Anna Kendrick

TV’s Leading Ladies Talk Shop

Emilia Clarke, Michelle Williams, Patricia Arquette, Christine Baranski, Danai Gurira and Niecy Nash

-God, I love Emmy roundtable season! In THR’s new issue, drama actresses Emilia Clarke, Danai Gurira, Michelle Williams, Patricia Arquette, Christine Baranski and Niecy Nash gather to talk about pay parity, the pressure to look a certain way, and standing up for their characters. (I particularly liked this bit from Gurira: “I remember having an argument with the director [on Walking Dead] because I was like, ‘I know you have [this love scene] written here like this, but this is what you’re getting.’And I wrote it on the script and I handed it to him.”)

Nina Dobrev and screenwriter/director Grant Mello look blissed up in love in Cannes. I’m happy for her — she seemed to be going through it for a bit.

-A judge ordered Hayden Panettiere’s boyfriend Brian Hickerson to stay away from her after he was arrested on a domestic violence charge earlier this month.

-ABC’s live revival of classic Norman Lear sitcoms last night was weird and wonderful. I didn’t catch the whole thing but I did see Jennifer Hudson doing The Jefferson’s theme song, and Jamie Foxx‘s hilarious break in character.

Gabrielle Union says she’s coaching hubby Dwayne Wade on basic life skills now that he’s retired from basketball. “He’s like, ‘What is this place? There’s all kind of like khaki shorts and cargo shorts and there’s all different colors.’ I’m like, ‘That’s Old Navy’…He has no idea how much milk costs. He’s like, ‘What is that, $20?’ and I’m like, ‘What kind of goat’s blood milk [are you drinking]?'”

-Warner’s upcoming streaming service just landed Anna Kendrick to star in a romcom series.  Great, yet another subscription!

Lena Waithe did an amazing job last night guest-hosting for Kimmel, but everyone’s talking about the smooch Halle Berry laid on her which I found…weird. Isn’t it a little queerbaiting? Doesn’t Lena have a fiancée?

-Huh. ABC cancelled Whiskey Cavalier a couple of weeks ago, but fan outcry (and a bump in ratings) has them reconsidering the decision, with sources saying it’s now got a 50/50 shot at coming back.

-The Good Place creator Mike Schur hasn’t given any interviews about the most recent season — until now.

-I have been following this guy’s tweets for a month now and they are a consistent source of delight! His mom recently passed away and when he looked at her Kindle he was surprised to find it filled thousands of verryyyyy risque romance novels — which he is now reading and reviewing on Twitter.

-A bunch of media sites jumped the gun this morning and broke the embargo for the new Star Trek: Picard first teaser trailer, so CBS pulled it. But it’s back online now. Showing Picard (now an admiral after quitting Starfleet dues to events 15 years prior) at his winery.

-The first official trailer for Terminator: Dark Fate has arrived. Linda Hamilton is still fierce.

Demi Lovato’s Mother Breaks Her Silence About Daughter’s Overdose

-While promoting her new book, Demi Lovato‘s mom is talking about her daughter’s recent overdose. “We just didn’t know for two days if she was going to make it or not.”

Maroon 5 is rumoured to be headlining the next Super Bowl halftime show because apparently there isn’t enough depressing news in the world already.

Brad Pitt is seeing his kids more often — but still in the presence of a monitor from the Dept of Children and Family Services.

-Also, according to ET, Pitt and Angelina Jolie recently had a “secret meeting” at her house to call a truce.

Millie Bobby Brown says she’s friends with Drake and he texts her advice about boys. I’m choosing to believe that’s cute and not creepy…

-I swear, the new Fall TV season hasn’t really made much of a dent in my brain (despite writing multiple articles about it!). But there’s a new Amy Poehler-produced sitcom called I Feel Bad premiering on NBC tonight that sounds like it has potential.

-Speaking of new TV, I watched the first episode of Sorry For Your Loss last night and Elizabeth Olsen‘s performance is phenomenal.  (Facebook has uploaded four episodes.)

-The editor of The New York Review of Books is out after the magazine published an essay by Jian Ghomeshi. Good.

-When talking about his Emmy win, John Oliver revealed he has a three-month-old.

-The mystery of who was dressed up like Teddy Perkins at the Emmys continues to deepen.

Avril Lavigne is back with new music after a 5-year hiatus. It’s an intimate piano-driven ballad and it’s lovely, but I was really hoping her first comeback single would be a bop instead of a weeper about Lyme disease.

Kesha also has a new song.

-This is a good take on how the celebrity profile is dying because of A-listers afraid to have real conversations and C-listers who give it all away on social media.

Domhnall Gleeson is defending his Last Jedi costar Kelly Marie Tran, who was chased off social media by trolls. “People having an opinion about the film is absolutely fine. You pay your money, and you’re allowed to have an opinion. The stuff with Kelly was bullshit. That’s a different thing altogether, so those people are just morons. Those people are just assholes. It’s a different level of stuff. You don’t buy that when you buy your tickets.”

-Emma Approved is coming back? It’s a web series based on the Austen novel and it’s *adorable*!

-I missed this Anna Kendrick‘s bts interview with Noah Trevor a few days ago, but it’s super funny. “She’s wing manning for her own boyfriend and I respect that!”

-Now that TIFF is over, the Oscar race is finally starting to take shape.

Justin Bieber and Hailey Baldwin are honeymooning (and busking?) in London.

-So Ticketmaster is actually working with scalpers? Swell.

-I have no interest in watching The Predator, but this Ringer list of questions about The Predator is highly entertaining.

Suki Waterhouse reveals she accidentally shot someone while filming Assassination Nation in New Orleans.  How can that be a thing?!

Michelle Yeoh is not impressed by James Corden. Same.

Harvey Weinstein Breaks His Silence

weinstein cover variety
Harvey Weinstein just broke his silence (oh goodie) according to quotes in The Spectator, in which he blames his women troubles on being ugly and says “Yes, I did offer them acting jobs in exchange for sex, but so did and still does everyone. But I never, ever forced myself on a single woman.” His lawyer was quick to step in, saying “Mr. Weinstein never said anything about trading movie roles for sexual favors. You have my word that Harvey did not say that.” The writer has since walked back the quote, saying “We were discussing Hollywood and I may have misunderstood certain things about the methods of that place” — though the quotes are still up on the Spectator’s website.

-Over 40 celebs, including Rose McGowan, Paz de la Huerta, Terry Crews, Mira Sorvino, and Anthony Rapp, signed an op-ed for the Los Angeles Times asking people to stop blaming Asia Argento for boyfriend Anthony Bourdain’s death.

Henry Cavill has been shamed into an apology for his stupid #MeToo statements (though he took pains to point out that “This experience has taught me a valuable lesson as to the context and the nuance of editorial liberties” cause, you know, saying a flirt can be confused for a rapist is clearly something that can be misquoted and taken out of context by those meanie journalists!)

-Speaking of taking action after a public shaming, Scarlett Johansson has dropped out of the movie in which she was set to depict a trans man.

-Did Ariana Grande just sweep in late to claim the song of the summer? ‘Cause that video is kinda everything.

-I don’t even go here, but it’s pretty neat that Downton Abbey’s original cast will reunite for a big screen movie adaption.

-The timeline Amanda Seyfried tries to portray in regards to her relationship with Thomas Sadoski doesn’t quite line up, does it?

-I keep forgetting that Neil Gaiman is adapting Good Omens for TV, and then every time I’m reminded it’s like Christmas morning all over again!

-No, YOU cried over this video of Jonathan Van Ness reacting to his double Emmy noms for Queer Eye and Gay of Thrones.

Yvette Nicole Brown is going to step in to host The Walking Dead preview special as AMC “works to complete our assessment related to Chris Hardwick.”

Joss Whedon is returning to TV full-time with HBO’s straight-to-series sci-fi Victorian drama The Nevers. HBO reportedly beat out Netflix to nab the series. I know he’s problematic af, but I just can’t help but be intrigued…

Miley Cyrus just went social media dark. Either she’s about to announce a new project, or she’s just tired of competing with Will Smith’s hilarious video edits.

-I get the biggest smile whenever I read this Vulture reporter’s interviews with Sandra Oh.  They’re just so cute with each other!

Paula Abdul’s Forever Your Girl album is turning 30. I watched the new Whitney doc last night (which is so, so good!) and there was the best Abdul slam in it. My theatre collectively gasped.

-The Bay suddenly pulled all Ivanka Trump products due to “performance.”

Michael Pena fights aliens in Netflix’s Extinction.

Blake Lively and Anna Kendrick strike up an unlikely friendship in Paul Feig’s A Simple Favor.
