Tiffany Haddish

Issa Rae’s Next Chapter

issa rae vanity fair cover

Issa Rae is on the cover of Vanity Fair and talks about letting go of Insecure (“I told myself I would never write and be in a show that I created again. It takes up a lot of your life, and I like to do a lot of things. I love doing this show. I’m so grateful to be able to do this show. But that’s just not really for me”) and bringing Project Greenlight back with a focus on female filmmakers (“I want this version of the show to make filmmaking feel attainable”).

Kaia Gerber is on the cover of Vogue’s new issue.

Tiffany Haddish is widely seen as a dream get as Ellen’s replacement is reportedly being heavily courted.

Emma Stone talked about having her Oscar be presented to her by Leonardo DiCaprio. “I’d seen Titanic 7-1/2 times in theatres. He was the love of my life. I had a picture of him in my bedroom that was signed that I’d gotten for my birthday when I was 12 years old. And I was WALKING TO LEO.”

Adam Sandler went viral for joining pick-up basketball game.

Lena Waithe says Aziz Ansari decided not to be the focus of Master of None Season 3 “long before” his sexual misconduct controversy.

Nicole Kidman and Melissa McCarthy‘s new show, Nine Perfect Strangers, just got an August premiere date and a new trailer.

Mischa Barton talked about her time on The OC — and it didn’t sound great. “It started pretty early on because it had a lot to do with them adding Rachel (Bilson) in last minute as, after the first season, a series regular and evening out everybody’s pay—and sort of general bullying from some of the men on set that kind of felt really sh*tty.” She also talked about her decision to leave the show: “It just felt like it was the best thing for me and my health and just in terms of not really feeling protected by my cast and crew at that point.” So I guess that rules her out as being a future guest on Bilson’s podcast about the series…

Kumail Nanjiani is set to star in a Hulu limited series about the founder of Chippendales.

A Quiet Place Part II is getting really good reviews and I wish the theatres were open/safe here.

St. Vincent and Carrie Brownstein put their friendship to the test in the trailer for The Nowhere Inn.

Olivia Rodrigo’s In The Driver’s Seat

Olivia Rodrigo on the cover of Billboard Magazine

-It’s a big week for Olivia Rodrigo. She finally met Taylor Swift IRL and now she’s on the cover of Billboard Magazine.

-Well, this is unexpected. John Mulaney and Olivia Munn are dating, says People.

-In other surprising couples news, Kat Dennings and Andrew W.K. confirmed that they are engaged.

-Are Kourtney Kardashian and Travis Barker the horniest famous couple? Their social media interactions point to “yes”.

Gal Gadot had a chance to redeem herself. She did not.

Josh Duhamel says he sent Armie Hammer an email after replacing him in Shotgun Wedding. “I know Armie a little bit, and when I knew I was gonna get the part, I emailed him and said, ‘Listen, I know you are going through it right now, I don’t like to get roles like this and I just wanted to let you know that I am thinking about you and good luck, get through it.'” I wonder if he sent similarly supportive notes to Hammer’s alleged victims?

Tom Cruise is not apologizing for his rant on the Mission: Impossible 7 set: “I said what I said. There was a lot at stake at that point.”

Prince Harry appeared on Dax Shepard’s podcast and said he and Meghan Markle would pretend not to know one another when they went shopping in the U.K. in the early days of their relationship.

Colton Underwood says he was ‘blackmailed’ into coming out.

Chloé Zhao, Issa Rae and Emerald Fennell are among THR’s 2021 Women in Entertainment Power 100 list.

-I’m surprised NBC agreed to end This Is Us since it seems to be one of the few legitimate network hits left, but good for them for going out on their own terms.

-Yesterday Ellen DeGeneres alluded to cancel culture when she announced her show’s ending, and today she said that the toxic workplace complaints were “orchestrated”. She told the Today Show: “I really didn’t understand it. I still don’t understand it. It was too orchestrated. It was too coordinated. People get picked on, but for four months straight for me. And then for me to read in the press about a toxic work environment, when all I’ve ever heard from every guest that comes on the show is what a happy atmosphere this is and what a happy place this is.” Right, because celebrities guests who pop in for two hours would have similar experiences as fulltime crew members.

-Meanwhile, her former employees are happy that she seems to be facing consequences.

-There’s talk that Tiffany Haddish might fill Ellen’s shoes.

John Barrowman has been removed from the Doctor Who Immersive Experience in the wake of allegations of inappropriate onset behavior.

-Another showrunner (this time the guy behind All Rise) reportedly made everyone’s life miserable before getting fired.

-I never thought I’d say this, but the long-delayed Friends reunion special might actually be worth the wait? It will feature guest stars David Beckham, Justin Bieber, BTS, James Corden, Cindy Crawford, Cara Delevingne, Lady Gaga, Kit Harington, Mindy Kaling, Tom Selleck, Reese Witherspoon, Malala Yousafzai and more. BTS alone will make it a ratings monster.

Jennifer Garner and Édgar Ramírez visited a migrant shelter at the U.S.-Mexico border.

-The Knives Out 2 cast keeps expanding. Yesterday we heard about Janelle Monáe, and today’s addition is Kathryn Hahn (who’s clearly going to be the murderer, ’cause it was Agatha all along).

Grimes says she was hospitalized for a panic attack after appearing on SNL.

-I’m assuming Channing Tatum has a social media manager who posted this comment on Jonah Hill‘s post, but it’s hilarious and he should take all the credit.

-Well. Dave Chappelle got Covid hanging out with Joe Rogan, Grimes and Elon Musk during his ten-day residency at a BBQ restaurant during a pandemic.

-The first few new episodes of SNL this year will feature first-time hosts John Krasinki, Regina King, and…wait for it… Dan Levy!

Casey Affleck is promoting Our Friend (a movie I really liked, despite his presence) and that means he’s facing lots of awkward questions about his brother Ben‘s relationship status.

-I really adored Sarah Jessica Parker’s Grub Street column, especially when she describes her family meals (so many beans!) and talks about missing restaurants. This part hit me hard: “To me, being on the subway with a book, heading toward a meal, I honestly can’t think of anything better…It’s a vacation — you are literally transported — and I miss it so much it hurts.”

Meghan McCain was trending again for saying some more stupid stuff on The View, but I was too distracted by her contouring to focus.

Jane Krakowski’s publicist had a field day when denying the actress is dating the MyPillow CEO: “She is, however, in full fledged fantasy relationships with Brad Pitt, Rege-Jean Page and Kermit the Frog and welcomes any and all coverage on those.”

-This Barbara Kay column on how text messages “exonerate” Jessica Mulroney is bizarre. They didn’t even verify the texts? And Mulroney admits to deleting a message? And the whole thing starts with a long, rambling screed against cancel culture? What is happening?!

-I kind of lost myself a little bit in this weirdly engrossing oral history of the making of High School Musical.

-There’s a new superhero show coming from the creator of The Walking Dead starring Steven Yeun. I just saw him in Minari and though I’m not sure I loved it as much as critics did, he’s phenomenal.
