THR’s Actress Roundtable Includes Lawrence, Blige, Chastain and More

-The reviews are in for Justice League, and they are not good.

-The X Files’ next season will premiere Wednesday, January 3 on Fox. That’s way earlier than anyone anticipated.

-My goodness, I enjoyed Pink’s Carpool Karaoke. She’s a great car singer and seems like a good egg.

-Wait, are Dakota Johnson and Chris Martin dating? How did I miss this?!?

–Ben Affleck joked about the Hollywood sexual assault scandal in an interview and it did not go over well.

–Gal Gadot cleared up those rumours that she got Brett Ratner fired from the Wonder Woman sequel.  “Everyone knew what was the right thing to do. But there was nothing for me to actually come and say because it was already done before that article came out.”

-Also, that Medium story that was floating around last night about her friend being raped turned out to be fake, so stop sharing it.

-More than two dozen members of One Tree Hill’s cast/staff/crew have now come forward to condemn the harassing/demeaning environment of the show.  And yet showrunner Mark Schwahn hasn’t made a public statement yet — and seems to still be running E!’s Royals. [Update: he finally got suspended.]

-Meanwhile, Sophia Bush calling out E! is the type of quality content I live for.

–Terry Crews detailed his alleged sexual assault by agent Adam Venit.

-Gossip Girl’s Ed Westwick accused of sexual assault by a third woman.

-Five actresses revealed how a CSI casting pro urged them to disrobe in paid auditions.

–Rose McGowan says she’ll plead not guilty to those felony drug charges.  I think she has a strong case. The whole thing is shady. Alleged residue?

–Blake Shelton was named People’s sexiest man alive and Twitter was like “nah.”

-I’m cautiously intrigued by the news that Taraji P. Henson will star in the new, gender-flipped version of Nancy Meyers’s What Women Want.

–Miranda Kerr is expecting a baby with Snapchat founder Evan Spiegel.

-I can’t wait to play the Hallmark movie drinking game!

-I don’t particularly think This Is Us is a good show, but I do like that it features so many crying men.

-The season 4 finale of You’re the Worst airs tonight, and FX just announced that they’ve renewed the show for its fifth and final season. I’ve struggled to get through this season, but I’m hopeful it will get better now that they get to end it on their own terms.

–Brad Pitt is reportedly “determined to have a fully resolved” custody arrangement with Angelina Jolie soon.

-How many times has Outlander been on the cover of EW? It’s getting weird now.

-The first footage of Deadpool 2 is a Bob Ross spoof. Ok.

Arrow, Supergirl Stars Weigh in on E.P.’s Sexual Harassment Allegations

-Whoo boy. The CW, home of all my fave current shows, kind of imploded this weekend after Variety’s Mo Ryan talked to 15 women and 4 men about alleged sexual harassment from CW showrunner Andrew Kreisberg of Arrow, The Flash and Supergirl. (Ryan tweeted Monday: “If this story were published today, the number would be higher. I had an interesting weekend.). Among the allegations: he once told a woman “Wow, you look so tired that I don’t even want to have sex with you anymore” in front of her kids, he put his hands on a man’s hips and mimicked having sex, he asked an array of women for their bra sizes, he asked a woman to lie on his office floor while he assumed a push-up stance over her and then he asked her to choke him “for research.” He has been suspended.

–Carina Mackenzie, a writer on The Originals who worked on an episode of The Flash last year, tweeted (and then deleted): “When I left The Flash I told my agents I would rather live in a cardboard box under a bridge than work with AK again…I was at that show for a few short weeks & was disturbed by the way he spoke about women, the way he treated assistants and — to be honest — even the way FICTIONAL females were discussed.” (She also defended super producer Greg Berlanti, though a writer who worked on Legends of Tomorrow for two years seems to think Berlanti knew.)

-The ladies of the CW immediately stepped up, with Melissa Benoist, Caity Lotz, Emily Bett Rickards, and Chyler Leigh releasing statements. I was particularly impressed with EBR’s tweet, because it directly addressed the Arrow showrunner’s stupid, tone deaf tweet after the story surfaced about “reverse sexism.” That’s her boss! If she gets fired (or her character suddenly gets reduced screentime/plots), we’re burning that network down…

-It took a while for the CW men to get in on the action, but eventually Arrow’s David Ramsey, and  Supergirl’s David Harewood voiced their support.  Stephen Amell waited a whole day but eventually put out a pretty boss Facebook video, saying  “I thought that it was appropriate before I spoke publicly to speak with our cast and our crew, which I got the chance to do this morning…I told them this morning and I tell you now and I meant it, if anyone ever feels anything less than 100% safe…that they should come to whomever they’re supposed to go to and that I’ll stand right beside them. I’ll speak on their behalf if need be. If you’re not an active part of the solution than you are part of the problem.”

-A writer on Hannibal (the darkest show ever) called BS on the notion that you have to act disgusting in a writers room for “research.”

-The story seems to have opened the WB/CW floodgates, with a writer detailing her horrible experience on One Tree Hill. (All of the actresses from that show are publicly supporting her.)

-Screw everyone who made Mel Gibson‘s new movie a box office success this weekend.

-I watched Lady Bird this weekend instead (it’s lovely) and then I immediately texted my childhood BFF because of the movie’s generous, perfect use of “Crash Into Me.” It also did crazy good at the box office. Expect Oscar buzz on this one.

–Gal Gadot will reportedly only sign on for a Wonder Woman sequel if accused sexual harasser Brett Ratner is completely removed from the franchise. Bless her! (It just got an earlier release date, away from Star Wars, so I’m guessing she won.)

-A dozen cast and crewmembers told THR about the time in 2003 when actor Tom Sizemore was removed from a movie set in Utah for allegedly violating an 11-year-old girl.

-Because everything is terrible in Hollywood these days, someone asked Twitter for their stories about nice celebrity encounters and everyone delivered. (If you don’t want to read the whole thread, here are some highlights. This tweet about Chris Pine is my fave.)

-Thor: Ragnarok has started a jam war between Jack Black and Chris Hemsworth (except only one of them knows what that means).

-The early reviews for Justice League aren’t exactly glowing, but they’re not as horrible as I expected. So yay?

-The Weeknd may be dating Justin Bieber’s ex? That’s extra messy.

-Meanwhile, The Weeknd joined Robert Pattinson at Leonardo DiCaprio’s 43rd birthday party.

–Jennifer Lawrence and Emma Stone were all kinds of adorable together this weekend.

-Stranger Things’ David Harbour tweeting about his dad bod made my day…

-I really like this article on Stranger Things and other genre shows/movies keeping female characters apart.

-Wait, is Blake Shelton really getting named People’s Sexiest Man Alive? REALLY?!

-I’m just going to pretend this GQ cover with Colin Kaepernick is actually People.

-If season 8 happens with Suits, it will likely be without Patrick J. Adams and Meghan Markle.

-White men are the minority in the L.A. Times’ directors roundtable this year.

Blake Shelton Responds After Racist, Homophobic Tweets Resurface

–Blake Shelton went on the defensive after some terrible tweets he posted in 2009 and 2011 resurfaced earlier this week, blaming his inappropriate sense of humour. The Voice is also in damage control mode, reportedly asking outlets to not cover it in exchange for continued access to the show. Yes, blackmail should totally help this situation.

-Now Justin Beiber and Selena Gomez are taking their TMI to Snapchat. Goodie.

-THR has the scoop on what really went down between Dwayne Johnson and Vin Diesel:  On Aug. 8, Johnson was ready to shoot one of his final scenes with Diesel on Fast 8, and Diesel was in his trailer keeping everyone waiting. But an onset source says “this was how Vin has run things for the past several movies” and everyone’s been pretty much resigned to it, so Johnson’s public rant “blindsided” everyone.

-Us Weekly Claims Tom Cruise has had “essentially no contact” with Suri for about three years. If true, that’s incredibly sad. I wonder if the church has deemed her and/or Katie SPs?

-Meanwhile, Katie and Jamie Foxx were spotted backstage at a Barbra Streisand concert.

–Amber Heard‘s lawyers retracted that statement claiming she’s “vindicated” in the court of opinion. (They’re not wrong, tho.)

-Meanwhile, Billy Bob Thorton would like to erase himself from the narrative.

–Renee Zellweger denied a magazine claim that she talked to penguins — and then the writer denied her denial. Journalism!

–Diana Ross took out a full-page ad congratulating her daughter Tracee on her Emmy nom, which is all kinds of sweet.

-Stepbrothers costars Will Ferrell and John C Reilly will reunite for a new Sherlock Holmes comedy.

-THR’s cover story with Oprah and Ava DuVernay on their push for inclusion instead of diversity is so smart and thoughtful. This quote from O is basically the 100 emoji: “I realized that the best way to show that black people are just like everybody else, or that gay people are just like everybody else, is not to do a show about gay people or black fathers raising their children [but] just to include them in a story about raising children. That’s how you normalize it and make it OK for everybody else.”

–Joshua Jackson and Diane Kruger were photographed hanging out and now my brain/heart hurts. Also, he smokes? You’re killing me, Pacey!

-This is a fascinating article about the questionable donors to Leonardo Dicaprio‘s charity. He has “a notable habit of buddying up with smooth dudes who end up in federal prison.”

–Taylor Swift flew Tom Hiddleston to Rhode Island on her private jet for a reunion — but she also gave $1 million to help Louisiana flood victims so she pretty much gets a pass on everything from me this week.

-Now that Hulu has lost the rights to all of CW’s superhero shows, they decided to make their own, tapping the creators of Gossip Girl for an adaptation of Marvels’ Runaways.

-Now it sounds like The Flash and Supergirl will come together for TWO musical crossover episodes this season. This makes me nervous. Both of those shows still have to find their footing before getting all stunt-y.

-There’s more talk about how the studio is going to market Birth of a Nation in the face of the Nate Parker controversy. No one is giving him a pass.

–Jonah Hill shot down rumours that he feuded on set with Miles Teller while shooting War Dogs.

–Chris Pratt should promote every magazine he’s in exactly like this.

–Amy Schumer tweeted that she is “disappointed” in writer Kurt Metzger after his comments on a rape scandal, and he no longer works for her. Wait, she’s JUST NOW disappointed? Because he’s been pulling this crap for years.

–Cynthia Nixon plays Emily Dickinson in the trailer for A Quiet Passion, which is coming to TIFF.
