The X Files

The New X Files Trailer Is Here, And It’s Awesome

-My excitement for the X Files reboot was tempered when the TV critics I love all said they hated the clip they showed at the TCAs, but damn if the new 2-minute trailer doesn’t have me all in again. ALL. IN.

-This clip of Tina Fey appearing on Billy on the Street is life. “There’s your feminist right there.”

Jimmy Kimmel gave Matt Damon a much-needed break this week by having him on his show last night for couple’s therapy. I’m still mad at him, but his Dr. Phil impression was on point.

-I didn’t watch Trevor Noah‘s new Daily Show but the consensus seems to be that it’s not so new after all?

-Guys, I think I’m shipping Haley Atwell and Chris Evans IRL. Is that wrong?

-I missed this video when it first came out in August, but the host of the Station Agents podcast was talking about terrible Emma Roberts was when the Scream Queens cast visited the Vanity Fair offices and how Abigail Breslin waited on her hand and foot, so I looked it up. Holy crap. When Ariana Grande comes off as the normal nice one, what is life?

-A FNL cast reunion with babies? [dies]

-Well crap, one hug and now I want to watch Sleepy Hollow again. God, I’m easy.

-So sad: Jim Carrey’s ex-girlfriend Cathriona White was found dead with a note found at scene.

Paul Walker’s daughter is suing Porsche, claiming “wrongful death.”

-The Avengers: Age of Ultron Honest Trailer is pretty great. I especially liked “Uh, guys? I think we just broke Joss Whedon” and “Roughly one week of Ultron.”

-Also, these Avengers: Age Of Ultron bloopers are the stuff fanfic dreams are made of.

Mindy Kaling is super happy that Reese Witherspoon was spotted with her book. I don’t blame her.

-Critics seem to be liking The Affair’s second season better than its first. Also, equality nudity!

-ABC Family has given a series commitment to a comedy based on Nicki Minaj’s young life — and she’ll appear in it.

-I like Disclosure’s new video featuring Lorde, especially after she tweeted “one of my life goals has always been ‘to one day play a hitgirl who pretends to seduce then burns alive douchey boyfriends'”

-Does Leonardo DiCaprio‘s Oscar campaign start with him being not so much of a dick?

-DiCaprio is left for dead in The Revenant’s first official trailer.

Selena Gomez Talks Justin Bieber, Taylor Swift in Elle

selena-gomez-elle-october-2015

-I love the styling of Selena Gomez’s new Elle cover, but the interview preview is a little eye-rolly. Authentic is not exactly the first word that springs to mind when I think of her.

-It’s good to see that Liam Hemsworth is having fun with all the free swag that gets sent to his hotel room during the fest.

-Considering all the amazing restaurants on King Street, there is no excuse why Kristen Stewart and Nicolas Hoult ended up eating at Hooters following their TIFF premiere. Like, none.

-Where Johnny Depp and Amber Heard go, drama follows. Even in Toronto.

-I went to the Spotlight premiere last night and also noticed that Rachel McAdams was strangely quiet. I just assumed it was because the real reporters the movie is based on took part in the Q&A and she wanted to give them the spotlight (no pun intended).

-Spotlight was one of my favourite TIFF films so far (Brooklyn is the other), but it’s a strange year where there seems to be no critical consensus or breakout hit. It’ll make for wide open Oscar race.

-Every time I get the urge to watch Empire and see what all the fuss is about, I’m going to read this article about Terrence Howard‘s special brand of crazy to remind myself why I shouldn’t.

-The Black Keys’ Patrick Carney has responded to Jack White’s comments about that alleged fight in a NYC bar, and it might be the best statement ever: “I got into music because of people like him. The bully assholes who made me feel like nothing. Music was a collaborative and non competitive thing. So, to get macho bullsh-t from within the musical community makes me angry and sad.”

-“Peak TV” is a phrase critics have been throwing around all summer. Here’s a good primer on it.

-The X Files reboot now has an air date: Jan 24, 2016. Chris Carter also explained why Mulder and Scully are the way they are at the beginning of the show. Basically, it’s because it’d be easier to write, which…meh.

Julia Roberts wished she’d washed her hair before Taylor Swift surprised her by pulling her onstage during a concert.

-Everyone talks a lot about the drawbacks of outrage culture so it’s nice to hear Sarah Silverman’s counter argument about comics who don’t want to play college campuses anymore.

Jimmy Fallon and Justin Timberlake take their bromance to another level with wordless conversations.

-Things looking up for Ben Affleck, according to People magazine. Does that mean a reconciliation is in progress — or is that just what his camp wants us to think?

-This is a really good analysis of Matt Damon‘s diversity comments. Start at this tweet and read her whole thread below.

-Speaking of diversity, I really like Salon’s piece about representation on TV. This is especially relevant today, as CBS chief Nina Tassler just stepped down and she was the only woman running a network solo.

-Journalists should probably stop asking famous peeps about their sexuality because they’re having none of it. See: Tom Hardy and Demi Lovato.

Ariana Grande was on GMA this morning to promote her new perfume and had to talk about the donut incident. At least she had the decency to put her (pony)tail between her legs and seem ashamed.

Chloe Grace Moretz takes on aliens in The 5th Wave trailer. I read this book last summer when I was going through a YA binge. It’s solid.

-Wow, the first trailer for Disney’s live-action version of The Jungle Book is insanely good.

New X-Files Footage: Mulder and Scully Actually Talk!

-More new X Files footage! This time, Mulder says Scully‘s name. Hold me.

-I’m not saying that I cried a little on the subway while listening to Jake Gyllenhaal talk about Heath Ledger on NPR’s Fresh Air podcast, but I’m not NOT saying it.

-This Tom Hiddleson and Elizabeth Olsen thing is really happening!

Angelina Jolie is joining Brad Pitt and jumping on the Netflix movie bandwagon.

-Off-and-on couple Katy Perry and John Mayer just hit the off switch again.

-Damn, Janet Jackson looks great in her new video. I love that she’s back. I might have watched this an amount of times that isn’t necessarily socially acceptable.

John Stamos tweeted that he’s left rehab and is “healthy.”

-The interwebs seems super upset about the way Wayward Pines ended last night because apparently they collectively forgot it’s an M Night Shayamalan show.

Hulk Hogan is apologizing for using the n-word (in his sex tape!) after being fired by the WWE.

-I don’t know about all these stories that say Nicki Minaj wants to collaborate with Taylor Swift. I watched the GMA interview when she said that, and the way she said “Sure, I’d love to!” was the same way I’d say “Sure, you can totally bring your three children under 5 to my dinner party!”

-Jesus. Bill Cosby’s lawyer is trying to use one of his accuser’s tweets against her. Not even her tweets, her subtweets!

-Despite all those rumours, Jon Hamm and Jennifer Westfeldt are apparently still together. I can’t decide if this makes me happy or not.

Kristen Bell called a girl with an inoperable brain tumor and pretended to be Princess Anna from Frozen. I’m not crying, you’re crying!

Tom Cruise reportedly exiled his 14-year-old niece from their family because she kissed a boy (gasp!).

-It’s not all bad news for Tom. His new Mission Impossible movie is getting early raves.

-This may be a little inside baseball, but damn if this Grantland story about a guy who does nothing but break superhero movie news isn’t fascinating. Who knew the superhero scoop racket was so dramatic? The story is certainly making waves.

-In other superhero geek news, is it really the Russo Brothers who are posting these Civil War set sneaks? Whoever it is, I think the pics are legit.

Zac Efron and Wes Bentley bro down in the new trailer for We Are Your Friends.
