Cranberries’ Dolores O’Riordan Dead at 46

-Well, this is terrible: Cranberries singer Dolores O’Riordan has died at 46. As of now, her death is being treated as ‘unexplained.’

-This weekend, Buffy’s Elisha Dushku wrote a Facebook post alleging that the head stuntman on True Lies molested her when she was just 12. Her mother and on-set legal guardian corroborated her claims (which he denies). Jamie Lee Curtis, who played her mother in the film, says the actress told her about it “a few years ago.

-The story about Aziz Anzari’s bad date caused some major debate this weekend. I’m not really sure where it fits into the #TimesUp movement, but whether you think it was assault or not, one thing has been made very clear: we need to teach boys what consent looks like. I feel like ever since the Cat Person story went viral a few weeks ago, consent has been a big topic in every discussion I have with female friends and most women I know seems to have a story about following “the path of least resistance” to get out of this kind of situation. For eloquent threads on this topic, see here, here, here and here. When it comes to Aziz, the thing that rankles most for me is that he MADE A CAREER out of dating advice. He wrote a book about it and sold out Madison Square Gardens on his speaking tour. The other concern I have is that in conversations about who’s next, his name has come up a lot in recent weeks. If something more substantial breaks, I worry that there’s now going to be an immediate reaction of “oh, women are just out to get him/piling on now.”

Aziz has issued a statement, saying after the incident “I took her words to heart.”

Liam Neeson called the Hollywood sexual harassment movement “a bit of a witch hunt.” Byeeeeee!

Leah Remini is pointing to Scientology as a potential instigator for the Paul Haggis allegations.

-It turns out that public shaming still works. Mark Wahlberg finally announced that he’s donating his $1.5 million to Time’s Up; WME is donating an additional $500K.  Michelle Williams released a perfect statement that kept the spotlight off her and on the cause.

Katy Perry overcame her hatred of Medieval Times this weekend. (Who hates Medieval Times? It’s literally one of my favourite places on earth. I’m always having to piggyback on my friends with kids’ outings, cause apparently going by yourself as an adult is “creepy.” Pfffftttt.)

-The hottest comic con photo opp pose to do with stars is currently the distracted boyfriend meme, and I couldn’t be happier. Here’s the casts of Arrow and Avengers taking a crack at it. (Also, did you know that people ship Bucky and Steve? And their ship name is Stucky? I just learned this and it makes me irrationally happy.)

Dakota Johnson and Chris Martin: still a thing. I can’t imagine a more boring couple. Can their ship name just be Beige?

-Hulu is now streaming ER (which weirdly has never been on a streaming site before). Now if someone could add Felicity and Sports Night, I’d be in heaven.

-Seriously guys, the Proud Mary rollout is insane. There is some conspiracy-level stuff going on.

-I don’t need another CW superhero show in my life, but I guess I’m getting one because the reviews for Black Lighting are great.

-Supergirl’s Melissa Benoist addressed the Andrew Kreisberg firing at the TCA, calling his alleged misconduct “a major disappointment.”

-Groupon getting Tiffany Haddish to be in their Super Bowl commercial makes so much sense. She’s basically been giving them free advertising on her talk show circuit.

Jon Hamm negotiates a dangerous trade in the war-torn Middle East in the Beirut trailer.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi Earns Rave Reviews

Star Wars The Last Jedi
Lucas Films Ltd/Disney

-Holy moly, are critics ever loving on Star Wars: The Last Jedi!

-Didn’t we already know that Dakota Johnson and are dating?

-A funny thing is happening to Today now that Matt Lauer is gone: Its ratings are going up.

-An actress has added to the accusations against Mario Batali. He was also repeatedly mentioned in the NYT’s report of sexual misconduct allegations at The Spotted Pig, including a tidbit about someone having to intervene because they saw on the security camera that Batali was kissing an unconscious woman. “We called him the Red Menace,” said a former server. “He tried to touch my breasts and told me that they were beautiful. He wanted to wrestle. As I was serving drinks to his table, he told me I should sit on his friend’s face.”

Larry King is “flatly and unequivocally” denying a groping allegation.

-Even though it doesn’t drop until Dec. 29, Black Mirror is landing on a lot of critics’ Best of 2017 lists (’cause they’ve already seen it).

George Clooney told Jimmy Kimmel he’d take on a moose as a pet because “it’s a mobile coat rack”.

-I love that the girl who plays Felicity on Arrow tried to keep her job at a dog grooming place for the entire first season of the show.  Dogs *are* very cute.

-The Punisher has been renewed for season 2 on Netflix. I really liked what I saw, but it also feels like the finale really wrapped up his emotional journey. (Of course, you could say the same thing about Jessica Jones and I can’t wait for that one’s return…)

-I love that Netflix had to go on the defensive over their big brother fan-shaming tweet about The Christmas Prince.

-I’m a big fan of Gina Rodriguez — and I’m an even bigger fan of this dress.

Will Smith falls into a war over a wand in Netflix’s Bright trailer. Man, this this looks like a mess.

Lin-Manuel Miranda, Donald Glover, Issa Rae and Damien Chazelle Talk Creativity

thr-donald-glover-lin-manuel-issa-rae

-THR’s big year-end issue is devoted to “creativity” and features the awesomely diverse Lin-Manuel Miranda (Hamilton), Donald Glover (Atlanta), Issa Rae (Insecure) and Damien Chazelle (La La Land) on the cover. The video roundtable, moderated by Jon Favreau, is also a good watch. (Though I needed Lin and Issa to talk 97% more.)

-This is an interesting take on how all of the divorce rumours surrounding Kanye West and Kim Kardashian suggest they’ve lost their tight grip on the media.

Mariah Carey is still wearing that $10 million engagement ring from James Packer  because men come and go, but diamonds are forever.

-Meanwhile, Mariah Carey returned for a Christmas-themed Carpool Karaoke — which also featured Adele, Lady Gaga, Elton John, Chris Martin, Selena Gomez and more.

Julia Roberts is the latest huge movie star to sign onto a TV series. She’ll star in limited series based on Maria Semple’s latest book, Today Will Be Different.

-If Joss Whedon directs the Supergirl and The Flash musical crossover I will die of happiness.

Jay Mohr filed for divorce from wife Nikki Coxfor the second time.

-The View co-hosts don’t seem too shaken about Raven-Symoné and Candace Cameron Bure’s exits: “It’s like, whatever.”

-Here’s the first trailer for Sneaky Pete, produced by Bryan Cranston. (I keep thinking this is called Skinny Pete and get so excited!)

Michael Stipe and James Franco joined Stephen Colbert to celebrate the end of 2016 with a song.

Faith Evans and Stevie J are a couple now.

Carrie Preston just joined The Good Wife spinoff. I loved her character, but Lisbeth seemed like a “small doses” kind of person.

Mindy Kaling says she’s frustrated with all of the paparazzi focus on the Ocean’s Eight set — because they don’t care about her at all. (“People think I’m Sandra Bullock’s assistant.”)

Jennifer Aniston has gotten out of the hair care game.

Amy Schumer and Goldie Hawn are a nutty mother-daughter duo in the Snatched trailer.
