Rachel Lindsay Speaks Out About the Bachelor

–Rachel Lindsay, the first black Bachelorette, officially ended her contract with Bachelor Nation in April, but now she’s sharing exactly what led to that choice. She delivered a powerful commentary in an essay for Vulture: “The (Bachelor) franchise has spent 19 years cultivating a toxic audience. They have constantly given it a product it wants: a midwestern/southern white, blonde, light-eyed Christian.” She added, “I’m no longer making myself available to The Bachelor universe. To the franchise, I am no longer a figurehead. I am no longer a spot-filler. I am no longer the face of what is diverse.”

-In Variety’s Actors on Actors interview, Elisabeth Moss and Gillian Anderson chatted about spending their 20s on a hit show.

–Nick Cannon is about to welcome his 7th child. He’s had 4 kids within 6 months from 3 different women.

-The new Ted Lasso trailer has arrived. It needs 80% more Roy, but I laughed really hard at “It’s like Dukes of Hazards. Or over here you probably call it Earls of Risk is very funny. Also, “Rom-Communism.”

–Billie Eilish talked to Rolling Stone about planning to move out of her parent’s house, how she only watches TV on her phone (“I can’t go to the bathroom without watching something on my phone. I can’t brush my teeth. I can’t wash my face”) and getting over a fame-related traumatic experience (“I went through some crazy shit, and it really affected me and made me not want to go near anyone ever”). She also brought her dog to the photoshoot.

-Meanwhile, her rumoured boyfriend is apologizing for old racist and homophobic social posts.

–Anthony Mackie is getting some heat on Twitter for his comments about people shipping his character with Sebastian Stan‘s in Falcon & The Winter Solider. “So many things are twisted and convoluted. There’s so many things that people latch on to with their own devices to make themselves relevant and rational…It used to be guys can be friends, we can hang out, and it was cool…You can’t do that anymore, because something as pure and beautiful as homosexuality has been exploited by people who are trying to rationalize themselves.” I agree with this thread that actors shouldn’t be required to speak on the writers’ queerbaiting — though having an answered prepared wouldn’t hurt. But I really agree with this thread about how queer audiences are desperate for representation because there’s so little of it in Hollywood, and it’s really not hard to just say “hey man, you do you.” Mark Hamill had it right when he was asked questions like this.

-Though full reviews for Black Widow are still embargoed, the first initial reactions are positive, with Florence Pugh getting lots of shout outs for her performance.

-There’s talk that Machine Gun Kelly and Megan Fox are already considering marriage.

–Hugh Grant is shooting down rumours that he has a green card marriage.

-I liked H.E.R.’s profile in Variety. “H.E.R. isn’t a persona; it’s not something that I think I have to turn on. It’s me: my true self.”

-It feels like Stephen Colbert is having a really busy week trying to throw his guests a life raft and stop them from saying more — and they just won’t.

-The Friends reunion is the gift that keeps on giving. On James Corden’s show last night, he aired a clip of a “carpool karaoke” segment he filmed with the cast at the time.

–Marc Maron was taking some hits on Twitter over an interview he did with William Zabka (in which he admitted he’s never seen the show, so the actor stepped in.

–Meghan Markle can now add “NYT best-selling author” to her resume.

-This could become a problem with travel. Springsteen On Broadway and Jimmy Fallon’s show will not allow audience members who were vaccinated with AstraZeneca.

–Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom star in this dystopian-themed short to fight voter suppression.

-Um, Nicolas Cage is in a new movie about a truffle hunter who searches for his pig after she is kidnapped. It’s called Pig. I can’t believe this is real.

-Here’s the first trailer for Apple TV+ series The Shrink Next Door, starring Will Ferrell, Paul Rudd, Casey Wilson and Kathryn Hahn.

Reese Witherspoon Talks Movies and Money

-This is a very non-Reese Witherspoon cover for Interview. She talked to Tracee Ellis Ross for Interview about being a woman in Hollywood (“I had a studio head say to me, “Reese, we already have a movie with a woman this year. We can’t make another one'”) and having conversations about money (“The [thing] that really drives me nuts is that women aren’t encouraged to have conversations about financial literacy. And when things drive me crazy long enough, I feel like I’ve got to go do something about it, and it takes me a while to figure out what to do, but I’ll bring it up to literally everybody who crosses my path. You know me as the ‘How will this make money?’ and ‘Where is the revenue stream?’ girl”).

–Ariana Grande joined James Corden to celebrate the end of lockdowns in New York and California by singing a new version of Hairspray.

–Harry Styles is really pushing into acting, huh? There’s also talk that he’s in the Eternals movie (which may be how Selma Hayek knows him).

-I’m loving this new Vincent song with Tegan & Sara.

-Oh god. Dwayne Johnson is totally going to run for president, isn’t he? “I’m not a politician nor did I ever have political passions, and quite frankly I’m not sure I even have the patience or resignation to deal with the B.S. that comes with politics and politicians, but when 46% of Americans say they’re in favour of me becoming president, that forces me to humbly and respectfully stand up, listen and learn.

-Not surprisingly, new mom Meghan Markle will not be flying to London with Prince Harry for the unveiling of the new Princess Diana statue next month.

-I really liked this conversation between Bowen Yang and Jean Smart for Variety. She told him: “I would like to thank you personally for speaking out against the violence against Asian peoples that has been going on. My daughter is from China. We adopted her when she was 10 months old, and I do worry lately.”

–Paris Jackson says the paparazzi has left her with PTSD: “I experience auditory hallucinations sometimes with camera clicks and severe paranoia and have been going to therapy for a lot of things but that included. I’ll hear a trash bag rustling and flinch in panic. I think it’s standard PTSD.”
