-I’m still watching The Morning Show — not because it’s good, but because it’s a train wreck that I can’t look away from. This week’s development makes little sense, so for this show it makes perfect sense. I’m amazed they weren’t publicizing this plot development in the trailers. (Spoilers for the latest episode, obviously).

-With her last couple of posts, Britney Spears is really pushing Instagram’s rules about boobs.

-The judge in Kelly Clarkson‘s divorce has ruled that the Montana Ranch is hers, not her ex’s.

–Bernie Sanders, Adam Schiff, and 118 members of Congress have signed a letter backing IATSE’s demands for meal and bathroom breaks, adequate sleep, and living wages for crew on film and TV sets. The vote on strike authorization began today.

-There’s going to be a movie adaptation of Red, White & Royal Blue? Oh yes please! Bring on all the romance adaptations.

-Wow, I adore Nina Dobrev‘s 1920s Spanish style home.

-I saw Melissa McCarthy‘s The Starling at TIFF and did not like it (despite good performances from her and Chris O’Dowd). It’s now on Netflix.

-In her THR cover story, Shonda Rhimes talks about leaving ABC (she says her breaking point came when she tried to get an extra all-inclusive pass to Disneyland for a trip she took with her kids and sister and a high-ranking exec asked her “Don’t you have enough?”), talks about setting expectations with Netflix (“The first thing I said was, ‘You’re not going to get another Grey’s Anatomy — not Grey’s Anatomy in a cornfield, Grey’s Anatomy on a baseball field or Grey’s Anatomy at an airport, that’s just not happening’ “), and the culture shock of being at the streaming service (“The reason I came to Netflix is because I wanted to be able to make television without anybody bothering me. And as long as I get to keep making television without anybody bothering me, I’m happy”).

–Robert Downey Jr., Mark Ruffalo and James Gunn took to social media to defend Chris Pratt. So they suddenly showed up when a meaningless throwaway Twitter poll voted him the worst Chris, but stayed silent when Brie Larson was facing hate and brutal boycott campaign from fanboys for being Captain Marvel and advocating for diversity? Screw them.

-Welp, Quibi is dead. Jeffrey Katzenberg is calling investors to tell them he’s shutting the company down, sources tell the Wall Street Journal. They’ll likely blame it on the pandemic and not the atrocious rollout or the fact that we are at the saturation point with streaming services.

–Jennifer Lawrence says her biggest regret about getting married last year is she didn’t have a big bachelorette party.

–Dolly Parton sang a few lines of “Bury Me Beneath The Willow” on the Late Show last night and it made Stephen Colbert cry. I loved her reaction: “I better hush before you cry yourself to death and we can’t finish the show.”

-I loved this chat between Jamie Lee Curtis and Neve Campbell about their reigns as scream queens.

-Legally Blonde 3’s new release date has been confirmed. I’m skeptical we’ll be back in theatres by then, but you do you, Hollywood.

-The reviews for The Witches are in, and it sounds very, very bad. Too bad; I was ready to watch Anne Hathaway ham it up.

-Another movie that isn’t faring well with critics is Netflix’s Rebecca remake mostly because the film portrays the central relationship as straightforwardly romantic, rather than tragic or toxic. The fact that this is how they depict the last scene makes it clear they had no idea what the book was actually about.

-Speaking of reviews, critics seem mixed on Borat 2. But the only thing everyone seems to agree on is the Rudy Giuliani segment is unbelievably uncomfortable. Apparently he follows Borat’s “daughter” into a hotel room and it’s … not good. The screengrab that’s floating around Twitter looks bad enough.

–Jared Leto will play the Joker in Zack Snyder’s Justice League, just in case you needed more convincing to skip it.

–Scott Speedman has joined the cast of You for season 3. I’m really happy for him, but my heart won’t be able to take it if he turns into a murder buddy for Joe.

–Jann Arden‘s sitcom is going to stream in the US on Hulu. Between this and her singing the Dawson’s Creek theme song when it hits Netflix, is this the year of Jann in America? Let’s hope! (She did a Cameo for my friend’s birthday this week and it was the best one I’ve ever seen.)

–Ariana Grande and Adele stans are not happy because they don’t understand how Twitter works.

-Normal People star Daisy Edgar Jones has been cast as Kyra, the lead in the film adaptation of Where the Crawdads Sing. I still haven’t finished that book — not because it’s bad but just because it was too heavy for my brain in 2020.

-Netflix will campaign Chadwick Boseman and Viola Davis in the lead actor and actress categories for their Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom performances. They’ll also submit Boseman for supporting actor in Da 5 Bloods.

-The first trailer for Disney’s Raya and the Last Dragon is gorgeous.

THR Calls Wonder Woman a “Gamble,” Twitter Claps Back

-This take is TRASH: the Hollywood Reporter’s cover story says Warner Bros is “gambling $150M” on Wonder Woman’s female director because her only prior big screen credit is the $8M Oscar-nominated, critically acclaimed Monster. Seriously? As Twitter was quick to point out, Hollywood handed the keys to the Jurassic franchise over to Colin Trevorow, who had only done the $750K Safety Not Guaranteed, which wasn’t nominated for shit and no one saw it. Or what about Josh Trank, who jumped from teeny tiny indie Chronicle to Fantastic Four? Same with Jordan Vogt-Roberts, Gareth Edwards, Jon Watts, Alan Taylor, David Yates, James Gunn, etc. Hollywood throws money at white men who barely have a YouTube channel all the time. But this is a gamble that requires hand-wringing? Nah, son.

-Meanwhile, This Wonder Woman featurette is 13 minutes of pure joy.

-Felicity reunion alert! Keri Russell and Scott Speedman appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live together and it made my heart grow three sizes. The part where he talks about how they dated and he was “such a disaster of a boyfriend”? Kill me.

-Oh god, did Robin Wright take Sean Penn back? Why????

– Jennifer Garner is on the cover of People and it confused everyone because it’s kind of a nothing article. It turns out she had no involvement in the story at all. She took to Facebook to say “This isn’t a tragedy by any measure, but it does affect me and my family and so, before my mom’s garden club lights up her phone, I wanted to set the record straight: I did not pose for this cover. I did not participate in or authorize this article. While we are here, for what it’s worth: I have three wonderful kids and my family is complete.” A celebrity calling out People like this? Yikes.

–Arcade Fire is going full glam-era Bowie with their new track, which is impossible to link to because it keeps getting pulled from YouTube.

-NBC changed its mind and won’t move This Is Us to Thursday nights after all. Why mess with the only genuine hit of the year?

–Kathy Griffin apologized for her Trump decapitation photo, saying “I am sorry. I went too far. I was wrong.” CNN has fired her anyway.

–Drake scored a huge victory in his sampling lawsuit with a fair use argument about “real music.”

-Less of a victory: JLo just dismissed him as a booty call.

-67 million of Katy Perry‘s followers may be fake.

-Vulture is asking the right questions in this piece wondering how the hell Johnny Depp keeps getting cast in movies.

–Ed Westwick has no interest in a Gossip Girl revival. “It’s played out, man. It’s done.”

-This past weekend was the worst Memorial Day weekend at the box office since 1999.

-Wow, this seems like a big career misstep for Hailee Steinfeld.

-The CW was the only network this season to boast a majority of female showrunners at 67%, followed by ABC (33%), Fox & NBC (20%), CBS (11%).
