Kim Kardashian: Attorney at Law?

Kim Kardashian Lawyer Vogue

-In her new Vogue cover storyKim Kardashian says that she’s studying to be a lawyer and plans to take her bar exam in 2020. I know everyone’s making fun of this but the woman is clearly intelligent enough, and she seems really passionate when talking about prison reform in the interview. She’s also eager to talk about Kanye West‘s mental health, saying “Right now everything is really calm. But we can definitely feel episodes coming, and we know how to handle them. For him, being on medication is not really an option, because it just changes who he is.”

-Console your teens: despite all the rumours, Selena Gomez is not dating a guy Niall Horan from 1D.

-Oof, the hubris of actors. Lori Loughlin reportedly thought the DA was bluffing so she rejected their first plea and now faces additional, more serious  charges.

-Looks like the US media is dealing with the royal rumours with some distraction tactics. People’s new cover story is all about William and Harry growing apart, while Us Weekly is focusing on Kate‘s strong bond with the Queen.

-Meanwhile, Meghan Markle continues to gather Hollywood heavyweights in her corner. Her latest supporter? Oprah! While promoting her Apple series on mental health that she’s partnering with Prince Harry on, Oprah said “I think she’s being portrayed unfairly, and I feel that if people really knew her they would know that she is not only everything we perceive of her in being graceful and dynamic in holding that position, but she just has a wonderful, warm, giving, loving heart. I think it’s very unfair.”

-In a new op-ed for Time, Angelina Jolie calls for the support of Afghan women’s rights and more female representation in Afghan government delegations during peace talks.

Jeremy Renner is getting an Avengers spinoff show on Disney+. I’m not sure if anyone is actually clamoring for more about Hawkeye, but it sounds like it ill focus on the comic character Kate Bishop. The streaming service is rumoured to be launching in Nov.

Emma Stone fangirls over BTS in her SNL promos.

-This season of The Good Fight has been phenomenal, but it’s about to get better when Christine Baranski and Audra McDonald perform a Prince duet. I love everything about that clip.

Chris Hemsworth says a kind-hearted fan returned his photos from Miley and Liam‘s wedding after they were accidentally sent to her. The most adorable part of this story is that the pictures were on film, taken with an actual camera!

-I’m sort of excited for the return of Game of Thrones on Sunday. But I’m VERY excited for the return of Gay Of Thrones, the hilarious recaps by Queer Eye’s Jonathan.

-This Twitter thread on surreal celeb encounters is a delight. (Jackee Harry won with this response.)

-Foster the People and Imagine Dragons were beefing? Not gonna lie, I kind of thought they were the same band.

-I’m so glad that Special — the new Netflix show about a disabled gay man — is getting good reviews. I worry it’s going to be lost in the mix (especially because searching for “special” on Netflix results in a sea of comedy specials).

-I’m both happy and skeptical about Barry getting renewed for season 3 at HBO. Happy because season 2 is currently amazing; skeptical because the show went from asking “can this guy be redeemed?” to asking “when will this irredeemable guy get caught?” and I don’t know how long they can stretch that.

-We’re 100 days out from the new Lion King movie, so Disney dropped another trailer.

Gwendoline Christie Slays at the Game of Thrones Premiere

-The Game of Thrones premiere red carpet was fire, but Gwendoline Christie was the clear winner. It’s a smart move on her part — she’s coming off her first big thing and now is when she needs to create some buzz for future gigs.

-Also, Sophie Turner confirmed on the carpet that Maisie Williams will be her maid of honour when she marries Joe Jonas.

Tessa Thompson casually and repeatedly burning Chris Hemsworth in this birthday message to RDJ has me suddenly excited to see their Men in Black film.

-Sources say Britney Spears is doing “much better” after checking herself into a mental health facility to cope with her father’s illness.

-This is hilarious: Tom Holland still hasn’t read the script For Avengers: Endgame despite being done filming — and it’s because Marvel doesn’t trust him not to spoil it.

-So Jennifer Lopez is just going to keep ignoring those cheating rumours, huh?

Kanye West‘s kids took April Fool’s Day wayyyyy too far — they made him think Kim Kardashian had died. Kim told Elle: “[North] roped him into an April Fool’s prank yesterday that was ridiculous. She took ketchup into my bathroom, and she begged me to let her spread it on me, and on the bathroom, as if it was like a bad scary movie. Then she asked me to lie down. I thought she was just playing, maybe that she was going to say I was hurt. No. She taught Saint how to fake-cry—she showed him how to do it!—and then she told him to scream ‘Mommy’s dead!’ Kanye ran upstairs and he was like, ‘Kids, this is not funny. This is not a good prank.'”

-Out of all the things I could imagine Prince Harry coming out strongly against, Fortnite wasn’t one of them. He talked about banning the video game, saying “It’s created to addict. An addiction to keep you in front of a computer for as long as possible. It’s so irresponsible.”

-Speaking of the royals, everyone’s keeping their eye on the UK press to see if they will start reporting on the Prince William cheating rumours now that the US press is. They continued to toe the line with the palace even though the Daily Beast reported on it, but now that it’s being splashed across supermarket tabloids, with they follow suit? That’s what happened once French outlets started covering Kate’s topless photos. We’ll see.

-I know it’s probably beyond a long shot, but it’s incredible to me that there’s talks of bringing Pitch back. Disney’s 20th TV is dangling a revival of Dan Fogelman‘s baseball drama to entice the This Is Us creator to remain in-house.

Celine Dion laughed off rumours of a relationship with her backup dancer: “Pepe is gay…The thing is that he’s my best friend and we dance together and he did so much for me and even just holding my hand…it’s something that I haven’t had for a long time…A hug from a 6′ 3″ man, it was wonderful…and people really thought there was a romance going on.”

-Is Emma Stone engaged? She’s been spotted sporting a diamond ring.

-Maybe when you’re heading into your court appearance you should just skip the autograph line, Lori Loughlin.  Just sayin’.

-Sugar Ray frontman Mark McGrath is denying reports he’s gone deaf, saying he was misquoted.

Kristen Bell has a warning about the new Veronica Mars miniseries. “This will be a controversial season. Let me just say that. I am excited for people to watch and I am also probably going to stay off the internet once it airs. There’s some stuff that happens that people will have strong feelings about.” I’m guessing Logan and Veronica break up, which isn’t doing much to build my excitement.

-I really like this story about the women behind Captain Marvel banding together to form a new production company, combining the clout they’ve earned to “exponentially lift up storytellers and less heard voices.”

Charlize Theron and Seth Rogen show off some surprising chemistry in this new Long Shot clip and I’m so confused.

Kristen Stewart pretends to be an author to cover for Laura Dern in the trailer for J.T. LeRoy. I saw this at TIFF and I thought it was good, not great, but the performances were fun.

Beyonce and Jay Z Show Their Support for Meghan Markle

Beyoncé and Jay-Z accepting their Brit award in front of a Meghan Markle painting is perfection. This is such a powerful but subtle way to show their support in the wake of the British press’ brutal (and often racist) coverage of her.

Serena Williams and Amal Clooney co-hosted Meghan Markle’s baby shower in NYC. This is such a power move and I adore it! She may not have royal allies but Hollywood A-list allies are showing up for her in force.

-Oh ffs. In a new podcast, Jason Reitman said “I’m not making the Juno of Ghostbusters movies…We are, in every way, trying to go back to the original technique and hand the movie back to the fans.”  What misogynist nonsense is this? How did the female reboot somehow take anything away from fans? This is playing right into the narrative of trolls who think women can’t be part of fandoms, and it’s disgusting.

-Those toxic fanboys who were littering Rotten Tomatoes with fake reviews of Captain Marvel can choke on their tears. The first screening was held for critics last night, and the initial reactions are GLOWING.

-Fox insists it has no plans to write Jussie Smollett out of Empire.

-That might change: Smollett has just officially been named a suspect in the criminal investigation into his alleged attack.

Idris Elba is going to host SNL next month and I’m HERE for it. My sister-in-law recently alerted me to his new Squarespace commercial and he plays such a good straightman opposite the hilarious Lolly Adefope. (“I was voted the Sexiest Man on Earth.” “Yeah, you’ve said that a number of times. You said it to the caterers.”)

Nina Dobrev hit back at Instagram commenters who remarked on her thin-looking frame in this photo.

Lily Colins and Noah Centineo are flirting on IG for all to see.

-I very much like this piece on Mandy Moore and how she’s become a symbol of why some women in the music industry aren’t taken seriously — and how that might change.

-I love Lizzo so much and this tweet about Shawn Mendes confirms it.

Channing Tatum and Jessie J are still dating. Huh.

-I don’t know why I read the Academy voter secret ballot interviews because they always make me so angry! Today’s is the worst. On best short doc nominee Period. End of Sentence, he said: “It’s well done, but it’s about women getting their period, and I don’t think any man is voting for this film because it’s just icky for men.” F**kkkkkkk youuuuuuu.

-The Oscars are only four(!) days away, and it sounds like a mess. They’re still figuring out how to keep it under three hours, and they’re shooting down rumours that Whoopi is secretly preparing to host. After Dwayne Johnson rejected the host offer, they even considered a different host for each hour of the telecast but now it seems like they’ve ended up with … no one?

-People can’t even figure out the frontrunners for the Best Picture race . I’m still assuming it’ll go to Roma, but for the first time ever, all the guilds (which are good predictors) chose a different winner.

-Speaking of the guilds, here’s Chelsea Peretti’s hilarious monologue at the Writers Guild Awards. “The writers of The Good Place took an unbelievable premise like Kristen Bell being friends with a black person and they turned it into an amazing show.”

-I definitely agree with this take on how The Good Place needs to set an end date.

-I don’t want this for Chris Hemsworth.

-I’m very glad that someone is asking the hard questions about Lucas Hedges‘ GQ cover interview. What kind of high school assigned students to see him in a middle-school play?!

Kevin Costner and Woody Harrelson play police officers who come out of retirement to catch Bonnie & Clyde in The Highwaymen trailer.
