.

-I can’t believe  This Is Us’ Justin Hartley has a kid in high school.

-In case you’re wondering, this is why everyone is freaking out about dick soap. (I’m more freaked out by someone making money off fan fiction who isn’t the author.)

–Justin Timberlake leaving his publicist of 20 years, Sonia Muckle.

-In his new GQ interview, Pete Davidson says his relationship with Ariana Grande progressed even faster than we thought: “The day I met her, I was like, ‘Hey, I’ll marry you tomorrow,’ ” he says, grinning. “She was calling my bluff. I sent her a picture [of engagement rings]. I was like, ‘Do you like any of these?’ She was like, ‘Those are my favorite ones,’ and I was like, ‘Sick.’ ”

–Ariana Grande did a Little Shop of Horrors duet with James Corden and got a piggyback through Starbucks in the latest Carpool Karaoke, which aired Wednesday night. I love that she knows exactly what people say about her and mocks it: “Did you know I demand to be carried everywhere? That is the kind of pop star I am! If you see me anywhere, it’s cause I didn’t walk there myself; I promise.”
