Gillian Anderson Talks X Files Pay Fight

gillian-anderson-harpers-bazaar

Gillian Anderson looks lovely in the new Harper’s Bazaar UK, where she talks about feminism, sexual identity and why she went public when she was offered half of David Duchovny‘s salary. “That is a blatant inequality. They’re not going to make The X-Files without me. They’re either going to step up to the plate or they’re not going to make them at all, so I don’t really feel that I put my neck out in any way.”

Patrick Dempsey sure is saying a lot of words in his People cover story. He talks about reconciling with his wife (“You’ve got to communicate, and stay open and not get lazy. And not give up. And lots of sex!”) and tries to make us believe that killing McDreamy was a joint decision with Shonda Rhimes. Uh huh.

-Lainey’s analysis of how Tom Hiddleston is controlling the breakup narrative is all kinds of fascinating. I seriously didn’t know he had this in him.

-Meanwhile, Idris Elba and Chris Hemsworth interrupted Tom Hiddleston’s acceptance speech for the TV Choice Awards, and it was adorable.

-I’m actually surprised it took Jessica Biel this long to realize she’s a TV girl and not a movie girl.

-Why is Drake‘s dad trying to burst our Drake/Rihanna bubble? WHY?!?!

-Meanwhile, Drake reportedly “went ballistic” after thieves ripped off millions in jewelry from tour bus. Seems fair.

Justin Theroux with a beard is making me feel…things.

-Not surprisingly, Brad Pitt is no fan of Donald Trump. “What does he even mean, take our country back?”

-Let’s all just simmer down with that talk of Daniel Craig getting a $150 million James Bond payday, ok?

-Whoa. After all the mud they slung at each other, I was not expecting Halle Berry and Olivier Martinez to quietly call off their divorce.

Madonna and Guy Ritchie have finally settled their custody battle over 16-year-old son Rocco.

Taran Killam did a short about leaving SNL, shot in the style of the NFL show Hard Knocks.

-I really like this interview with Greg Berlanti on superhero TV-making (though I’m bummed they didn’t ask him about his time on Dawson’s Creek. He pushed through Jack’s first kiss with a guy, and the Pacey/Joey romance. If you ever want to take a deep dive into TV production, read The Billion Dollar Kiss.)

-Speaking of Dawson’s Creek, here’s a photo of Joshua Jackson wet and on a surfboard. Because I love you.

Zayn Malik is developing an NBC series with Dick Wolf inspired by One Direction. So many parts of that sentence confuse me.

-Wait, Gavin Rossdale is now dating Tiger Woods’ ex-wife, Elin Nordegren? Huh.

-This is a riveting profile of Tom Ford, who opens up about his battle with depression and sobriety. “Death is all I think about. There is not a day or really an hour that goes by that I don’t think about death.”

-Good to see the early reviews of Netflix’s new show Luke Cage are glowing.

-I think I’m going to stop reading about the Gilmore Girls revival because it’s getting too spoilery. Like, do we really need the 1st page of the script? (I did appreciate the “you’ve been Goop’d” burn, though).

Gwyneth Paltrow says she wouldn’t consciously uncouple via Goop again. “It sort of wouldn’t be appropriate now. It is a much bigger business and I’m not sure it would be the right place to do something like that.”

-Why doesn’t anyone seem to like this Chanel dress on Keira Knightley? I’m coveting the shit out of it.

-Meanwhile, Keira would like you to know that she’s not going bald.

Will Smith meets Love (Keira Knightley) and Death (Helen Mirren) in the first Collateral Beauty. The movie looks intriguing, but it opens against Rogue One.

Are Taylor Swift and Tom Hiddleston Over?

taylor-swift-tom-hiddleston

-Forget the kids going back to school. The true end of summer 2016 was marked today by the reported breakup of Taylor Swift and Tom Hiddleston. (That being said, I’m side-eyeing Us Weekly’s source who’s claiming “Tom wanted the relationship to be more public than she was comfortable with.” That just can’t be right.)

-Take it with a giant salt lick ’cause it’s coming from Radar, but they claim Katie Holmes can’t go public with Jamie Foxx until 2017 because it’s part of her divorce agreement.

Drake says he’s going to open a “classy” strip club in Houston called The Ballet, because Drake.

-The plot thickens! Drake *also* has a shark tattoo.

-Meanwhile, Rihanna had an interesting morning after in Soho.

Brie Larson has apologized after posting a photo of herself petting a dolphin to Instagram because the internet has no chill.

50 Cent just won a bunch of good dad points by cosplaying as Teen Titans Go’s Cyborg for his son’s birthday party.

Oprah Winfrey set the record straight on those silly Stedman Graham wedding rumors.

-I don’t even watch Supernatural but I kind of love that their fandom is responsible for them getting their first EW cover — 12  seasons in.

Chris Brown is speaking out after his arrest, saying “My character’s been defaced.” Feel like that ship sailed ages ago, buddy.

Demi Lovato got a really big, really ugly tattoo on her arm and Snapped the whole process.

-Not gonna lie: one of the reasons I’m going to the Nocturnal Animals premiere at TIFF is to see how director Tom Ford dresses his leading lady, Amy Adams. She killed it in Venice.

-A movie that I’m not seeing at TIFF but wish I was is Moonlight, which is getting raves. The film continues amazing run for Brad Pitt’s Plan B, which is likely to have a fourth consecutive best picture nominee.

-Wow, Bridget Jones Baby is actually getting good reviews? Did not see that one coming…

-I’m not sold on Renee Zellweger’s premiere dress, tho.

-Two of my favourite TV critics just put out a book, and this excerpt about Buffy has convinced me to buy it.

-I got 8/10 on this “Name That Hamilton Yo” quiz, and I’m so disappointed in myself.

-This new photo from the Gilmore Girls reboot is super unflattering for Luke. Which kinda makes me love it.

-Don’t. Remake. Heathers.

John Boyega continues to be one of my favourite celebrity tweeters because of adorable crap like this.

-Surprise, surprise. Amy Schumer‘s book isn’t selling so well.

Channing Tatum offered Ellen Degeneres a preview of the new Magic Mike show coming to Vegas. This is going to factor into a lot of my vacation planning next year…

-Also, watching Channing fangirl over meeting Simone Biles is all kinds of swoony.

-Lots of good reaction has been written about Lena Dunham‘s problematic comments last week. Complex’s take on her white privilege is getting the most buzz, but I also kind of liked this one about how she’s a f*ckboy.

Amber Heard has reportedly dropped that Doug Stanhope defamation suit.

Jude Law plays a hot pope in a new HBO movie, The Young Pope.

Chris Evans’ Puppy Pushups

John Krasinski challenged Chris Evans and Miles Teller (ugh) to the #22PushUpChallenge, and Chris’ response features the most adorable dog distraction ever!

-You know what’s nuts? After that totally gross video that came out on Friday of Johnny Depp hurling a wine glass at Amber Heard, I still saw people on Twitter cape for him. I don’t get it. Let’s see what they say now that TMZ is reporting he once accidentally cut off the tip of his finger while fighting with her, then wrote on the wall in blood “Billy Bob” – the name of the actor he was accusing her of cheating on him with. Charming.

-Also, I appreciated this article on how Heard and Lindsay Lohan suffer from being imperfect victims.

Justin Bieber has threatened to make his Instagram private if commenters don’t stop attacking his new lady, Sofia Richie (who is Lionel Richie‘s daughter. You know who I found out this weekend is NOT actually Lionel Richie’s daughter? Nicole Richie. #MindBlown)

Justin‘s pleas for civility somehow led to a pissing contest between him and Selena Gomez, with her insinuating he cheated — and him shooting back with “oh I forgot about you and Zayn?” Not surprisingly, their fans spent the weekend having meltdowns.

Thomas Gibson is reporting mulling a lawsuit over his Criminal Minds firing. I guess that explains why his statement didn’t include an apology.

-Meanwhile, his ex-costar Shemar Moore is subtweeting him. (Also, I’m now going to end every Instagram video with “church is over.”)

Jared Padalecki got bad service from a waitress — so he posted a photo of her face to his 3M followers. And then he defended the post by comparing people who say he shouldn’t complain to people who say he shouldn’t be depressed. Nope, nope, all the nopes. You don’t get to play any of those cards, Dean.

This is a great read about how Mr Robot isn’t getting the critical reception this summer of Netflix shows like Stranger Things and The Get Down, but at least it’s trying something completely different.

-Speaking of Stranger Things, this interview/lovefest between Aaron Paul and the little girl who plays Eleven is all kinds of adorable. And then his wife jumps on the phone so she can fangirl too? Kill me now.

-Bad word of mouth resulted in a huge Batman V Superman-like box office drop in Suicide Squad’s second weekend. So why is WB still heavily investing in Zack Snyder’s vision of the DCEU?

-Lowly movie studio employees are rising up. First we got last week’s open letter to the WB and now the comments section of an interview with the directors of Sausage Party was overrun with anonymous sources claiming animators were reportedly forced to work for free and generally treated like poo. (I saw the film over the weekend. I thought it was just meh.)

Tom Hiddleston is blaming the deluge of photos of him with Taylor Swift on the fact that “we all live in a world where every phone has a camera.” Sure, but do we also all live in a world where everyone has long-lensed professional cameras on remote beaches?

The Nightly Show With Larry Wilmore was canceled today, which sucks because they’re not even going to get to cover the election. It’s not exactly surprising giving its lack of ratings and buzz.  Wilmore released a statement about “The Unblackening” of the Comedy Network.

-This is weak sauce: Adele says she was approached by the Super Bowl to do the next halftime show and declined, so the NFL and Pepsi ran to Billboard with a statement about how there was no “formal” offer. Yeah. Because she declined.

Bella Thorne and Gregg Sulkin split after more than a year together. I have no idea who either of these people are, but my Twitter timeline is devastated. Sorry?

-Congrats to Kevin Hart, who married longtime girlfriend Eniko Parrish on Saturday.

Natalie Portman gushing about French women sounds like me every time I visit France.

-Is it weird that these photos make me want to party with Liam Hemsworth and Miley Cyrus?

-This is such a good look at Nate Parker’s problematic past and how that may (or should?) change our view of Birth of a Nation.

Brad Pitt and Marion Cotillard are oh so pretty in the Allied trailer.

-The untold story of NASA’s genius black women gets the spotlight in the Hidden Figures trailer, starring Taraji P. Henson.
