Oprah for President?

-Following her barn-burning Globes speech, there’s lots of talk about Oprah running for president in 2020. I think she’d be fine (though I can’t imagine why in the world she’d ever want to).  I like this take on how celebrity is neither magic nor an automatic disqualifier.

-Here are all the mentions of sexual harassment at last night’s ceremony. Not one (NOT ONE!) of the male winners in the acting categories took the opportunity of their winning speech to address the issue.

Ewan McGregor acknowledged both his wife and his girlfriend in his acceptance speech. That’s … something.

James Franco hosted an intimate dinner for all the Golden Globe nominated actors before the show.

Franco should have let Tommy Wiseau speak.  The Room creator says that, if given time at the mic, he would have said: “If a lot of people love each other the world will be a better place to live!”

-Meanwhile, Ally Sheedy called out both James Franco and Christian Slater on Twitter during the show.

-We might want to hold our applause for Gary Oldman, too.

-Bless the journalist who asked Greta Gerwig in the backstage pressroom if she regrets working with Woody Allen.

-In a statement to Buzzfeed, Dylan Farrow is calling out people who support both anti-harassment efforts and Woody Allen. “I hope these women change the world. That said, the people who join this movement without taking any kind of personal accountability for the ways in which their own words and decisions have helped to perpetuate the culture they are fighting against, that’s hard for me to reconcile.”

-Meanwhile, Grey’s Anatomy star Ellen Pompeo completely slammed Woody Allen (and the actors who still work with him) on Twitter earlier on the weekend.

-Allow Keanu Reeves to restore your faith in the male celebrity.

-I’m glad that Netflix’s Lovesick is getting praise. I’ve only watched a couple of episodes but it’s charming af.

-Outlander’s Caitriona Balfe is engaged. Who wants to break the news to Tumblr that it’s not to costar Sam Heughan?

-This is a good piece on The X Files’ continuing struggle with female autonomy and consent. (Also, that gross twist that Chris Carter claims he’s had planned for 19 years? Old interviews prove otherwise.)

-Marvel’s Runways has been renewed for season 2. I’m a few episodes behind but I really like what I’ve seen so far.

-The CW finally announced the premiere dates for iZombie and The 100.

-At a charity auction, Brad Pitt bid $120,000 to watch Game of Thrones With Emilia Clarke. This sounds like the start of a very adorable meet cute!

-Ohhh…The Shins have a new song out!

-This thread on the lack of marketing for Proud Mary should be reprinted in the trades.

Red Sparrow starring Jennifer Lawrence looks like the Black Widow movie Marvel should have made.

Outlander Stars Get Naked for EW

outlander-ew-cover

-I no longer watch Outlander, but I really wish the casts of all of the shows I watch would do photo shoots like this. Lordy!

-This is the funniest rant you’ll read about Kate Hudson today.

Kate Winslet called Leonardo DiCaprio the “love of her life.” Oh, simmer down. He’s already going to win.

-You stay away from Lorde, Diplo! You stay far, far away!

-The writer of Idiocracy is very sad about correctly predicting the future. So are we, buddy.

Prince is about to start throwing surprise concerts all over North America. Woot!

-How nice of NBC to make sure we can all enjoy our night on March 12 instead of feeling the need to stay home and watch SNL.

Ryan Phillippe is trying his hand at stand-up comedy. If he really wants to get the crowd laughing, he should just show clips from Secrets and Lies.

-We as a society need to host an intervention with Sarah Michelle Gellar about her career, because this is a bad idea. Willow already has the banner:
-I have no desire to watch the Full House reboot, but I’m very entertained by the hilarious reviews. My favourite: “It’s like a porn parody without the porn.”

-Whoopsie! Chrissy Teigen accidentally published her phone number in her cookbook.

-I’m really surprised that the stars of Bones agreed to come back, even if it’s just for one more season.

-Here’s the first trailer for Taboo, FX’s new 8-episode drama series starring Tom Hardy in a loin cloth.

Oscar Isaac: Golden Globes’ MVP

-Room kidlet Jacob Tremblay is a huge Star Wars fan, and he had an adorable lightsaber battle with Oscar Isaac at a Golden Globes party. I’m dead.

-Meanwhile, EVERYONE wanted to meet Oscar last night. Smart folks.

-The Golden Globes were bizarre (check out our fashion recap if you haven’t already) and I still have no idea why Mel Gibson was there, but at least Ricky Gervais‘ “sugar tits” comment kept me awake.

-Speaking of Globes fashion, how do actresses not do the camera flashbulb test before hitting up a red carpet? Do they not have BFFs to help them with this sort of thing? I’m pretty sure Nicole wouldn’t let me leave my house without a thorough nipple pasty check under a variety of lighting scenarios…

Amy Poehler‘s Smart Girls asked some smart questions backstage last night.

Jennifer Lawrence had a busy night at the Globes. She was spotted talking to ex Nicholas Hoult and flirting with Chris Evans.

-I love JLaw (love her a little less for scolding a reporter last night for checking his phone when he was actually just trying to read out his question, though), but directors have got to STOP assuming she can play older than she is. Joy proves she shouldn’t.

Orlando Bloom and Katy Perry were spotted getting close at a Golden Globes after-party. I can’t even tell if that’s a step up or down from John Mayer. Lateral move?

-I still can’t get over Brad Pitt’s face. He’s Benjamin Buttoning for realsies.

-There have been a lot of wonderful David Bowie tributes today, but I especially love what Carol director Todd Haynes said about him a few weeks ago.

-Guys, I’m really confused about this Sean Penn/El Chapo thing. Is Penn going to get in trouble for interviewing him? Or did his interview help with the arrest? All he’s saying is he’s “got nothing to hide.” Um, ok?

-In the cover for V Magazine, Lady Gaga and Taylor Kinney appear naked in a post-coital selfie. But it’s for charity, so we’re not allowed to mock it. Right?

Kevin Smith to direct an episode of The Flash. Is he going to cry again?

-We can now watch the first minute of The X-Files miniseries. I’m not going to, but knock yourself out.

David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson are doing Kimmel together tomorrow. I can’t wait. I don’t even care that critics who’ve seen the first two hours are disappointed.  I just don’t.

-I’m not a huge fan of the dress Gillian wore to the Golden Globes parties, but at least she’s back on the party circuit!

-Wait, so Outlander stars Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe say that they’re not dating IRL? Sounds fake but ok.

-Netflix spent $156 million on The Crown, a drama about Queen Elizabeth II. Based on the trailer, they might have overspent.

-Speaking of streaming originals, Aaron Paul begins to have doubts about following Hugh Dancy in the new trailer for Hulu’s The Path.
