Lizzo Is an Entertainer of the Year

EW’s Entertainers of the Year include LizzoAwkwafina, Renée Zellweger, Regina King, Taika Waititi and the cast of Succession.  I love how everyone is lusting over the Jeremy Strong pic. I don’t see it as Kendall but his real life photo shoots bring a whole other energy. Also, Sarah Snook talks in her adorable real accent in the video and she so wonderfully perky and un-Shiv-like.

-Time also named Lizzo the entertainer of the year. My Spotify Wrapped rankings would agree.

-Well, it now makes more sense why Justin Timberlake broke his silence on the affair rumours long after the story had died down. According to Us Weekly, “Jessica encouraged Justin to put out his statement on Instagram because she felt embarrassed by his actions and wanted him to take accountability.” People is quoting a source who says Jessica will stand by her man: “Obviously Justin drank too much this time, but Jessica believes he didn’t cheat on her. What’s most important to her in life is her family and being the best mom to Silas. She’ll never break up her family over something like this.”

-Meanwhile, Bette Midler wants Justin Timberlake to publicly apologize to Janet Jackson. Don’t we all?

-In the Hollywood Reporter, Reese Witherspoon addresses the backlash over her sizeable paycheque for Apple’s The Morning Show. “I guarantee these companies are real smart, and if they agree to pay us, they’re doing it for a reason. They probably had a lot of lawyers and a lot of business people decide on that number because they knew that they were going to make more than that back. Does it bother people when Kobe Bryant or LeBron James make their contract?”

-The SAG nominations were announced today. It’s insane that Knives Out isn’t nominated for ensemble cast, but good on the cast of Parasite for making the cut (I finally saw that movie and holy s%$# it’s amazing).

Harvey Weinstein and his former studio have a tentative $25 million deal with his accusers. Weinstein, accused of offenses ranging from sexual harassment to rape, won’t have to apologize, admit wrongdoing or pay his own money.

-How did I miss all the GIFs of Aaron Taylor-Johnson’s penis this week? (NSFW, obvs)

-As we recover from the first half of the CW crossover (which just isn’t as fun as they usually are, right?) here’s the first trailer for the CW’s newest superhero show Stargirl, starring Luke Wilson.

-Look, I don’t even go here but why is the Star Wars cast shading Rian Johnson and The Last Jedi? He did what he had to do.

-Holy cow the trailer for Promising Young Woman, starring Carey Mulligan, looks amazing! It costars Connie Britton, Molly Shannon, Alison Brie, Adam Brody and Max Greenfield.

Saoirse Ronan Says She “Needed” to Play Jo in Little Women

Saoirse Ronan Little Women

-In her Variety cover story, Saoirse Ronan says “I tapped Greta [Gerwig] on the shoulder and said I heard she was doing Little Women, and that I needed to be Jo.” She says when Gerwig said she had to think about it, she replied “Oh, for f—k’s sake.” Gerwig, however, remembers it a bit differently: “Saoirse told me she was playing Jo.”

Michael B Jordan shot his Esquire cover story at his old high school.

-Speaking of great covers, Queen and Slim’s Jodie Turner-Smith and Daniel Kaluuya are on Vibe’s digital cover.

-This is gutting: Supergirl’s Melissa Benoist posted a raw, unflinching 14-minute video on Instagram detailing the abuse she says she suffered at the hands of an ex. Those she doesn’t name her alleged attacker, she claims he once threw an iPhone at her face so hard it tore her iris, and they made up a story about how she tripped and fell on a potted plant. She retold the potted plant story on The Tonight Show and at the time told Jimmy Fallon it happened the day after she landed Supergirl, which — if true — means it would have been in 2015 when she was married to Glee costar Blake Jenner.

Keke Palmer‘s song association video is wonderful. It’s almost as good as her impassioned defense of the movie Titanic.

-I like how many Canada callouts there are in Dan Levy‘s 73 Questions with Vogue video.

-Former Grey’s Anatomy actor Isaiah Washington is getting a show on Fox News’ streaming service. Sounds about right.

-Variety dug deeper into Gabrielle Union and Julianne Hough‘s departures from America’s Got Talent. According to their story, when Jay Leno was a guest on the show and allegedly made a racist joke about Koreans, Gabrielle told producers to report the incident to human resources. She also urged producers to cut a white contestant impersonating Beyonce from the lineup. Sources also say Union and Hough received excessive notes on their physical appearance.

-This interview with Olivia Colman and Tobias Menzies is a total delight.

-Why is Drake texting Billie Eilish? She’s 17.

-Thor: Ragnarok director Taika Waititi commented on Martin Scorsese‘s controversial Marvel statements: “Maybe it’s too colorful for him.”

Ira is in Toronto, which means his appearance on The Social was perfectly timed for him to drag Justin Timberlake.

-I finally caught up to Sunday’s episode of Watchmen and gah, that show is doing extraordinary things. I’ve liked pretty much every episode (we’re six into its 9-ep run), but this latest one somehow managed to expertly tackle race, class, white-washing and childhood trauma in eye-poppingly creative ways. Every episode seems to spin off a ton of think pieces (as they should), and I’m especially interested in what black critics/writers are saying about it. Here are a few I’m following (if there are others, let me know!):  Soraya Nadia McDonald at The Undefeated, Angelica Jade Bastién at Vulture, Melanie McFarland at Salon, Micah Peters at The Ringer, Joelle Monique at AV Club.

-This interview with the co-writer of the episode is also worth your time.

Summer Walker responded to backlash after showing up three hours late to her Toronto concert and leaving fans waiting out in the cold Monday night.

Jacob Trembly reveals a correspondence with a famous actor in the trailer for Xavier Dolan‘s latest film, The Death and Life of John F. Donovan, starring Natalie Portman, Sarah Gadon and Kit Harington.

Italia Ricci and Robbie Amell Welcome Baby Boy

-Congrats to Italia Ricci and Robbie Amell, who welcomed their first child — a boy they named Robert Amell V. She’s been hilarious to follow on IG during her pregnancy. Also they got Thai food from Pai delivered to their Toronto hospital room last night, so they clearly have good taste.

James McAvoy says Jennifer Lawrence‘s mother told him the actress was born with teeth.

-I like everything about EW’s cover story on Hustlers.

Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello made fun of their kissing skills in a hilarious new video. I don’t know what’s really going on with those two but I must admit they’re winning me over.

Miley Cyrus and Kaitlynn Carter reportedly “couldn’t keep their hands off each other” at a New York Fashion Week party.

Mandy Moore is releasing new music next week and I hope it’s amazing and acts as a giant middle finger to Ryan Adams.

-Don’t expect Rihanna to perform at the Super Bowl Halftime show anytime soon.

Critics are divided on Taika Waititi’s Holocaust dramedy Jojo Rabbit, which premiered this week at TIFF.

-This article on a publicist whose job is to babysit actors during TIFF is a great read. “You would think that the Mark Wahlbergs and J.Los of the world would be the most demanding but, A-list talent like them know their job and know what they are there for. The C-listers are new and so excited to do whatever you need and they don’t question anything. They’re great. The problem, in general, is the B-listers. They are about to launch, but they also know they aren’t nobodies so they push [boundaries] with you. Some will demand, ‘Well, Julia Roberts got that why don’t I get that?’ And you’re like, ‘Because you’re not Julia Roberts?'” I’m very curious about who the indie-actress-turned-franchise star could be. Jennifer Lawrence? Brie Larson?

Demi Moore has released a memoir, in which she reveals she was raped at 15 and abused Vicodin after a miscarriage during her marriage to Ashton Kutcher.

-So Lili Reinhart and Cole Sprouse are dating again? Or maybe they never actually broke up. Who can keep track?

J.J. Abrams‘ Bad Robot just landed a $250M all-encompassing partnership — including film, TV, video games, digital — with WarnerMedia.

John Greene‘s novel Looking for Alaska gets the TV treatment in this trailer for Hulu’s new adaptation. All the music is from 2005, so it’s basically made for me.
