Harry Styles Goes Shirtless on Rolling Stone

-I checked to see how old Harry Styles is before deciding if I was allowed to drool a little over his Rolling Stone cover — and it turns out his 25. Totally fine. It took me awhile but I get it now.

Katie Holmes has reportedly pulled the plug on her relationship with Jamie Foxx, with the news coming days after he was spotted holding hands with another woman. Again.

-Congrats to Dwayne Johnson and his longtime girlfriend, Lauren Hashian, who got married in Hawaii.

-According to TMZ, Justin Bieber and Hailey Bieber are eyeing a date in September for a big wedding event/anniversary party.

-Harry Potter co-stars Emma Watson and Tom Felton reunited to play guitar in their pjs, launching a million fanfics.

Miley Cyrus and Kaitlynn Carter continue to stoke relationship rumours. The pair were spotted hanging out with Miley’s mom in Los Angeles.

Elton John loaned his private jet to Meghan Markle and Prince Harry so they could enjoy some time at his private estate, and was not amused when the British press complained that the were adding to the carbon footprint by not flying commercial. The Brits are definitely focusing on the wrong royal right now.

-The casting for HBO/BBC’s fantasy drama adaptation of His Dark Materials continues to awe. Andrew Scott (aka Fleabag’s hot priest) just came onboard.

Kate Hudson doing sponcon for Weight Watchers is weird but at least she seems to be having fun with it. Who cooks in a trench coat tho?

-Arrow may be wrapping in January, but Stephen Amell already has his next gig lined up: he’ll headline an 8-episode wrestling drama at Starz. This seems like a good career move. Transition into a bit more prestige-y stuff, while sticking with TV and the type of content his fanbase will follow him for.

-Ugh, these clips from Anderson Cooper‘s interview with Stephen Colbert  on the tragic death of his father and brothers in a plane crash made me tear up.

-The Seth Rogen-produced Good Boys, a movie about the R-rated misadventures of 3 preteen boys, had the year’s largest opening total for an original comedy.

Lana Condor and Noah Centineo tweeting sweet things at each other as they wrap TATBILB filming is killing me.

-This is a good look at how this age of media corporation mega-mergers spells trouble. People don’t seem as concerned about Disney taking over Hollywood as maybe they should be.

-I was looking forward to CW’s debut of I Ship It tonight (about a woman who impulsively quits her job to become an assistant on the show she’s been writing fanfiction about) but the reviews are just ok.

-Man, last night’s episode of Succession should have included a trigger warning for anyone who’s ever worked in digital media. (One of the show’s writers/producers used to work for The Onion, which is probably why they nailed it.) The headlines running in the background for the fake Gawker/Buzzfeed site were perfect.

-Marvel Comics’ attempts to appear apolitical don’t seem to be working anymore.

-I really enjoyed this interview with Michelle Williams on preparing for Fosse/Verdon and taking a break from working.

-The trailer for Kristen Stewart’s “new” movie (which she filmed in 2017) couldn’t have come at a worse time for her.

Reese Witherspoon is taking on Marie Kondo with a new Netflix show about tidying up.

-Today was a *crazy* day for TV trailers and news. Steven Soderbergh‘s next movie about older ladies going on a trip (starring Meryl Streep, Candice Bergen, and Dianne Wiest) has landed an the upcoming streaming service HBO Max. Amazon dropped its trailer (featuring Sterling K. Brown) and release date (Dec 6) for season 3 of Marvelous Mrs Maisel. We got our first trailer for Ryan Murphy‘s Upcoming Netflix show The Politician, starring Gwyneth Paltrow and Ben Platt. But the buzziest drop (and maybe not in a good way) was Apple’s first real trailer for The Morning Show, starring Jennifer Aniston, Reese Witherspoon and Steve Carell. For a company with a reputation for their marketing genius, they are not handling these trailers well. With this cast I was expecting a comedy, not what looks like a dour mix of Studio 60 and The Newsroom. And was Witherspoon really cast as the young ingenue?!

Joss Whedon Put on Blast By Ex-Wife: ‘He Is Not Who He Pretends to Be’

-Ooh boy. Joss Whedon must have had a rough weekend after his wife of 16 years wrote an essay for The Wrap accusing him of multiple on-set affairs. In the scathing article, ex-wife Kai Cole called him a “hypocrite preaching feminist ideals.” Personally, though I still love and adore a lot of his work (Buffy, Angel and Dr Horrible will always hold a special place in my heart), the bloom fell off the Whedon rose when Charisma Carpenter talked about being fired from Angel when he found out she got pregnant. And yes, you can be a cheater and still be a feminist. But I think the reason this story is chafing so many of his female fans today is not because he is accused of infidelity as much as that he’s accused of using white male privilege/power to justify it. According to his wife, he said of his actions: “In many ways I was the HEIGHT of normal, in this culture. We’re taught to be providers and companions and at the same time, to conquer and acquire — specifically sexually — and I was pulling off both!” Like being a serial cheater is somehow fulfilling a masculine destiny? Yuck.

-The day the essay dropped, the biggest Whedon fansite shut down after 15 years.

Sarah Jessica Parker‘s breathless reaction to the eclipse deserves an Emmy.

-So it turns out Steven Soderbergh‘s Logan Lucky didn’t change the film business overnight. His new movie, which sidestepped the traditional studio marketing machine, opened at a disappointing $8.1 million.

-Bless the lead signer of The Architects, who stopped his show when he saw a woman being groped.

-Out of all the shows I expected Netflix to renew, the critically panned Friends from College wasn’t one of them.  I tried watching it because the cast is lit but it’s a pretty grim slog.

George and Amal Clooney had a date night and I really dig her dress while simultaneously recognizing it would make me look like a moldy potato.

Jay-Z is trying to make us believe that infamous elevator fight marked his “one disagreement ever” with Solange. That’s cute.

-Man, last night’s Game of Thrones was a bit of a mess. Why aren’t they killing major characters off? What are they doing to the Stark sisters?!

-This is an interesting piece about how celebrities should react in the aftermath of Neo-Nazi protests. I have to say, I’ve lost some respect for some of the celebs I follow who are usually very vocal yet have remained silent on this.

Matt Damon is bloody and Julianne Moore is crushing pills in the new trailer for George Clooney’s Suburbicon.

Kristen Stewart Slays on Harper’s Bazaar UK

-The Sept covers continue to trickle in. The latest is Kristen Stewart on Harper’s Bazaar UK, which I love.  Chanel did right by her with this one.

-Wait, Jenny Slate is talking about her relationship with ex Chris Evans again? In the middle of a quote about how she’s trying not to overshare? I’m confused, guys.

George and Amal Clooney have partnered with UNICEF to open schools for Syrian refugees because they’re good people.

-Will Smith says he adjusted his parenting style after Willow Smith shaved her head in protest because she didn’t want to continue her tour.

-Ruh roh. Summer Phoenix has filed for divorce from Casey Affleck.

Ryan Adams threw shade at The Strokes during a Twitter rant as if that would somehow make them both relevant again.

-Karma strike: R. Kelly has had to cancel his tour dates amidst those sex cult reports.

-TIFF announced a bunch of new films today, including James Franco‘s The Disaster Artist, Super Size Me 2, and the Grace Jones doc.

-Speaking of James Franco, he opened up about his battles with depression in a new interview in Out.

-Say what you will about Steven Soderbergh, but he never gives a bad soundbite when asked about the state of Hollywood.

Mel Gibson is suing the producers of his dictionary movie.

-I feel like I’m doing a lot of ‘read between the lines’ work with Elizabeth Olsen’s comments about working with Jeremy Renner. I mean, she’s worked on multiple films with him now so she must like him. But there’s just something there…

-There doesn’t seem to be much positive buzz surrounding Idris Elba and Matthew McConaughey‘s The Dark Tower, and it’s not being helped by a new Variety report that suggests the production was plagued with problems because there were too many cooks the kitchen.

-I feel like Celine Dion is slowly, carefully introducing us to her new boyfriend and I’m here for it.

-I’m surprised that Amazon’s alt-history response to HBO’s Confederate is being met with such widespread love. Yes, a show about slaves being compensated sounds like a much, much better premise than HBO’s slavery fan fiction pitch, but it’s something that was conceived by a white guy (in this case, Amazon’s Roy Price) and given to two black executive producers. Can’t someone just adapt Alyssa Coles‘ An Extraordinary Union instead?

-This is a great, great feature on Lexi Alexander, director, Twitter crusader and all-around badass.

-I agree with THR’s take on how being a network president is now the worst job in TV. Think of the fall season. It’s already August and not one upcoming show seems to be creating buzz yet. Not. One.

-Speaking of networks, CBS sources say they offered Daniel Dae Kim a raise that would have put him within 2% of Hawaii Five-O’s leads. Shouldn’t have been that hard to offer him the final 2% then, no?

-Speaking of CBS, Erinn Hayes’ character will be killed off Kevin Can Wait to make room for Leah Remini. I don’t watch that show, but that seems extreme for a sitcom.

-Vulture has the trailer for Call Me By Your Name, which everyone fell in love with at Sundance. I’m not sure if this trailer really sold me, but Armie Hammer’s voice does things to me…

Noomi Rapace plays not one, but seven people in the new trailer for Netflix’s What Happened to Monday.

-Watch Matt Damon, Julianne Moore, and Oscar Isaac tear up the neighborhood in this new trailer for Suburbicon.

-I didn’t really have much interest in David Fincher’s Mindhunter, the new Netflix series about getting into the heads of serial killers, but that was before I knew it lured Fringe’s Anna Torv back to TV. Dammit.
